Why is Anupama leveraging her position as a film critic ( I think this was tweeted thru FC?), and giving her opinion on a trailer? Isn’t she a film critic?

i think the debate on nepotism absolutely needs to happen, but often it’s the people surrounding it like Anu, Barkha who make the matters worse. It’s for their professional gain to latch on to sensational/ hot topics then cry foul when they get trolled.

it would have been better for her to reserve her opinions as a critic till the movie was released, or give her opinions on all trailers ( to the extent possible).

The inherent flaw in this whole boycott campaign is that everyone keeps saying "boycott nepotism products"- are you boycotting Aamir, Hrithik, Rani, Kajol, Farhan, Salman, etc because they also all came into movies initially with their connections? Successful actors like Ranbir, Kareena, etc are being trolled left and right so of course the industry will become defensive.

I would hope that for most sensible people the issue is that they feel certain actors are not talented so then that needs to be the words they use....because there are also many actors with no film background that are not talented. More than that, when people ask to boycott an entire film, they ARE automatically dissing the efforts of 100s of people that brought that film to life. If they don't want to watch a film because they think the lead actor is not talented, that's completely fine and their choice but then they need to focus on that. Thankfully there are people that are voicing issues in the right way (at least the YT comments are decent) but at least on Twitter their words are being lost in the sea of these boycott campaigns.

Re Bulbul: MANY industry people praised the film, I urge you to go check out all of Anushka's RTs and likes on twitter.

People have boycotted Bhai for years

Some might be more talented than others. The question is would they be talented enough to shine in an audition full of 100s. That too out a population of 1.3 billion Indians. I followed Anu to Twitter. I was looking for tweets praising Tripti specifically. No one besides Anurag Kashyap did. Let’s make another comparison. How many insiders came out to ask CBI Inquiry for Sushant or justice for Sushant. Not even Anumpama did that. But she came to shove the film with the wooden actress down our throat.

Btw. Komal Natha is as bad as her and Rajive if not worse. He did an entire video reiterating the depression theory for the Bollywood PR machinery. Even had the audacity to say Rhea was a great girlfriend. Does he know this much about every actor’s personal life?

As they are talented and have made it on merit. I am not watching the movie. I don't care if it doesn't matter much as a Netflix release. I will give this as much support as Bollywood insiders gave Bulbul. I did not see one insider tweet about Tripti's brilliant performance or the director's great work. It had amazing writing that one could sit and analyze it like a book. Did any insider praise it? I am sure we will see praises from what seems like an another very wooden performance from Jhanvi in the trailer. Things aren't changing Anupama. You blamed the audience for not supporting outsiders. I posted so much about Bulbul and Tripti, I must have exhausted the topic here. There were so many people talking about it on twitter. But not a single insider had the heart to praise the movie.

Nope not watching it. Next time talent like Sharan and Nikhil will know better than to work with a nepo product and nepo producer.

Short and precise ! I wasn't gonna comment cuz I stayed away from all GS topics. The actress has ZERO talent to be in the Showbiz and now toh I have taken a firm decision on boycotting Dharma and Nepo products..... But I haven't thought of this Bulbul angle. 👏

I really like Anupama Chopra's interviews, but this time she should understand that this is not the right criticism. With each passing year, the mediocrity of Nepo Products are getting more and more evident against fresh outsider talent. Anupama can cry river on this topic, but guess audience has made up their mind now. 🤔

When fhey say utter waste of time, don't watch the film, what happens to that film's 100 member crew?

Why does she need to review a trailer ? Just look at it and wait for the film. Had she said she liked the film it would’ve been a different outcome and reaction

Is as though now people can't give negetive opinions when the main lead was expressionless...Let people decide if they like or not like she decide giving reviews according to her likes same goes to all...

LOL, why is she so offended at being called a "Dharma stooge" anyways? She is a Dharma and YRF loyalist. It has been obvious for years and I think she herself confessed it at some point.

She is trying to suck upto KJO for MAMI. Probably hoping that he comes back onboard for next year and everyone's forgotten the issues.

I wonder if she and her critics community thought about all this when they complain about and urge audience to not watch Rohit Shetty's films, Salman's films, or when they went all out against Kabir Singh last year? These are big films with well known people so their reviews don't matter as much, but what about the smaller films dependent on critic reviews? What happens to the 100's of crew members and outsider directors, actors working on those films then? Why do all the excuses only come up when it's about star kids anyways?

Some people are going overboard for sure but doesn't mean the conversation needs to stop.

BTW I saw the trailer. Janhvi was fairly bad in it. Unfortunately, there is no way to mask that, and I actually appreciate that Jahnvi is so self-aware about her privilege, even if it's PR taught, so let's not try to derail and get her unnecessary sympathy. I don't think she actually wants that.

I didn't read the whole thing but did she really call Sharan Sharma an outsider? Sharan Sharma is Sonam's relative. If I'm not wrong he's someone's maasi's son; most probably Arjun's.
