To be honest I was always apprehensive about this show. The older members would remember, the one thing I asked in the MM forum, before this forum was launched is that do they have enough material on RK to run even a year-long serial.
I thought maybe it'll be okay (as per scriptures) for the first few months and then they'll run a rampage, but they made up some completely different scripture of their own!
My first breaking point was, Radha not remembering who she was. Look, Sridhar cursed Radha right, and so she should suffer, logically? But if she remembers nothing about herself, she is not missing anyone, she's happy being a simple gopi, and saara punishment and the viraha and all is being bore by Krishna!
Didn't that defeat the whole purpose of Sridama's curse there? The main point of that curse was that Radha would remember and pine for Krishna every second of her life, right from her birth, repenting for having insulted Sridama! Where is that repentance and that pining in this Radha? The one who could've broken that curse in a heartbeat and gone to live with Krishna, but who CHOSE that life of viraha because she realized she had to repent?!
There was another major reason for why I always wanted a RK show.
I love to watch separation onscreen.
Mujhe Milan se zyada Viraha rash pasand hai and what else could give me a good separation story than Radha Krishna !?
I liked their teenage love story coz I was mostly looking forward to their separation after Kans vadh.
But here there's no separation. They are still not separated. Even when they were physically apart, they could see each other whenever they wanted, Radha could see everything through Shuka, they could talk whenever they wanted-----how was that any different from this Facebook generation ?!?
They never had to crave each other. Radha never became the Yogan of Krishna because she never needed to.
If the west has Romeo Juliet, we have Radha Krishna. But what if Romeo and Juliet don't die and start living together in an open relationship where he marries one girl after another and call all of them friends and Juliet as the bff ? How fcuked up would that be ?
The main essence of a Radha-Krishna story is love amidst separation and that is entirely lost here.
I don't get what's wrong with bollywood. Here Akbar, who supposed to have a harem was in a monogamous relationship with jodha in the movie. And here Krishna, who is supposed to be romance personified, has a weird sort of platonic harem aka friendship club.
