"Aapko ek good news deni thi. Kal aapki aur Mr. Basu ki shadi hai."

Forcing a smile in that moment was one of the hardest things that he had to do lately in his life. He hadn't seen this coming even if a part of him always knew that she wasn't meant to be his. He waited for catching the surprise painted on her face transforming into sheer joy slowly though a part of him still wished that some magic would happen and she would say - that she wanted to be his.

Oh you fool! Despite having happened all that had, in your life so far, you still have the audacity to think that your luck is good enough to bring you such surreal happiness?

She was lost in her own self, still in process of letting it sink in her system that she was finally going to be back to her soul mate. Who had thought that she would be able to, someday? She, most definitely, hadn't.

Holding his grief and pain closer to his heart, he took a step back. Another one. One more and within a few moments, he was out of the room, out of her sight that never had him in it. What a painful realization!

"Mehra - book our tickets. We are leaving for Australia tomorrow."

Fir se andhere chha gaye, Khoyee ujale ki kiran,

Kal raaho me phool the, Ab hai kaanto ki chubhan!

Dropping the phone in his pocket, he commanded his legs to take him out of the place that suffocated him. He took out his car and drove far from that house.

Nobody knew.

Nobody understood.

Not even the woman who his stupid heart, had no idea why, thought that she would.

Nobody had even a slightest idea of what it took him to stay at Basu Bari. Nobody could figure out from his stance that behind the mask of the mighty Mr. Bajaj, stayed hidden a nine year old Rishabh, traumatized till the date, unable to get out of the flashes of his mother - lying on the floor - her clothes soaked in blood - her wrists cut open, and her hand that still stayed on his hair – his last moments with his mother.

He would never stop blaming himself. Never. Sure, they killed his mother but had he not gone out that day to play – he could have saved his mother. He could have at least tried. His mother was brutally murdered and her nine year old boy was practically too young to do anything. That day, they made him an orphan, brutally murdering his mother, snatching his only family from him.

He would never forget that Moloy and Mohini Basu, even though didn't kill his mother, but did leave her to die, and protected the one who was responsible for his shattered life. He had begged to them, to take her to the hospital and they had walked on him. He had begged to his neighbors and they were not willing to put themselves in the police case. He had begged to everyone he could but none – none had stepped up to help and that day, the nine year old boy had watched his mother dying right in front of his eyes. That day, the soft emotions of a kid were crushed. His world had ended, his life had ruined and his heart, hardened.

He would have died that day had his Maasi not looked for him and saved his life. That day, a new Rishabh Bajaj was born. The boy had lost his everything. People had treated his life like a toy to play with and had taken away his mother, his world from him and he had made up his mind back then – that he was going to snatch even the ground from their feet. He had made a firm decision – not to spare anyone and he had kept walking on the path that he had chosen for himself until the day he read his mother's diary that she had asked him to keep with him when she was almost dead and read only when his Maasi would allow him to.

The day he read her diary, his unsettled heart had got to know why it happened what had happened with him. He remembered her every word by heart.

I thought... he loved me. I didn't think twice before surrendering myself to him. Fool... I was a fool in love who couldn't see that the one I was laying my soul, bare to, was going to abandon me like a tissue paper. Life is unpredictable. We don't know what would happen the next second, which is why I am writing this because you deserve to know who your father is. Perhaps... I don't know... if I would be with you when you grow up to tell you all of this so if not me, this diary would stay.

Shubh Das. His name is Shubh Das. We studied together. Eventually fell in love and I was a fool to give my all to him. It didn't occur me once that he would leave my side.

He didn't accept you. He accused me of being a characterless woman and refused to accept that you were his kid. He said, he knew that I was sleeping around. I know, this must be so hard for your to know but please, stay calm. The time had passed.

I came to Varanasi, away from him, away from the place that held our memories and then, you were born. You reminded me of him in so many ways but I was determined to raise you as a better person - not even a bit like your father.

You would respect women which he never did. .

You would take care of every woman coming your way.

You would never stand any I'll treatment with them in front of you.

You would stand by them, in need.

You would never abandom someone like your father abandoned me.

His eyes brimmed with tears as he sat in his office cabin. I didn't abandon her, Maa. I let her go to the love of her life. He left his chair and found himself a corner and slipped on the floor...

<><> <><><>

This is what I have, been writing. I don't know how it is turning out though. I was trying to draw some parallels between his mother and Prerna.

I don't even know if this is worth writing and continuing..

Please continue. It’s so good!!!
