Chapter 66: Limbo (Part C)
'Maan' She called walking past the darkened trees, fright accentuated the howling's of the wolves and the wild dogs.
'Maan' she cried louder slowly digging further into the forest, there seemed to be no sign of human life rather wild beast purred around. Everything was pitch black and colour drained as if stuck in a black and white picture.
'Mama please' she prayed closing her eyes crouching to the ground as a frightening scream echoed through the black forest
'Girl of the Handa's' a whisper called, light wind breezed by and sunny beams reflected
'Geet Handa' the voice repeated as if unsure making Geet usher out of the ball she formed, upon revealing has she noticed that she was no longer surrounded by dark tall trees rather nothing, absolutely nothing. She got up staring around confused, there was nothing apart from white. She looked down at herself still dressed in Maan's large T-shirt and then again to the whitened environment in uncertainty.
'Geet' she heard the call again from behind and immediately turned on her heel to witness the only colour in the otherwise bland environment; there stood tall a beautiful blossom tree with pink tiny flowers and luscious green leaves. At the trunk sat an old woman, her silver hair falling to one side roughly reaching her knee with both her hands resting on her lap. Her clothes were grey compared to the white background.
'Do you know me?' Geet asked unsurely as she advanced towards her, a look of uncertainty crossed over the wrinkled woman but then a second later she smiled reaching out a hand. Instinctively, Geet took the lathered hand feeling the hard contours and sat beside still doubtful but a feeling of safety also surfaced just with the feel of humane contact.
'I am Depali's mother, Devika' she introduced running a warm hand over Geet's still puzzled face
'I have been waiting here for you for so long' she breathed a sigh, sad and prolonged. The wait had been endless, neither had a body or a free soul, it was as if she was shackled to the tree; completely helpless to stay here alone and away.
'I shouldn't have cursed you, you were innocent and undeserving' she continued as the environment suddenly greyed in comparison to its pristine white, it was maybe her time finally to bid goodbye to her limbo. Geet finally recognised the lady from legendary tale, the tale of the mother who struck lightening on her life. She was the reason Geet suffered so much, was arrested within her own house.
'I'm sorry' Geet stared trying to smile at the apologising old woman, holding firmly at the sorry hand nodding her head as if to say it was OK, that the life of misery was ok because all she needed now was a life to stay with her here within the greying surrounding.
'I'm taking back my curse' Devika smiled leaning against the truck on final time, sleep suddenly taking over
'Be happy, be healthy' she wished as a reverent smile appeared, pious and pure
'Deepali beta is that you, it's been far too long' she complained hoarsely falling at rest finally as Geet tapped her face lightly, 'Devika ji, ummm are you alive?' she questioned feeling scared as the colour of the surrounding once again darkened
'Please wake up' she murmured dropping further closer as the body disintegrated
'Please I'm scared of the dark' she cried when nothing of Devika remained
'I forgive you, please don't leave me' she whimpered shutting her eyes close once again in fear, panic ran deep within venting its roots within her already scarred heart
'Come back don't leave me please' she begged now tearing, her small palm covered her frightened face as darkness took over. A distant memory of the torn bride relived her torments, a baby girl tapping at the closed window stood as a shadow and a girl entering the black hallow awaited.
'I don't want to be alone, I can't be alone' she demanded feeling lonely
'Geet' she heard his warm voice calling her, it was as if he was standing above her but she was too weak to look up
'Geet wake up' he called again taking her shivering body into his arms, it was cold and sweaty
'Don't leave me' she cried still in her sleep against his chest
'Geet I'm not going nowhere, please wake up' he said lacing his finger through hers. Geet' he smiled as she awoke in his arms slightly muddled from her dream
'I love you Geet' he whispered before tightening his hands around her, a hug that could last a whole lifetime and maybe more just so she knows he is there, there for her. He then peppered several kisses on her face trying to silence his berating heart which scurried witnessing her cry once again but in her dreams this time. This was his doing, he had inserted fear into his beautiful wife's mind. By the way, you should get used to waking up like this' he muttered seductively and laughed seeing her shying red face, joking seemed to have resolved the situation, at least for now all the unwanted emotions were squashed.
'Nope not getting away' he hopped over the duvet to stop her from moving away from him and the bed when he continued to gaze affectionately making her all the more shy.
