cheers to this. Woman in Indian tv shows are stereotyped as a daughter in law who obey their husband and cook and clean. Look at American tv shows and films. Woman are portrayed strong independent and powerful. You won't find any of these in ekta show. I think it really sets a bad example for young girls in india. Fortunately the youth audience is turning to international television rather than Indian. Game of thrones, Wonder Woman, Netflix series the crown, stranger things, Jessica jones etc the list goes on. Thank god erica last show portrayed her as an independent woman that 3 years later people still talk how great that show was.Originally posted by: manzilmukul
Word to everything you said. Women are much more than wives and mothers. They need serious identities. If Rishabh can be a business tycoon, why can’t Prerna earn an independent name? I have a problem with writers. Please show women studying.
Completely irrelevant, but there’s another positive show called Kahan Hum Kahan Tum running on SP where they show the lead appearing for her matriculation examination privately because she couldn’t study as she started working in TV shows at the age of 12!!!
Why can’t we have such leads?
@feminist
I call myself an equalist or egalitarian! If women want equal rights and respect- Earn for yourself, fend for yourself. It’s not a man’s responsibility to carry your burden nor a woman’s responsibility to do unpaid labour. Both earn, both cook, or divide responsibilities. Our fixed gender roles have made it so hard for men and women both. Time to be fluid. Every couple should make their own rules. Instead of teaching women how to be a good wife and take care of the household, we should teach them the power of education, the importance to face every challenge which includes financial too, themselves. And, instead of teaching men how to be just breadwinners, teach them to contribute in all forms of work. Cooking, cleaning etc, these are basic skills both the genders should do it.
