The Oscars themselves are all about lobbying and knowing the right people in the right place. That's why people who are up for Oscars have to network a lot and attend all the right parties and get to know the right people so they can get their votes.

The Academy deliberately made this sponsorship model so that elites invite their other elite friends. If they wanted to get random people, they would just choose those random people themselves. They deliberately created this process so that elites people get their friends and associates into the Academy.
