The numbers they did were very good for the types of films they were. Most of the time these small films have the disaster fate of films like Chhapak, The Sky is Pink, Jazba, Sarbjit, etc.

Or they wanted to capitalize on the interest generated by a new actress whose first movie was resoundingly popular? I love how people on this forum are so willing to assume the worst of Alia and call her below average or whatever to the point that even if she did well in a movie y’all just say “well she didn’t get it on her own”. So what if she did lobby for the role anyway? You think Bollywood is just about acting in the roles you get? We worship actors in India, which means those actors need to be able to create buzz, to sell themselves as much as their work. Alia Bhatt does that well, on top of acting well, hence why if given the chance I don’t see why a director wouldn’t take her over their first choice.

The point is that by her being forcefully cast, she is taking others work. And this didn’t happen once, this happened multiple times in her case.

Doesn’t matter. If it’s not a hit, super hit or blockbuster it’s not a true it. Also, is it shameful we are comparing a Queen like Alia to films like Sky is Pink and Jazbaa?

First off, how do you know she took others work? By the same media reporting y’all are saying is malicious, etc. when they report on outsiders?

Secondly, if there were rumors of a promotion going around, wouldn’t you or anyone else lobby for the position, try to find out the details, make the case for you to get it? That’s a huge part of getting ahead in today’s world, regardless of the field. There are so many talented people, so to get a job over the next person you have to be able to self promote and distinguish yourself from the crowd. What is so wrong if you do that?

So one of my friends is a resident doctor at top program. And he knew from when he was super young that’s what he wanted. So in high school he looked up some of the top doctors in that program and went to volunteer at the causes they supported and meet them, etc. He easily could have just gone to the hospital where his mom worked, but he did this instead. By doing so, he built relationships with these people, so when his application came up for internship and residency, they put in a good word and he got in. He’s still a capable, talented person, but he planned and used street smarts to give himself an edge.

Similarly, Alia got a Karan Johar debut at like 18-19 instead of working for her father, built a relationship and now even if she doesn’t ask, KJo has a vested interest in her career. Doesn’t surprise me, considering she’s apparently wanted to be in Bollywood from a young age. However, she’s also a very capable actress, and KJo’s interest doesn’t take away from that.

There’s nothing wrong with either scenario, it’s just good planning.

I don't even think she is the numero uno.

On what basis? She isn't even that popular

Those films you mentioned were not clean hits , did you look up costs and budget ?
