Hi everyone! I'm up with the second discussion of the forum! I hope everyone enjoyed the first one and they will have a good time with this one too!

Without futher adieu, the topic we are discussing this time is

Domestic Violence and Its representation in Pakistani Dramas

As we all know there are lot of dramas which represent domestic violence. While some drama try to fight the issue others portray it simply as a part of scene. Thapads are hugely common and whether the thapad is given to heroines, the heroes or the villains.

What are you thoughts about the same? Is Domestic Violence justified? What about its representation in dramas and shows?

Domestic violence is a big problem in our society. Its victims include women and children mostly. As a woman I feel depressed watching it on screen. I have some personal memories about it too.

In dramas I feel they try to justify it, 😡 by showing it causually, or passing it as a result of temperory anger..and ending it with an apology, or even without it. 🤔

I didn't watch much dramas which dealed with it. I think the first Pakistani drama I watched in which a husband slapped his wife was Dillagi. And I liked it how they didn't let it pass without a lesson. But lately slaps became a norm in dramas. They come and go , and everybody seem fine with it. 😲

I can still watch a slap scene, but can't watch more ..like hitting by a belt, or sexual assault..Such things are unbearable .. I can't imagine the torture women go through when they have to deal with it in real life.😭

Kankar is the best drama I have seen that focused on domestic violence.

Not only it shows how domestic violence affects the couple, but also how kids and future generation is affected by it.

I also hate when parents slap their daughters for small things rather than explaining them. It makes women more accepting of domestic violence.

Domestic violence is a disturbing issue. Unfortunately it is present in our culture and immensely shown in our drama. In most of dramas slaps are not needed but still they are showing it like in MTA Ulfat slapped shahaan, in GPM sami broke bottle on Rizz's head and will slap her in coming episodes. There are many dramas in which slaps are common thing.

I just saw single promo of drama Tum ho wajah and it was too disturbing. A one minute promo had 4 slapping scenes in it.

Dramas should stop promoting domestic violence especially between husband wifes. They are not only disturbing to watch but also giving wrong message and promoting physical violence.

Domestic Violence is very common in our society and when shows or movies portray them as a common act it kinda encourages more I feel. The movies are getting more responsible and are very careful with it. Nowadays people stand against a slap scene also. Like I remember there were a lot of controversies with a Bollywood movie because of a slap scene. But its still common with dramas.

Unless the drama is fighting against it, I don't think they should portray it. Especially so carelessly where the heroine gets slapped in every other episode.

@bold, woah dramas show belt scene also. I haven't seen one in dramas. Such scenes are so disturbing. If it's hard for us to watch, God knows what happens to those who face it.

I pray that no woman has to go through such pain but it still is the bitter truth of the society. It exists everywhere even in west, maybe lesser cases but it prevails. Now toh even men get targeted. It's just sick.

Thank you for mentioning the Ulfat and Shaan one! I didn't like it at all when she slapped him. I haven't followed the drama and don't know why she slapped him but I don't feel comfortable even when women slap men. It shouldn't common on both sides. Both men and women should stop slapping each other. 😡😤 there are thousand more ways to show your anger.

I hated Sameer when he had slapped Gohar. But she gave him a good reply and if I'm not wrong he apologised too? Still it's not justified.

I haven't watched Kankar but had heard about it. Even the show mera naseeb did show domestic violence is a bad light. Iran's character abuses his wife played by Sanam but she stands against him. She refuses to be hit by him or ill treated by him. But she does not leave him. She stays with him and puts up with everything but domestic violence. I loved Sanam's character there. I don't agree with her reasoning with his violence and staying back with him but her character was very head strong and fierce.

@red. I think you are hinting to Kabir Singh movie.😊I hope in Pakistani dramas too, ppl take a stand and address such issues, by rejecting them. Families watch dramas , children do , and violence becomes a norm.

Totally agree.

They don't show the act. But show the results, the wife's body covered by injuries, which happen only if she was beaten by a stick or a belt. Shayyad was a Pakistani drama , which had Noman Ijaz playing an abusive husband, who used to beat his wife, untill one fine day she escaped and asked for divorce. I think Saaya E Deewar Bhi Nahin showed the same problem.. with Emmad Irfani and Naveen Waqar, and Kaisa Hai Naseeban with Muneeb Butt and Ramsha Khan .I didn't watch most of those dramas, because I have a weak heart. I can't bear verbal abuse. I think these things are no less harmfull than domestic violence.

I pray that no woman has to go through such pain but it still is the bitter truth of the society. It exists everywhere even in west, maybe lesser cases but it prevails. Now toh even men get targeted. It's just sick.

May Allah save women everywhere from this pain. 😒

Exactly a single word of sorry can't justify physical violence.
