Calling someone ra*di is not swearing, it's abuse and cyber bullying/harassment. And it's against the rules of the social media platforms she is in be it instagram or twitter and there are cyber bullying laws in India as well. Just because people are rarely held accountable doesn't mean it's okay. It should be the responsibility of the SM sites to make their platform a safe space for dialogue and not cyber bullying. Do we talk like this here in this forum? No right? Despite having thousand differences all discussions are kept civil.
So taking legal action against abuse is not curbing 'freedom of speech'. Trolling and abuse is different. People posting 🐍 on her comments is trolling, calling her 'maa ki c*t r*ndi benc*d' is not trolling. It's straight up abuse. And not just Shaheen, anyone would do the same if they would face such comments under their tag every single day-

@Bold. Twitter rules are not laws. Trolling and abuse do come under freedom of expression. Threats, however, do not. Plus, a good lawyer can stretch it and claim calling her a pro* is not merely an insult but a defamatory accusation.
But Twitter can only kick someone out of their platform. Trolling and abuse in a court of law still counts as freedom of expression. No one has to like it, but the law is what it is.
Nor should it change, IMO. What happens if there's someone like Epstein whom politicians support? The same trolling and abuse would put public pressure on the government to act.
So yeah, maintaining that freedom of expression is crucial even if there are cases like Alia's. Without FOE, there will be no democracy.
