Chapter 63: From one curse to another
While Maan walked away, Dadi stood up and walked next to the window and watched Sameera for a while before turning towards the hard young man, there were two men standing beside him, the skinny man in specs was talking over the phone while the big bulgy man stared indifferently; as if caring wasn't in his nature.
'I don't know you nor I am interested in knowing you but all I want to say is, Sam's been through a lot. Honestly I don't know what exactly, however I do know her past affairs haven't been considerate towards her. So as elder I can only ask you to take care of her. The girl in there deserves her share of happiness and as for the baby thats growing, then I wish he/she receives a rightful father. If that's your child then make sure to never hurt her again' Dadi looked at him while he continued to stare into the room, for an old woman she knew he cared however maybe love would take time to form between the two
'And who exactly are you to advise me?' his resigned voice asked with a sly smile finally turning towards her. An aged person does not equate to respect in his world.
'No one really, not to her or you. But...'
'There's no buts, I do not appreciate outsiders involving in my affairs. Adeel Rana isn't a coward like her grandson, I will uphold my responsibility' sharp and to the point, he glanced towards Geet who had her mouth open in astonishment and for some reason he felt satisfaction seeing her grasp in shock.
'Well then Adeel, I have news for you. Had you been such a careful person then Sameera wouldn't come looking for a grandson. Yes he is a coward, a fool and a lot more but he isn't cruel, nor will he let the woman he loves dearly suffer as so. I remember he left his family for the woman sleeping in there and you, you couldn't even handle it for a few days' Dadi finished pointing towards Sameera as a tear slid down before turning away and walking back to Geet who hugged her, Geet looked at Adeel. It seemed he was angry with the conclusion but other than silence there was no other reply.
RING RING RING
'Who is it?' the men in black uniform snared and Seema jumped up in fright, suddenly feeling caught in the act
'My husband' she whispered pushing the object under her thigh, the menace looked at her but said nothing focusing back on the road that lead them towards the closest hospital, New Delhi Infirmary, it was much smaller then Central Hospital but nevertheless it was still a place that could take care of Meera, and maybe even easier to handle considering the state in which she was in
'Get out' the men shouted and Seema immediately pulled out asked for some assistance, the guards moved away keeping a distance apprehensively.
'What happened?' the nurse asked once Meera was pulled to a cubicle
'She was involved in an accident' Seema answered noting where the men stood, she had to think of a way to beat Sameer.
'and why has she got bandages?' the nurse interrogated looking suspicious
'a doctor onsite attended to her needs before suggesting we visit the hospital'
'hmm' the nurse looked dissatisfied as she ran to look for a doctor, Seema settled on a chair staring at Meera's heaving chest, she could fight as long as her sister was fine!
'Doctor it seems like an accident, apparently patient has received treatment but I don't know how much' the nurse re-entered along with a middle aged doctor, he then felt the pulse and stared at the injured woman for a while.
'How much blood has she lost?' he asked already writing notes
'A LOT' Seema's voice was hoarse, scared and pained; the doctor glanced at her and then looked back the nurse, but the edge of his eyes got sight of 3 men in black a few metres away from the door, though all three stood in different locations however they seemed to be conversing though eyes and for someone like this doctor; it just heightened his suspicion.
'We need an ECG, MRI and full body x-ray' he turned towards the nurse who immediately ran out to perform the order
'She doesn't look uncomfortable considering the pain she should be under' the doctor asked
'ermmm the doctor gave her anaesthetic' she answered looking out to see the men
'Ok do you know her blood type, since its most probably we will need to transfer blood into her system' even before the doctor could finish, Seema had briefed her with the blood type 'same as mine B+, if you want I can give mine'
'Yes that would speed up the process, but before that I need you to fill out the patient form and medical history, ok' the doctor handed out a few forms just before the nurse appeared with two ward boys who rolled out the bed with Meera and turned towards the X-Ray ward. At this point, two men remained outside the cubicle Seema was in and the other followed Meera, thereby confirming the doctor's suspicion.
'Vicky' Maan called running towards the unconscious body that was pulled out the ambulance. Two things caught Maan's breath: Vicky's body was soaked in blood, and the deep nasty looking gash on his left shoulder.
'Doctor' he called as people rushed towards the operating room
'I can't say anything yet' the woman established trying to provide some kind of comfort
'Just make sure he returns to me' Maan requested resting against the wall as the doctor moved into the room. He stayed there walking outside the room, absolutely sure not to inform anyone as of yet; Dadi already looked weak and Geet wasn't in the right frame of mind. He decided to wait until the doctor came back with some information about his little brother until he disclosed the reality to the women.
