Later in the movie it is revealed that these widow homes were like brothels. Kalyani with whom John's character is in love with is also involved in these venture, without the will of her own, offcourse. And the one who is taking the pleasure is his own father.🤢

In end when she comes to know that's it's his father she'd been sleeping with she commits suicide. She had started to feel for him too.

But in this movie they showed various other attrocies that bengali widows

would go through.