'And I promise not to leave you, not today or the days afterwards he hugged from behind, his sincere oath made her happy. I love you' he kissed her nape with warmth and care, and she mellowed into his arms as they sat together on bed and watched silently outside the window, together and forever.
'Maan let go' she loudly whispered red in face, Maan had neatly tucked her hand his while his other hand went around her waist, holding her close and dear. But once again he ignored wearing a mask of ignorance, as the doctors walked them through the corridor and to Vicky's door. He was still under observation however regained consciousness last night before falling asleep again, a point of concern.
'Vicky' Dadima cried seeing her youngest grandson lay in bed, the accident left him looking extremely fragile and weak. Maan released one hand to console Dadima as a concerned Geet too stood attending to a crying Dadi.
'Meera' Dadima asked next as Geet walked ahead with Maan and dadima following but he still held her hand. Dadima' Meera cried seeing the old woman stand by the door and then immediately held out her hand as if wanting to be in the safe haven of a mother's chest. Dadima ran to her and engulfed her whole, Seema stood beside with a soft smile as Maan regained the whole of Geet in his arms. 'Did you not want to see Meera's doctor?' she asked several minutes later quietly as Meera and Seema recounted of their parts of the horrific tale. Though to the world Maan was listening however Geet should feel the angry shivers, his face a mere reflection of his inner most feelings: red eyes, veins standing out on the forehead and facial muscle contracted.
'Maan' she pulled as he entered a whole different world; away from sympathy and humanity
'Hmm' he answered turning to her with a fake smile, as if trying to imprison the crying picture Dadima, Meera and Seema made a few seconds again
'They are fine, we'll be fine' she promised kissing his inner palm in reassurance and this time around, he smiled, smiled regardless of the mess of life, regardless of knowing she still carried fears, yet she placed hope into him. That was the exact reason why he loved Geet, dearly and closely.
'Maan make sure that vile man never makes it back alive, let him die in prison' Dadima ordered in absolute hate breaking their little moment as Maan hmmed' promising himself to make Sameer's life a living hell.
'Maan do you want to see the doctor?' She asked noticing how Maan still held onto her be it her hand or a piece of her fabric even while she helped Seema to place Meera into the wheelchair to see Vicky in the next room, however all he did was smile and hold her back as the rest of the ladies walked out of Meera's room and enter Vicky's.
'Geet come with me' he asked once alone, there was fear and tension in the air
'Maan what's wrong?' she asked with a gentle smile cupping his rough face
'I promised I won't leave you' he said in a childish manner
'But you're not leaving me' she giggled seeing how he stood true to his promise, ever since the morning he hadn't let go not even for a second and somehow it pleased her soft frightened heart.
'But' he started now holding her hand but standing a few centre-metres away
'Maan please go, I know you'll be back as soon as you can' she pushed out the door however before she could step towards Vicky's room he held her hand stopping her movement, Come with me' he asked once again looking to the ground while she reached near him and held his shoulder
'Why are you so clingy today?' she complained annoyed but then rushed to kiss his cheek when he looked a little hurt, after whic she immediately moved away looking around. He innocently healed a corner of her heart yet the whole heart still remained insecure and alone.
'I...' he smiled beyond himself as he felt a swell forming. His life had always been different, very afar but Geet made him reconnect with his family and now watching the same family in pain and hurt affected his being, but maybe the morning incident when Geet woke up crying from her nightmare scared his mind, his pretty little wife cried for many days and night maybe because of hum; and somehow he couldn't find it in himself to forgive himself.
'Maan remember you have to gain my trust, how about you go see the doctor while I wait with Vicky and the rest until you come back' she ordered in a sound voice, sounding very different than the usual Geet. She had grown; grown to be a wife, a woman and maybe even his boss.
'I'll be back in a jiffy' he promised kissing her forehead and then ran towards the doctor's cubicle and she laughed seeing him run like that, was she alone? Maybe no longer, her heart leaped in faith as her face stretched into a comforting smile. Like all tales, this princess too began to trust in her prince, in her hero once again. The curse was lifting slowly and steadily.
Note: We are leaping forward by a month in teh next part, personally i reckon Sam and Adeel have found a place hence they will come to an end. Like i previously mentioned with teh story coming to an end i'd prefer to focus on Maaneet however if any of you feel theres something missing or any loopholes, please let me know. Once ended i paln to forget Cursed ever happened so there would be no fixing etc.
Thank you
