Why Hum Tum wasn't a Blockbuster like DDLJ?

Hum Tum was a much better romcom compared to DDLJ. Even after all these years the movie is still very entertaining and enjoyable. I wonder why this movie failed to strike a chord with the masses like DDLJ which had an average storyline that we have already seen in many movies. Hum Tum was so fresh and unique compared to DDLJ in it's approach of a love story.

It's not even about stardom. As it was DDLJ which made SRK a Superstar. Seeing Hum Tum I wondered why it failed to do the same for Saif. As he too played a similar type of Casanova character and was even appreciated by the audience.

Infact Raj-Simran and Karan-Rhea have a lot common in couple dynamics. But Karan and Rhea had depth in their characters compared to Raj and Simran.

So why audience liked a stale romcom over a fresh romcom.

Hum Tum was a hit

I loved DDLJ more than Hum Tum. DDLJ was more family orientated so it appealed to the masses. Hum Tum has a more urban centric feel. Its great but I don't think it would appeal to the masses.

Hum Tum is my most favourite desi Romcom.

Hope it keeps getting more popular year by year.

DDLJ had that desi tadka..punjabi family, Punjab Di Khushboo, lehraate khet and all the nok jhok which appealed to the NRIs too..more massy

Simran alliance fixed with a person she never met she presents her emotions acceptance love for Raj expressed her plight to her mom very well

Rhea had love marriage but I never seen love respect plight for loosing her husband in the character

Raj has vices but confident about himself he knows he can take care of simran also value her family

Karan knows he is not good for good girls he tried to fix Rhea with his friend but end up sleeping with her kissed her without her consent no respect or value for women and family his character just went with the flow

I think to audience RAJ-SIMRAN are more appealing than Karan-Rhea

C'mon Hum Tum was just copy of When Harry Met Sally

Hum tum is my all-time fav Hindi rom-com. Just brings a smile on my face whenever I watch it.
