Apparently the current meetings in New York are to accrue additional funds for Takht.

With Kalank proving to be the biggest blot on its producer Karan Johar’s career, there are loud whispers doing the rounds of his ambitious costume drama Takht getting shelved.

Reports suggest that after the debacle of his highly ambitious costume drama project Kalank, Karan and his production partners Fox-Star have done a rethink on the budget of Takht.

But here is the truth: at this very moment Karan is in New York for high-level meetings on Takht.

A very well informed source reveals, “The budget of the film is indeed sky-high. But there was never a re-think over doing Takht. The failure of Kalank has nothing to do with Takht. Kalank was directed by Abhishek Varman, whereas Takht is being directed by Karan himself, his directorial undertaking since Ae Dil Hai Mushkil three years ago, and yes his most ambitious film to date.”

Apparently the current meetings in New York are to accrue additional funds for Takht.

“Karan’s film would cost anything from Rs 180-200 crore. Supplementary finances are being negotiated at this very moment,” adds the source.

The lavish costume drama set in the Mughal era stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal and Janhvi Kapoor. It is expected to be one of the most expensive films ever made in India.

I wonder why all Ranveer fans are so much against him doing Takht. Kjo clearly likes him and won't give him a raw deal. Are they scared of Vicky overshadowing Ranveer which is very much a possibility given his talent and Aurangazeb's role 😆

Karan Johar is usually synonymous with his unique take on different kinds of love and relationships. As a producer and more so as a director, he has brought out several facets of romance that exist between individuals. After his last directorial hit Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, the filmmaker has decided to completely change course and take up a subject that's not-so-conventional Karan, at all!

KJo announced his next - a magnum opus - titled Takht - a period drama which will revolve around the Mughal era and features an ensemble cast with the likes of Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor. Recently, there were a few reports that claimed that Takht has been temporarily shelved, after Dharma Productions received a huge setback due to the failure of Kalank.

But we can assure you that the film is definitely on track. A source working on Takht, assures us, "The team is currently working rigorously to get the research material and everything in place. There's a separate room in Dharma, where they brainstorm and look out for pictures to set up the scenario from the Mughal era, that the film is based on. How the houses were, how the warfare looked like - all of it is being properly looked upon. A huge set will be built in Mumbai and work on that will also begin soon. As of now, Takht will roll out by the end of 2019 or early next year around January 2020."

Pinkvilla also got an exclusive scoop that Takht is still on. Kjo's pr is doing damage control? Waise it will be a big blow to his ego and embarassing if this project get shelved. Hope RS walks out and this get shelved.

Ranveer has been overshadowed in every film of his as per those who dislike him so that hardly matters....most Ranveer fans have been anti-takht post Kalank debacle and had been tweeting to Veer to leave the film cause as per rumours KJo ghost directed Kalank. Also yeah KJo cannot be trusted..if he could shaft Varun and Mads and make Kalank all about aloo who is to say he will not do the same to the cast of Takht. Vicky has already said Aloo has the best role so I foresee something similar happening in Takht too.

Yes he does 😂. And these stories are so weird. Just an already released poster and a quick walk down the hallway with a caption that says Takht Prep. He’s basically arguing with IF without making a point 🤣
