I’ll just tell the courts about the ingredients in McChickens and how they’re bad for you and also highlight questionable clothing brands. Hopefully it’ll get them off of the hook?

Yes, if 2 acts committed independently are exactly the same, and one is OK and the other is NOT (just coz the law says so) yes, highlight the comparison and QUESTION. Why?

In this case - drinking bhang and weed. Which is the SAME CONTENT. (cannibis). Why one is ok and the other isn't.

Bhang is made from cannabis flowers and leaves, milk, water, spices, and sometimes yoghurt. It is available in government sanctioned stores of religious villages, and the ingredients are sold in street stalls. Bhang goli, which are balls of bhang paste already prepared with the other ingredients, are common.

  • shortness of breath (even with mild exertion);
  • swelling or rapid weight gain;
  • the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild;
  • signs of stomach bleeding--bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
  • liver problems--nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, flu-like symptoms, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
  • kidney problems--little or no urinating, painful or difficult urination, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath;
  • low red blood cells (anemia)--pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath, rapid heart rate, trouble concentrating; or
  • severe skin reaction--fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.

Reported side effects

More common

  • Stomach pain
  • acid or sour stomach
  • Burping
  • Bloat
  • cloudy urine
  • decrease in amount of urine
  • decrease in urine output or decrease in urine-concentrating ability
  • diarrhea
  • difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  • excess air or gas in stomach or intestines
  • full feeling
  • Heartburn
  • indigestion
  • itching skin
  • pain or discomfort in chest, upper stomach, or throat
  • pale skin
  • passing gas
  • nausea
  • noisy, rattling breathing
  • rash with flat lesions or small raised lesions on the skin
  • shortness of breath
  • swelling of face, fingers, hands, feet, lower legs, or ankles
  • troubled breathing at rest
  • troubled breathing with exertion
  • unusual bleeding or bruising
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
  • vomiting
  • weight gain

I have excluded the less common side effects for space. There approximately 3 times as many as the more common list. I also excluded signs of ibuprofen overdose.

Strong painkillers are even bad. I was given once. I could not get out of bed for two weeks. My concentration and focus stopped functioning for two weeks. Later the doctor told me it was made from medical opium. Since then I refuse to touch anything which causes substance abuse.

What is the purpose of a law that is flaunted openly? It’s meaningless. What is going to happen? Are they going to arrest everyone who drinks alcohol in Gujarat? They’d have to build scores of new prisons. Should they just leave it alone and let the criminals make money and people disregard the rule of law? It would be better to legalize it, regulate it, and tax it. Stop treating addicts/abusers like criminals and treat them for their addictions. Alcohol is illegal in Gujarat but people are still drinking and there are still alcoholics in Gujarat (and yes I am probably related to some ).

I mentioned alcohol is illegal in India, but I have seen many gujaratis openly drinking and dancing thanks to my old profession.

Because we are discussing legality of drugs...

Why’s bhang (cannabis) legal when marijuana (cannabis) is illegal?

The 1961 international treaty Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs

clubbed cannabis with hard drugs. During the negotiations, the Indian delegation opposed its intolerance to the social and religious customs of India. As a compromise, the Indian Government promised to limit the export of Indian hemp, and the final draft of the treaty defined cannabis as

"Cannabis" means the flowering or fruiting tops of the cannabis plant (excluding the seeds and leaves when not accompanied by the tops) from which the resin has not been extracted, by whatever name they may be designated.
— Commentary on the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961: Paragraph I, subparagrah (b)

Bhang was thus left out from the definition of "cannabis". This allowed India to carry on the tradition of large-scale consumption of bhang during Holi. The treaty also gave India 25 years to clamp down on recreational drugs. Towards the end of this exemption period, the Indian government passed the Narcotic Drugs and Psychtotropic Substances Act

in 1985.

The NDPS maintained the same definition of "cannabis", excluding bhang from its purview:

"cannabis (hemp)" means:
(a) charas, that is, the separated resin, in whatever form, whether crude or purified, obtained from the cannabis plant and also includes concentrated preparation and resin known as hashish oil or liquid hashish;
(b) ganja, that is, the flowering or fruiting tops of the cannabis plant (excluding the seeds and leaves when not accompanied by the tops), by whatever name they may be known or designated; and
(c) any mixture, with or without any neutral material, of any of the above forms of cannabis or any drink prepared therefrom
— NDPS Act, 1985: I.2.iii

NDPS banned the production and sale of cannabis resin and flowers, but permitted the use of the leaves and seeds, allowing the states to regulate the latter.

Alcohol is also illegal in Bihar since 2015 - amid a back and forth between the gov't and the courts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_prohibition_in_India

Within a year of prohibition, the number of murders and gang robberies decreased by 20%.[22] The number of riots fell by 13% and traffic accidents were reduced by 10%.[22] For the economy, spending per household rose: increase in sales of milk by 10%, cheese by 200%, two-wheeled vehicles by 30%, and electrical appliances by 50%.[22] In villages, brick houses are gradually taking the place of more rudimentary cottages since state Prohibition came into effect.[22] At the same time, substance abuse has increased significantly due to liquor being hard to access

I guess drug users/addicts are less violent and more socially productive than drinkers/alcoholics. 😲

But they are more moody and prone depression than alcoholics. They have worse withdrawal symptoms and death rates are really high among them due to drug overdose.

It’s more like end careers of pepeople we don’t like otherwise college students doing drugs is bigger problem according to me than these rich people spending money on drugs

When I was a kid students used to get high on eating iodex. Our teachers told us this when we were 7 years old. They made us anti drugs from childhood and I think it worked.

You go to places like Kasol and Manikaran in India, and you would find them growing inside resorts !!

You will find people smoking them standing under a very govt board which prohibits their usage. But thats just that. If they actually act on it, there will be a major hit on tourism there. Half of them people go there for just that!!

I think we need to separate the issue of Rhea/SSR , with all these drug angles. I have my misgivings and reasons about why I consider rhea a wrongdoer . Won't elaborate on that here.

But I don't see how someone occasionally consuming a joint becomes an addict. That's silly.You go to any engineering college in india and find a single room where there's no weed. You won't . And many of them are bright students , maybe spoiled, foolish, but not addicts !

I am not saying using drugs is cool.No, it's not. But shaming occasional users for it, is not the way to do it.

Catch the people on the top rung. The big fishes, if you want to clean the country of this menace.And be fair , don't single out only bollywood.

True.

Catch hold of people who smuggle it into the territory of this country.
