Ananya was always honest and transparent about her feelings for Rudra. She never hid it nor did she use it to make him feel obliged to her. It was Rudra's decision to marry her because he thought binding himself to Anu would curb his feelings for Maya. About friendship not existing, I guess it depends on the equation between two people. Even in S1, Saanjh and Arjun were best friends and Saanjh loved Arjun since they were children. Difference here is Saanjh assumed Arjun had picked up the clue since everyone around them knew about her feelings for him. But Arjun had been oblivious to it. So when he fell for Maya, though Saanjh felt fate had betrayed her she never held a grudge against Arjun or Maya (till she started noticing something was off about Maya). She even supported Maya when Vandana mistreated her. But here Rudra took the step forward and proposed to Ananya. Promised her he won't back off from the commitment but it's just been few days only. I don't think even a month has passed since then. And Rudra dumps her on the day of the wedding. She got to know Maya had feelings for Rudra and she gets to know from Maya again that Rudra loves Maya and not her. Who should she believe? The girl she has known from past few days and she strongly suspects is upto something fishy or her friend whom she has known for years? She also believed Rudra to be the man who never backs off from his commitments. Till yesterday he never gave away any clue that he loves Maya. Yes there was this unrest in him which she saw but conflicted feelings are not the same as your belief. There is a reason u call it conflicted feelings coz when u r conflicted u can choose to go anyway u want. U r not certain. The example that comes to my mind here is a contest where several people are competing for a prize. Everybody fights for it, even when they realise they have fallen behind in the race. Coz till the last moment, anything can change n the person who had suffered a setback can gain a lead. Till u arrive at the finish line u won't give up. U might have fallen behind but u make every effort to get ahead. But after that, no matter how much u struggled, or the hard work u put in, if u didn't win u have to accept that it was not meant to be. And finally u give up accepting reality. Rudra declaring his feelings for Maya was that point here. So till then Ananya fought but when Rudra said he loves Maya, that was it. She knew she had lost and there is no point trying. And that's what u see in the precap. She declares in a dead voice that the wedding is not happening.
Rudra is a person who cannot be manipulated but his strength and weakness both happens to be the same - faith in people he loves. No matter how much MJ tried to persuade him in the past about his ex, he did not stop believing her till he saw her act of betrayal with his own eyes. He was not stupid to have faith in her. Infact anybody should be lucky to get a partner like him. Not everyone is capable of undying faith. But this could also be his downfall. His faith in Maya who will lead him to his doom. I am sure by the time he gets to know about Maya he might have lost another person or two. Probably Anu and his mom. He will be shattered and it will be his faith in Maya that broke him apart. Waiting to see how he will react that day.
