Part 9

Year 1999

“Don’t give me lecture Mukesh uncle. I need your help not your lessons on right and wrong. I know you work for the underworld and you must have knowledge about this Pakiya bhai.” Neil said to Mukesh who lived in same chawl in his neighbourhood. “Neil, I work in underworld that’s why I am warning you. You are too young to indulge in all this. You can go to police.” Mukesh suggested.“Police? Really? That police who failed to punish the culprits in my mom’s accident case. That police who sold the evidence baba has recorded, to the textile mill owner, who failed to give us security. There is no such thing like police. They are just pimps of law working for powerful people. I don’t trust them. I’ll avenge my baba and sister myself. If you can help me in any way than tell me or else don’t waste my time. I’ll figure out something on my own.” Neil replied and was about to leave when Mukesh held his hand.

“Fine! What kind of help you want from me?” asked Mukesh making up his mind to help the boy. “I want to know this Pakiya’s whereabouts. Where can I get him alone?And also if you can arrange a gun for me….I don’t have any money now but I’ll…”Neil said but Mukesh interrupted him. “Its ok, no need to give me money. Your baba was my like my elder brother. I’ll arrange a gun for you and I’ll also accompany you.” Mukesh said. “No, I’ll go there alone. This is my revenge.”Neil replied.

At night Mukesh came to Neil and handed over him a packet. Neil opened it and found a desi katta (pistol made in local market). “I have found out that Pakiya goes to this particular bar ‘Rock and roll’ every night. There the main dancer is his girlfriend. So no matter wherever he is, he goes there every night. He is usually alone there and drinks till he can no longer walk straight. It’s a perfect time to kill him.” Mukesh told Neil. “I’ll advice you to think once again. Once you step in this crime world there is no way out.” Mukesh made last attempt to convince Neil. “I want justice for my baba and di. If for that I’ll have to become a criminal than I am willing to do it.” Neil replied confidently.

Neil went to the ‘rock n roll’ bar. He hid himself in the parking area. He saw Pakiya entered the bar around 11.00pm. Neil decided to wait till he comes out.Pakiya came out around 3.00am. As Mukesh has informed him, he was heavily drunk and couldn’t even walk properly. Neil suddenly jumped in front of him and pointed his gun at him. Neil’s heart was racing in jet speed. He had thought that it would be easy to shoot him but when he pointed his gun at Pakiya, he hesitated for few seconds and his hands started shaking. Pakiya had taken advantage of it and taken out his gun also.

As the light was dim, Pakiya narrowed his eyes to see clearly who was standing before him but he couldn’t recognize Neil. “Who are you?” he asked. “Forgot me so easily? Main wahi bachha hoon jise tune kal zinda chhod diya tha.” Neil replied as he made his hold tight on his gun. “Oh! toh tu us satyawadi ki aulaad hai.Maan na padega dum toh hai tujh mein yaha taka aa gaya wo bhi ye desi katta leke.....waise dum to teri behen mein bhi tha….bahut chhatpata rahi jab apun uske sath…”Pakiya laughed evily. “Pakiyaaa!!!” Neil shouted in anger as pakiya mentioned his sister. He pressed the trigger of the gun but it didn’t fire.Neil again pressed the trigger but it still didn’t fire. He tried few more times but still couldn’t fire with it. Pakiya laughed at Neil and pulled him towards with jerk twisting his hand backward. Gun fell down from Neil’s hands and he screamed in pain as Pakiya twisted his hand more.

“Bacche pehle gun chalana toh seekh leta. Trigger press karne se pehle usko unlock karna hota hai. Ab tu bhi apne baap aur behen ke pas upar ja.” Pakiya said and pointed his gun at Neil’s forehead. Neil desperately tried to free himself and in the process kicked Pakiya in middle of his legs. Pakiya shouted because of immense pain and fell down on the ground. Pakiya’s gun fell on the ground. Neil noticed Pakiya had a knife in his back pocket. He bent down and pulled his knife. He turned Pakiya towards him and pierced his heart with the knife. “Kaun kehta hai murder sirf gun se ho sakta hai?” Neil asked and stabbed him few more times. Pakiya screamed in agony. “Scream, scream just like my sister was screaming you son of a b***h.” Neil said in anger and kept stabbing Pakiya multiple times till his hands gave away.

After sometime when his anger died down he sat there on the road by Pakiya’s dead body as he remembered his baba and sister. He could hear police siren but he made no attempt to run. He didn’t have any place to go. Police came and saw Pakiya’s body was brutally stabbed multiple times and Neil was sitting there with the knife in his hands and blood on his clothes. They arrested him and presented him in the court. Since he was a minor, judge sent him to juvenile prison.

