Yes, I'm talking about Ayan Mukerji's movie that's bankrolled by KJO and starring nepokids Ranbir and Alia.
I'd want nothing more than a good Hindi fantasy movie, but I'm effing skeptical.
Ayan Mukerji is a slice of life director who has never done a speculative (sci-fi, horror, fantasy) movie in his life. The budget of Brahmastra is around Rs. 150 crore most of which was probably spent on the starcast's salary as is the tradition. Mukerji recently pushed back the release date by six months to do more work on the special effects which sounds sketchy to me as it was an unplanned decision. Ranbir described the film as "romantic-fairytale in a supernatural format" which gives me Naagin vibes, lmfao.
I wish KJO had the guts to hire a visionary indie writer/director (Marvel Studios does this for their superhero movies) for this film instead. Anand Gandhi (creative director of Tumbbad and Ship of Thesus) or Aditya Vikram Sengupta (Jonaki) would have been better choices.
My prediction is that if the film is barely competent it will be a hit, but the bar of the Indian audience is astronomically high like never before. I'm waiting for the trailer.
