The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute scholars undertook a gigantic research project on Mahabharata. B.O.R.I. is a monument of information. The B.O.R.I. critical edition of Mahabharata was prepared with painstaking efforts of scholars for 5 decades consulting 1,259 manuscripts.
The scholars removed several interpolations and folklores. B.O.R.I. CE is the most recommended version.
So, I disagree that Tewary was confused when he wasn't even the one doing research. Scholars did it way before. Folklores can easily be filtered out so distortions are neither inevitable nor ways of interpretation which comes from the reading of texts. The versions/folklores were available in the 80s too. But, they didn't distort it like Tewary did. Tewary just wanted his version to be different because CE was used by BRC. Moreover, the scholar he hired is a twitter troll who calls women Chudail at the drop of hat. And, I remember the latter saying that the creative team no more consults him.
The distortions in Starbharat are Tewary's imaginations and propaganda. Furthermore, there's favouritism towards certain characters and actors. So many important relationships aren't developed and some characters are grossly villanized. A great warrior is reduced to a wimpy kid and the second antagonist is whitewashed. Important characters are missing but a fictional Vrushali created in 1960s is given SS. There's a lot more.
There's an eyesore in which Bhishma holds Yudhisthira hostage and blackmails Bhima to release Duryodhana like a Bollywood goon. If Tewary did a bit of research, he would definitely know that Yudhisthira's capture meant the end of war and that Bhishma wouldn't have stooped that way.
The thing is, SPMB isn't bearable for most average Mahabharata readers. Scholars hardly give a damn. That's why you don't see prominent people praising it. You will understand my point once you read the epic :)
Until then, let's agree to disagree. 😊😁
@Bold - Karna Sangini is a fanfiction based upon a fanfiction by Kavita Kane. It was meant to be that way. Other shows are...🤢
P.S. BRC MB has distortions too. Most of them are copied by Starbharat. Overall, BRC is about 80% accurate.
the screenplay, special effects, sets were better than BRC version considering it was made years after when better technology was available. The one thing good they did was show good bonding between the characters which BRC lacked. If they had kept it authentic to the epic and eliminated the distortions shown by BRC and not added extra distortions then this would have been a good show
