These things can easily casue misunderstanding between a couple esp in initial days, MJ is trying to bank on that.

That's the problem with the story, either Maya wins and MJ looks dumb or MJ wins and Maya looks dumb. Why can't there be a balance of power between protagonist and antagonist, where both get to win and lose, as required.
