I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle - they are friends who both got an invitation. They decided to do the trip together and do a travel vlog and photoshoot and take a break. Erica’s birthday happened to be on the same day. They didn’t spend any alone time together because that was not the purpose of the trip.

(This is more for me - feeling my rational brain to be sensible and stop shipping!)
