And also, Maya's dialogue of, khatre mein insaan khudko bachata hai ya apne andar ke insaan ko.
Rudra saved the insaan in him. Maya saved herself to ensure MJ lost himself the way she lost the insaan in her.
So I think they were compartments of the same train where one chose not to follow the engine to doom - Rudra
