The lack of emotions is very much a big fat flaw in the shows writing. The biggest reason IMO the show never connected is because the situations have been so contrived and almost gimmickish that there has been no room for genuine emotions. Ekta can do emotions well but in this show she hasn’t built on any relationship in an emotional way which is so strange.
