This is the first time I am finding from this JNJ article that FDA is considering even 50% efficacy as a success. Shows how desperately people are clutching at straws.

I am more keen on the AZ-Oxford vaccine because they have tied up with Serum Institute in India for production so Indians will have an early shot at the vaccine (they are allotting a substantial portion of their production to India). Most other vaccines that may succeed will be cornered by Trump (in his usual threatening manner) for Americans.

I had never read about Betadine gargle for Covid until today. Found this article from NY times which answers to some extent why it's not as popular.

Looks like Americans fear ingesting the Betadine skin disinfectant by mistake and that is why it is not being promoted as such. Actually in Japan (the article suggests) it is a standard practice to gargle with Betadine. In India Betadine is specifically mentioned as a gargling solution. But I would say regular gargling with Betadine is a better bet than just steam inhalation (as many Whatsapp groups keep circulating) as a preventive.