'Could you look for my brother's wife, Meera Khuranna, she's not picking up' Maan called the police when even after 3 hours she hadn't responded to his calls, this was unlike Meera hence naturally he was worried.
'Sure sir, could you mail a picture of her' Inspector Mehra answered, they had met briefly at the hospital for Maan's account before setting off a search team on Sameer Gupta
'She is Sameer's daughter, so it's possible he has her' Maan warned with pulsating anger
'I don't know Raj, why don't you call her once more?' immediately after Maan hung up, he received another call. Maan was already frustrated so the end came out as a scream, Vicky was currently in the ICU treated under serious care. He already knew of a fractured hand, broken ribs and possible brain injury, due to concussion.
'Sorry man sounds like a wrong time' Raj backed away, 'it's ok I'll check her location' he informed readying to hang up
'Wait... wait... she might be with Meera, can you check and let me know'
'New Delhi Infirmary' he answered puzzled, while Maan quickly got to his feet and promised to check it out. Raj was in New Zealand, wrapping up the remainder of his work before permanently shifting to India to be with his wife. So he was essentially scared however with Maan, he felt a little better.
'We're in trouble' he read the text and looked to his secretary giving out the order find out where Sameer is?'. He again paraded the small space but in anger this time, Seema's text was a clear indication she needed him but would Sameer dare to mess with them even after he warned him against it.
'Sir he isn't at the motel, and from the looks of it he's been hiding ever since we went home to see Senior Rana' the secretary informed as Adeel broke into maddening anger
'CAN YOU f**kHEADS NOT DO ONE THING RIGHT? He screamed already walking away, you better pray she is fine or else you and those imbecile you hired to keep an eye on Sameer with get it' Geet and Dadi looked at one another stunned with his outburst but shrugged not wanting to know, Adeel Rana came across as being a little complex.
'Sameer I swear today is your last day' he promised determined to kill the man of his last days, he walked out the hospital signalling for his bodyguards to follow as his sectary immediately got down to finding where their culprit hid.
Maan walked into the room, the information he received was shocking. Looks like Meera was also in the same accident then how could they be sent to two different hospital, the two police officers were equally puzzled who hadn't seen her at the site of the incident.
'Who brought in Mrs Khuranna?' Inspector Mehra asked the doctor who pointed towards a young woman seated beside the green plant on the corridor, 'Seema' Maan recognised walking the length of the floor after looking through the glassed wall. Meera seemed better and not as badly affected as Vicky, however due to mass blood loss and delayed healthcare treatment, the doctors were unable to determine when she will wake up.
'Seema' he called slowly knowing of her fear, she shivered initially but then relaxed realising that Maan had come with the police.
'Maan dad did it, I think Vicky is badly hurt?' She allowed herself to finally sob, a loud crack erupted from all the internal suppression. This time around the struggle to silence her cries had been mentally exhausting, it wasn't that bad when she was at the receiving end but with Meera, baby Meera it was a battle she longed to fail so with familiar faces around she let herself cry, cry from all he pain Sameer Gupta caused.
'Vicky's at Central and I'll arrange for Meera to be sent there as well, but for now tell me where he is?' he tried calming the anger that submerged, vexing rage
'Our family home' before she could finish, Maan was already walking away with the police following. However two remained behind to watch over Seema and Meera. It was only then Seema noticed that the bodyguards were gone, to be sure she looked at the doctor who signalled her to remain calm. He had already got the hospital guards to chase away the three men in uniform, he was just about to call the police when they had turned up even before he made a move of course only then realising the importance of his patient, she was a Khuranna so fundamentally he was expected to tire himself out to bare good news, the news that was worthy of the Khuranna's joy.
'You know you're really getting on my nerves' Adeel grimaced tightening the clutch he had on Sameer's jaw, a crack radiated before a painful scream but he continued to squeeze.
'Now for the last time where is Meera and Seema?' he asked with little patience, Sameer's men fled as soon as Adeel and his men made an entry on the remote estate. The few that remained where shot dead under Adeel's order, he had no tolerance today for Sameera's condition was already enough to make him restless.
'You're one big fool Sameer' he spat moving back as his men stepped forward and started to push and kick the already half-conscious Sameer Gupta.
