What’s the maximum sentence for a drug consumption offence in India? I mean, I don’t think they’ll be going to jail. Let’s say, DP has confessed to taking drugs in 2017, will she be let go off with a fine or is there a jail time for such a minor offence?

In US, you have to be caught with a stash of certain amount to be arrested for drug use.

In US, you have to be caught with a stash of certain amount to be arrested for drug use.

Firstly you have to be caught with narcotics , else no case . Secondly if it is below 25gm it’s a bailable offense .. uptil 45 gm the max you will get is 1 year . Drug users seldom get jail sentences ... max are sent for rehab .

If it’s proved that you are a drug peddler and have sold drugs for commercial purposes than it’s serious .. could be 7 to 20 yrs.