Neil entered there and looked around. He waited till warden checked his case file. “Abhi theek tarah se bada hua bhi nahi aur ek aadmi ka berehmi se khoon kar diya isne. Ye aajkal ke bacche kanoon ko majaak samajhte hain.” Warden said to his assistant as he looked at Neil. “Kanoon ko majaak toh aap jaiso ne bana diya hai tabhi mere jaise bachhe ko khud hathiyaar uthana padta hai.” Neil replied looking at him in the eye. “Zubaan ladaata hai.” Warden said and slapped Neil.“Le jao ise yaha se.” Warden ordered and one of his assistant took Neil inside where there were several rooms. He took him to the last room where already one boy was there. “Hello, myself Mickey.” Boy extended his hand. “Neil.” Neil shook hands with him.

Present day, At Anna’s dockyard

Mickey was hiding with his men in the dockyard waiting for arms consignment. He was supposed to attack Anna’s and Patnaik’s men once the ship arrives and loot the ship. Finally the ship arrived and Anna’s and Patnaik’s men started unloading the boxes full of latest weapons and explosives. When Mickey was sure that they have unloaded the consignment fully he ordered his men to attack. They shot some of their men and cross firing started from both side. But Mickey was shocked to see that from nowhere police raided the dockyard with large force and started killing all the goons. Mickey signaled his men to come back. Few of them died, few of them were arrested by police but most of them came back to Mickey. They took with them whatever boxes they could manage to grab and Mickey managed to abduct two men with him. One was Anna’s brother and other was Patnaik’s son. They quickly left the place before police could stop them.

Neil’s mansion

“Leave me alone. I want to take some rest.” Mini said as she asked Isha to leave who was keeping an eye on her like a hawk since morning. “You can take rest. I will not disturb you. In fact I am also feeling sleepy so I was thinking that may be I’ll also lie down.” Isha replied as she eyed the bed. “What? You will sleep here?” Mini asked shocked. “Yes Neil has asked me to keep an eye on you 24*7 so obviously I’ll be sleeping here only.” Isha shrugged. “I wont let you sleep here. I need privacy. So just get out.” Mini replied. “Well, in that case I have to ask Neil?” Isha said and turned to leave. Mini fumed with anger. She was noticing this girl since morning. She was trying to irritate Mini knowingly and whenever Mini said anything she on the pretext of confirming it from Neil wanted to go near him. Mini could see clearly she was besotted by Neil. The scene from morning when Neil was just in towel and this girl was in his arms floated in front of Mini’s eyes and jealousy once again burned her heart.“Neil? Call him sir or boss or Mr. Oberoi. Only people close to him can call him by first name.” Mini replied with attitude. “And if you are so interested in spending time with me then give me a pedicure.” Mini added.

“What?Give you a pedicure, my foot. What do you think of me?” Isha asked getting offended. “A maid.” Mini shrugged. “I am not your maid.” Isha pointed her finger at Mini. “Well, as far as I remembered Neil asked me to consider you as my assistant, helper, friend or maid whichever I like. I would like to call and treat you as maid….simple.” Mini smiled sarcastically. “Think whatever you want. I wont do your pedicure.” Isha said with gritted teeth. “Ok, then give your explanation to Neil as I am going to complain about you.” Mini said as she raised her eyebrow in the same way like Isha. Isha gulped hard as she could imagine the scene before her eyes-

“Neil,this girl didn’t take my orders. She made me upset.” Mini said pouting like a child.

“What?You dared to upset my jaan. You have no right to live.” Neil said as he pointed his gun at Isha’s forehead.

“Noooo!!” Isha shouted as she came out of her imagination. “Please don’t complain him.”Isha pleaded. Mini laughed at her state. “Ok, I wont complain and you don’t need to do my pedicure also. Just leave me alone at least in night time. You can sleep in the adjacent room.” Mini ordered. Isha nodded and quickly left her room before Mini could change her mind. Mini laughed for sometime on Isha. She closed the door of her room as soon as Isha left. Mini went to the bathroom and took out her things from the toilet flush tank. She installed her set up and dialed Hanuman’s number. “Hello, Did you raid the place. You got anything?”Mini asked. “Yes, we have confiscated the whole consignment and also arrested so many of their men. Thanks for the info. Keep giving us more tips.” Hanuman said.

