Yes.. Vidya has time and again talked about how she had been body shamed.. but she never blamed the industry for it.. She bmamed the media and people's obsession with zero size for it.. her stand on industry has been the same since her debut.. I remember saying this a couple of years ago as well

Some people view their struggles as part of the journey and don't think it's unfair that they have to strive harder than others.. that's just a difference of perception

Agree, she has been saying this for long, since her post-Parineeta interview with Simi in fact. She said despite tough auditions she only feels gratitude and joy because the industry has always accepted her with open arms and her talent got recognition. Isnt it true though? She really changed the game- and forced the industry to adapt to her strengths rather than change for them.

I think this comes from her being a spiritual person- maybe that gives her a different perspective. And every person's journey is different- and this has been hers, she should express what she feels

Someone like her who is an established outsider is what other outsiders look up to. What she says comes across as someone saying about a sexist person that "Well he's not bad to me so he's nice", completely ignoring that others could have been treated badly by the sexist person. She keeps saying the industry is fair to divert from the ones who spoke up about the malpractices happening in the industry.

Also, just because her talent got recognized doesn't mean all talented outsiders get that lucky.

She has but she can only speak about HER journey- which is something she is always careful to acknowledge. It's possible that she can express her opinion honestly, without negating someone else's. I dont see the outrage

But people who are talking about malpractices are speaking from their own experience and Vidya is speaking from hers.. I don't think she is trying to divert anything.. she is asked her opinion and she gives response based on how she perceives it.. there is not really any right or wrong in this

Didn't she speak about experiencing casting couch? How are things like this fair?

She has.. but she has also spoken multiple times about how she is grateful to the industry for welcoming her.. she views experiences like casting couch and dropping from movies as part of struggle that everyone has to go through to achieve something.. that's her way of looking at things.. One cannot seem her wrong to perceive her journey as per her own way

She faced this in the south. When she came to Bollywood she said she encountered very professional and supportive people like Pradip Sarkar who nurtured her talent and fought to cast her in Parineeta. So this wasnt her experience in Bollywood. Source- her iv with Anupam Kher on his show

This doesnt negate what others may have experienced but why should she be forced to give an inauthentic experience, that she never felt in Bollywood? She has mentioned that she can only speak for herself- hence the words 'I believe' and 'in my experience'

No one's forcing her, but it's disappointing to see. An industry that puts outsiders through casting couch shouldn't be called fair. Casting couch doesn't only exist in south industry but in bollywood too, in fact it is a huge thing in bollywood

Also point to be noted, this was not a statement by her but a reply to a question by the reporter who asked what would she tell outsiders who are dismayed by whatever is happing right now in Bollywood. She chose the positive route to tell outsiders that there is also a part of Bollywood that has accepted people like her, SRK, PC, RKR, etc. I completely feel it's fair on her part to sound encouraging to outsiders who might get even more bogged down by what they are reading and hearing online about the industry and may just quit their dreams.

Funnily enough, this is just an excerpt of a pretty long interview with Khaleej Times where it is already mentioned that she is married to a producer, where Vidya herself talks about biases in the industry and the critics, her own struggle and every single other thing being discussed in this topic. And amidst all of the shit that's going on, the last thing one would need is a hint of positivity for struggling outsiders to survive and I'm glad she is doing her bit in helping spread the same since everyone else has pretty much talked about the murky side of bollywood.