'Sir we've found them' the secretary informed, one of the Sameer's guards hid away in the brush but seeing the blood and gore, he decided to be an informer hoping to be saved.
'Finish them' Adeel ordered walking away with the information he wanted but stopped still as several police uniformed men entered, Maan was a few steps behind. With the police taking over, Adeel's men immediately retreated allowing the police to do their job.
'What is going on in here?' Inspector Mehra probed, distrust forced the police to block the path that lead to the door as Maan watched in inhibited shock. Sameer lay in a pool of blood, and had they not been on time, he may have even been dead like some men that lay dead around however Maan wasn't sure why this man had done such an act.
'Seema and Meera Gupta are my deceased mum's nieces, so when I received a text from her saying they're in trouble I came here to see Sameer smoking and the sofa there covered in blood. So naturally I just had to make him bleed as much as he made them bleed' he answered pointing to the sofa where an injured Meera lay, he smugly looked at Maan who frowned
'Officer I'd like you to treat this man well, make sure he heals before hanging him to death after he admits to his crime, all of his crimes' Maan tidied walking towards Sameer in disgust, and then shot a square glare at Adeel who only sniggered
'Arrest them all' the police ordered just as Adeel roughened up but even he had never gone against the law so in the end he surrendered knowing he'd be released soon enough with his power.
'Let him go, I can vouch for him this time since his girlfriend is at the hospital' Maan intervened when they brought out the handcuffs.
'I did it for Sameera, she deserves happiness and one more thing I don't need you to take revenge for Meera; I can do that myself for my sister' having said that Maan walked into his car and speeded down the road. Adeel stood still for a while and then grinned looking at the sight he created. The feel of power was engulfing but for once it felt like someone else shared the stage: Maan, the man not only showed humanity but brutal vengeance. How painful would it be to be healthy before being forced to cut short your life? The struggle would be much more vicious. That was a new wickedness Adeel hadn't experienced, rather he beat his prey's until they wished for death which he delivered, but wasn't he just accommodating their want in comparison to Maan who made his victim feel safe only to be ripped apart at the last second.
Chapter 64: Evolution of the cursed princess
'The patient has gained her conscious' the doctor informed the three, Dadi looked at both Geet and Nakul before stepping into the room. Sameera stared back in shame, her dulled eyes matched that of Dadi's
'Thank you' she whispered looking grateful
'You shouldn't thank me but Nakul, if he hadn't asked then you'd probably be dead by now' it wasn't supposed to sound rude or mean but it did, a sharp sting shot into Sameera's eyes and for a minute Dadi regretted telling the truth in such a direct manner
'I'm sorry' she whispered as guilt once again took over her old being
'For forcing a separation between you and Maan, for never acknowledging you as a human never mind a woman. I know I have wronged you in several ways' Dadi apologised putting pressure on the stool that sat beside the hospital bed 'however I don't regret choosing Geet for Maan' she had wanted to say to stopped, wasn't that going to further complicate the current pained situation. Sameera however looked away in equal guilt.
'It's not entirely your fault, I persuaded Maan to marry Geet so we could keep the wealth and hold onto each other, it seemed like we both only cared for ourselves and our dear ones. In the end it was Geet who suffered the most' Sameera admitted unaware of the little silhouette who stood close to the door awaiting her turn but only heard some more truth. It'd be a lie if she said she wasn't hurt, how could Maan possibly think of harming her life just for money.
'Get well soon' Dadi finished patting her head in a blessing, maybe it was her way of accepting a truce. Next followed Nakul, he had queried how she felt and whether she wanted anything. Sameera had only smiled, liking the house keeper's care.
'Can I just say, next time think of your child and not yourself. It's easy to give up on a fight against addiction and life even, but not everyone is as selfish to put themselves before their child' Nakul had tried to curb his feelings under care but his true feelings pushed forward. Sameera nodded in understanding but said nothing, aware of her wrong move. Was having a life partner much more important than the child growing within her. Nakul then walked out the room leaving her in silence.
'Nakul kaka please take Dadi home' she heard Geet's voice, soft and tired
'But Geet'
'Dadi please, I don't want you to fall ill. I'm going to come home with Maan once he returns' the following minutes Sameera closed her eyes and listened to the retreating steps.
Geet sighed deeply tightening her hold around door handle, breathing in she walked into the room with a look that was hard to comprehend; was it sympathy, distrust or resentment.
