I know we are not supposed to discuss other personalities in this thread but I want to share the love of another couple which had a similar story. Apologies but I do see quite a number of resemblance in the issues. Kishwar Desai had written a book on Nargis and Sunil Dutt's story by the name of 'Darlingjee'. Her source material are the letters and diaries both wrote over the course of their life. Sunil Dutt kept these letters / diaries private and it was only after his death that the family handed it to the author. It is a highly recommended read. I am drawing parallels between the early courtship period of their life.

The insecurity of Sid that we see is also evident in letters written by Nargis. She thinks that as a star she now is on the decline. She writes that I could not believe that I would be deserving of anyone's love. When I read it, I was amazed at her humility as someone of her stature could think that she is not worthy. And when she falls in love with Sunil Dutt she calls it a spiritual experience. But all through that period her biggest fear is that Dutt Sahab will back out as he has better options. She was the the well read, refined and sophisticated of the two. She also had a volatile temper.

Dutt Sahab on the other hand was not in the league of Nargis. He was the good old lad from Punjab trying to make it big in Bombay. He in one of his letters signs off sarcastically as ' a junior artiste'. He was afraid that people will call him a gold digger. Someone who will use Nargis to climb up the social ladder. He is educated and confident but not refined. In fact, Nargis corrects his pronunciation of 'patrol' to 'petrol' in one of the letters. He calls himself son of the soil. He had a very pleasant disposition. Very similar to what we see in Shehnaz.

I see the same patterns here although there is role reversal. The Dutts had a torrid but intense courtship of 1.5 years i.e. from 1957 till 1958. Intense love and intense insecurity due to the reputations of both, scrutiny by the media / industry as they were shooting Mother India and added pressure to find common ground. Hypothetically, there was no way their love could survive but it did and flourished. I wish Sid and Shehnaz too are able to do it.

@ Ritzie, can’t find your original post, but yes, I was a bit disappointed in Sid’s statement to Aarti that he couldn’t choose between Sana and Aarti. He told PaHira that Sana would feel bad if Aarti had been saved, right? He also told it’s a payback thing to Paras. And then we think this could alternately be his attempt to dismiss Aarti from the race. And then that this could also have been his strategy to expose Asim to Sana? Which one of these are true now? 🤔 All? Some?

Yes she is real. And I love how she is so confident and proud of her roots and desi panna. Something that vishal lacked. He was ashamed of his rural background.

Sana represents the generation which is breaking hackles of the british legacy which associated your speaking english with your being superior.

Her confidence ,her wit ,her pure heart is what sid fell for. And he said in one usud that he wants someone who doesn't stretch fights and arguments for long. Sana fits the bill.

And that line teri shakal dekh kehi pyaar aa jaat hai was so awwwwwwwwww!!!!

Uma I have been thinking of that too . But my conclusion is sid is playing safe with aarti after that panic attack.

He doesn't want one at this stage. Aarti would put all blame on him. So he is going soft.

I have noticed that often. He avoids arguments with her.

Yesterday he was harsh with her. But then he started targeting her through sana.

He doesn't want any drama now from aarti.
