This is one of the most tried-and-tested ways to make a character grey according to shows and movies

They’ve already laid foundation to his father’s horrid side.. there was so much pain and misery in that short description. I don’t think it’ll make the viewers uncomfortable.

Ever since the beginning of this insipid jail track, I've been so certain he's only been giving her the illusion of choice. She chooses for him to go to jail, and he abides. He told her again that he would do whatever she wanted, and she says she wanted him to come home, and he arranges for bail. But that 1/10th of a second smirk when she walks away to post bail, that spoke volumes. He'll continue to feed her sense of self-importance and morality. He'll build himself up to be everything and anything she wants him to be, because he already knows what that kind of man looks like. He knows what it is she wants. She wants a cookie-cutter clean and honest man, and he'll become it in a way that she never has reason to doubt him.