'How are you feeling?' she asked in a small voice walking towards the bed
'I'm fine thank you' Sameera smiled despite the onus that cultivated within her, she wronged this woman in every possible way possible, yet this woman sat in the hospital room worrying over her health.
'Dadi said you were aware of your weak pregnancy yet you decided to sacrifice your child?' she asked incredulously making Sameera grasp in tears, this made her feel low
'I don't know what mother would do that? Didn't you know that drinking would cost you your offspring?' she questioned as anger grew steadily, not because of herself but more because of the thought of an innocent child suffering.
'I come from a family that trapped me within the four walls for as long as I remember, I was cursed and to protect me they robbed me off my independency. I don't know how the world sees that but I see love and security' she started finally finding the courage to share her tale
'My mother would wake up 5 every morning; set my bath, make my breakfast, feed me, get me ready and even tutor me. She did everything possible to pave a path that was accessible for me. But that's a mother!'
'Then there's you who encouraged her beloved to marry a girl unaccustomed to the worlds way of living, forced a heartbreak; that ache that was supposed to kill me. But that's not the worst thing, you then drink your child to death'
'You and Maan made the curse true, once upon a time a pained mother wished for me to die at the hands of a man I loved even before I was born, because my ancestor drowned her child's will to live. Was that my fault? Did I force her to kill herself, did I force a separation bwteen you and Maan, did I force you to drink to death?' she asked against the pain in her throat, her voice broke into two: pain and despair.
'I see there are three different types of mothers in this world: 1st my mum kind who'd do anything for her child, then there's the 2nd your kind who'll curb to their own desires even if it means the death of their child, and then the 3rd who'd watch other's children suffer just because their child was hurt' she spat in hate, as if the thread of kindness broke. She was once again that Geet that lived in the fortress locked away, and then heart-broken without a fault of her own.
'Anyway the curse that my family feared so much ended up destroying my life. My husband of one day followed your words and delivered a nicely packaged casket for me to lie in that same night; that was supposed to be the last I lived. But you know what, Maan did actually manage to kill me that cold night. My hopes, dreams, that love all burned to ashes with one word: Divorce. You had a man's love and I had my family's love'
'Yet we couldn't be happy with what we had, but I ever wished evil for anyone and definitely didn't strategise destruction. Sameera I am not blaming you, I suspect you've seen a different world than me so maybe it's ok to behave the way you, Maan and Adeel behave in your world. But in my world it isn't. Today morning, Adeel said he loved me and then here he was losing his mind over your health, it's clear to see he loves you dearly. Whether that was your plan or not, I don't care nor do I want to know. I have decided to live with Maan, I love him despite everything he has done to me; my heart cries for him so this is my official warning to you. Stop scheming against me, I may not know how this world works but I do know how to fight for ones I call my own. Its time you give up this whatever you have and focus on your child, your child deserves a mother who would put him/her above everything, even herself like my mother and most other mothers do'
'If Adeel truly loves you, then give him a chance. Following Maan would only cause more pain for you and your child, me and Maan might be disturbed but I won't say we can't live happily. Because we can, and we will with or without your presence in our life'
'Have you really forgiven Maan for everything?' Sameera asked despite the hard hitting truth, Geet thought so lowly of her, did she really think Adeel confessing his love was her plan?
'Though that isn't something that should bother you, but yes, yes I've forgiven him for everything he's done. We need to let go once in a while. Compromise as sort to make peace with happiness' Geet sounded so mature despite her lack of age and knowledge
'But that don't mean I'd continue to do so? I am not a doll so for that reason I have decided to speak to you so we know where we stand, you were Maan's past and I respect that; and I am his present and future. I don't mind coexisting with you but I'm not too sure about you or your plan?'
'Do you trust Maan that much?' Sameera asked too absorbed in the fiery heat in Geet's eyes
'Do I trust him? Yes as a lover I think I do, but as a wife who's previously been hurt then no, I don't so you being here might just spark some commotion in the future. But let me warn you now, although I don't trust him fully but I trust myself fully and I believe I am worthy of being loved, that is enough for me to live a life in peace' Geet answered looking at the odd painting hanging on the white hospital wall, it was of a woman in the middle of the sea, the waves stood tall ready to ambush her yet she seemed unfazed; an endearing smile lit her blue reflecting face; maybe she was like Geet standing against all odds.