“I want to but….Neil doesn’t talk much about everything in front of me. All such meetings and discussions happens in his room only.” Mini stated her problem.“See Mini, I know all this is very difficult for you and after getting the glimpse of the way that psycho treats you it would be cruel and selfish on my part to force you into it but…..we have to make sacrifices for our mission.”Hanuman Singh said. “What do you mean?” Mini asked confused. “You have to go close to him to make sure you don’t miss any information that could be vital for our mission. He is obsessed about you and you said you know his weaknesses,remember. Then use them for your advantage.” Hanuman Singh said. “Hmm.” Mini could only utter this as she was busy in contemplating that in the process of coming close to him to fish out information how she would control her wayward heart. Mini cut the call as she heard the car’s horn on the main gate. She put everything back to its place and came running to see who has come. Mini saw Mickey came back from the dockyard and his men were forcing two men to walk inside on a gun point. She went downstairs to know more about them.

Mini came to the living area. She stood hiding behind the staircase in the darkness.She saw Neil was sitting on the large king sofa chair comfortably. He was smoking his favorite Cuban cigar. Mickey brought both the men in front of him. “What?How come police came there?” Neil asked from Mickey. “I was wondering same.First I thought that may be Anna and Patnaik might have had fight on some issue and Anna gave information to police to destroy Patnaik’s consignment.” Mickey stated the possibility. “But why would Anna want police to raid his dockyard.His men were killed too in the police firing. Plus, now the police will seal the dockyard also.” Neil replied. “Yes, and I kept asking these two also. They are saying that none of them involved police in this.” Mickey said referring to Anna’s brother and Patnaik’s son whom he abducted from the site.

“You might have not asked them properly.” Neil said and gestured some of his men to torture the abducted men by beating them black and blue but both of them kept repeating the same thing that they don’t know how police came there. Mini was horrified by witnessing the torture of both the men. “Hmm…jarur koi teesra khiladi bhi hai is khel mein jo janta tha is consignment ke bare mein.” Neil concluded. Mini heard it and gripped her dress in nervousness as Neil guessed the involvement of someone else in information leakage.

“Ab in dono ka kya karna hai?” Mickey asked. “Karna kya hai? inhe wapas bhej dete hain inke family ke pas…..I mean inki bodies waaps bhej dete hai.” Neil smiled evilly. “No, please leave us. We don’t have any information about anything.”Both of them pleaded. “Yes, I know you both are useless that’s why I am getting rid of you.” Neil said as he gestured one of his man and he pointed his gun at them. “Please show some mercy. I have a family. They will be devastated.” Anna’s brother begged. “You have enmity with my dad. I have not done anything to you.Please leave me.” Patnaik’s son also pleaded. Neil’s man unlocked the gun.

Mini who was witnessing all this standing in the shadow of staircase, gasped and it attracted Neil’s attention. “Whos there? Neil asked. Mini came out in light.“What are you doing here? Go back to your room.” Neil said sternly. Mini shook her head in no and slowly came near him. Neil looked at her. She looked shaken.May be she saw the whole scene and now scared of it. “Neil, don’t kill these men.” Mini requested as she saw the scared faces of both the men. “How many times I have to tell you? Don’t interfere in my work.” Neil shouted in anger. Mini closed her eyes and started sobbing. She couldn’t bear the sight in front of her. Two men beaten up brutally and begging for their life. Mini was seeing the Neil she had forgotten, the merciless don Neil from whom she had ran away. She was seeing him in front of her right now.

“You love me right? For me…..dont shoot them.” Mini again pleaded as she sat on the floor on her knees in front of Neil and held his hand. Neil pulled her up by holding her shoulders. He made her sit on his lap and put off his cigar. “You look tempting when you are scared.” Neil said as he ran his finger from Mini’s forehead to her chin and put some lose strands of her hair behind her ear. “Neil, these guys….” Mini again started but Neil put his finger on her lips.“Have I ever said no to my jaan for anything?” Neil asked as he lifted her chin up with his thumb. “You mean, you really….?” Mini asked hopefully. “Yes jaan, I wont shoot them.” Neil said and stood up from the king size sofa chair and made Mini sit on his place. “But….they are related to my enemies so I cant let them go so easily. They deserve punishment for it. Hmm….what can we do about them if not shoot them. Ya, I got an idea.” Neil said as he walked towards both his hostages. In the very next second he pulled out his knife and slashed their throats. “See, work done. I didn’t shoot them jaan.” Neil said as he smiled looking at Mini. Mini watched those two persons fell on the ground and they were shaking and shivering as more and more blood was gushing out of their throats and finally after few minutes they died. Mini was petrified witnessing their murder. She kept looking at their bodies for sometime in shock.