'Sameera if it was for Maan...' Geet started not knowing how to phase it, was it a suicide attempt or a simple overdose
'It wasn't for Maan, you can be rest assured that he is a closed chapter' Sameera finally revealed the truth, Geet's assumption hurt a little more than she expected although she wasn't fully wrong. After all Sam did enter their life again with the idea to snatch Maan but now it's different, very different.
'I fell for Adeel Geet, he's different then all the men I've met. Yes he claims to love you, and I love Maan but during this time of benefitting one another I fell for him. Though he isn't the father of the baby, but for me he is. He is the only man I can imagine a future with!' she shared unlike herself. Sameera had always hidden her feelings, kept it within the deepest hallows of her chest.
'The same future which you were drinking away last night?' Geet ridiculed, she for some reason was much more soar knowing the truth. How could a mother harm her baby for a man she knew for a month or two?
'Loving a man is good, but you put him above yourself and your child. That isn't love, but selfishness. I thought I loved Maan and when he destroyed that very love, I hadn't thought of ending my life rather to end the relationship. Sameera love isn't selfish, love should make way for a better life and if that's not possible, then it isn't love. Actually quite far from it.'
'If I or shall I say when I have my child' she bowed in shyness and Sameera stared in awe at Geet, the woman practically glowed with the thought of a baby. She then placed a firm hand on her belly, her baby still remained safe for now, at least from what she's been told by the doctor. There was also the possibility of a permanent defect, her child may grow with a deformation just because she couldn't handle her addiction.
'I would love my baby more than myself, so no addiction could falter my steps from hurting my baby, and then myself. Maan would come last, for he already hurt me so wouldn't it be foolish to raise his podium. I recommend you do the same, love your baby and yourself and then can you truly love Adeel' Geet stepped up having said her last words feeling much lighter now
'I wish you well, please treasure the little joy growing within you. You don't know of the cries a wife goes through for a child, Pammi Bhabi would have loved to be in your shoes' she smiled and then turned towards the ajar door, opening it wide she saw the two men the women spoke of; both looked uncomfortable however recovered soon enough. Maan walked in holding her hand, so she came back to Sameera's bedside with a calm face.
'How are you feeling?' Maan asked despite the commotion he left, was he disturbed with Geet's reality. Had he pushed her away so much, that he was now last in her priority list but frankly did he care, she put their child and herself ahead like he'd be doing; so wasn't that a favour on him.
'Better thank you' Sameera briefly looked at him before resting her eyes on a quiet Adeel, he looked eager for them to leave
'Take are Sameera, and please don't repeat such a stupid behaviour again' Maan requested moving towards the door, also eager to be with his wife.
'Adeel let me know how the baby is?' he asked before stepping out, aiding Geet out before him. He was definitely not happy with another man's interest on his wife, even if he claimed to love someone else now.
'Yeah like as if I would' Adeel fleeted from left to right flipping to Sameera's other side, she giggled lightly seeing his annoyed side
'DON'T DO THAT AGAIN' he shouted in a whisper, the veins of his neck accentuated in long snaky lines
'Do you know how scared I was?' he continued when she continue to stare with a mute smile
'Sam I was such a fool to run after a woman who already knows how to love herself, I should have focused on loving a woman who needs to learn how to love herself. Will you help me teach my woman that, so she ends up loving me more than herself and I love her more than the depth of this world' he sincerely asked taking her rough hands into his
'And what about our child?' she asked with a beautiful smile
'Well we might just have to share that love' he stepped closer kissing her forehead in a promise, his life was now named after Sameer and their child, and forever it shall remain like that.
'Geet that..'
'It's true Maan, each word I said was true' Geet confessed, although she said everything in the spur of the moment but it was the truth and she couldn't afford to lie now, nor did she want to.
'How did I fall lucky?' he asked taking her into his arms while she looked confused, didn't everyone want to be loved to the extreme
'Lucky?' she questioned with a puzzled look smiling against his thumb that pressed against the corner of her lips
'Yes so very lucky, you gave me a chance despite everything I did so the least I should do is compensate some space in your heart for our future child and as for yourself then you deserve all the love, be it from yourself, your family or me. My heart only belongs to you, treat it as you may!' he confessed with a sloppy grin at the end moving closer to seal a kiss when she moved back giggling.
'We're at the hospital Maan' she reminded linking her arm with his and then directed towards the exit until he stopped them and moved to a different ward
'Vicky and Meera met with an accident' he informed without turning towards her as she gasped in shock.
