Chapter 123

Revelations and liberation

Tia had wanted to convert her startup account in Prestige bank of India to Corporate Business select account. This would have given Ktech greater flexibility with lowest interest rates in overdrafts, better loan opportunities, and access to the treasury of major international currencies. In short, it would have made business more accessible and more comfortable for her. That account was only available to people who had an Elite personal account in Prestige bank, which meant they always maintained a balance of 5 crores in their account. Shivay had got the Ktech account converted using his personal credentials. Ktech only had four directors, Tia, Romi, Shivay, and Mrs. Kapoor, now that account was being used to divert money throughout the world. In short, it had become money laundering account. Shivay and received notice from the authorities to show all the details associated with the transactions..
"Where did she get this much money from? Om could never understand how money worked.
"The issue is not where did she get this money from in her account? It is clear it is not clean money, and it will be traced back to money laundering rings. The greater issue is her business account is associated with me, it means that we are being dragged into this racket. Shivay had always been so careful in his dealings with anyone, what then was the reason behind his careless interactions with Tia he will never be able to find out.
"Do you guys think she had hypnotized me? He asked Om and Rudra.
"I cannot say about hypnosis, but I think you saw somewhat of mom in her. The way she carries herself is quite similar to mom. You admired her for her intelligence and business acumen.
"HuH!! Business acumen O' all that turned out be merely a faced to allure bhaiya in.
"The point is Rudy that I was allured into it. There was a knock on the door.
"Aa jao Anika."come in Anika."
:
Shivay called out to her; he never needed physical confirmation of her presence when she was around her.
"Bhaiya aapko kaise pata Anika bhabhi hain?
"How did you know it was Anika Bhabhi?"

Rudy asked confused at this weird way of perceiving each other they exhibited. Thankfully Shivay never got an opportunity of answering Rudra because he did not have an answer, Anika entered to Shivay's relief, and Om and Rudra laughed at Shivay's accurate acknowledgment.
"We will take your leave Om said moving out. When Neil comes, I will send him in.
"Anika I have called you here to reveal why I transferred my more than fifty percent movable and immovable assets in your name including cash. Shivay started without any preface and Anika was stunned. Unfortunately, Shivay never failed to shock her no matter how hard she calculated all the possible strokes and readied herself for them he came up with something she could never foresee.

"Anika, do you remember I had said you were doing us a lifelong service? Anika nodded mechanically still unsure where Shivay was headed to.
Anika, Tia and I had a joint corporate account which has shown a lot of activity of late. Let's say that activity is associated with money laundering. He waited for any sign of understanding of that term from her. When she appeared numb Shivay moved close to her.

"I am not involved in all this Anika I hope you know that. He looked at her hopefully and nervously at the same time.
"I do. She replied without taking another second; I guess I understand why you transferred your assets to my name now.
"You do? It was his turn to be surprised by her ability to connect the dots. This thing of the contract won't be hidden for long. He needed to resolve this also sooner than he thought.
"Are your accounts entailed already?
"Not yet but they would soon be.
"What about the corporate accounts? She looked concerned, and Shivay did not know how to thank the Gods for delivering him from an Evil and bringing him to Anika.
"I was associated with Tia's account in a personal capacity, not corporate capacity. Oberoi industries have invested in Tia's company but only through shares, not through joint accounts.
"As long as our marriage is a secret my shares remain accessible to us even if your accounts are blocked for a while. Khurana's know that I am your wife.
"There is no evidence, No pictures revealed to the public, no guests other than Samar, our marriage is not registered, yet? He had paused for a few seconds before adding a yet to the sentence and that, cautioned Anika. A registration of the marriage would make it as official as Oberoi Industries was. Did he plan to do so before eight weeks, then what would the contract mean? Shivay knew what was going on in her mind; he held her face in his palm.
"One step at a time Anika. He said bringing her fast pacing mind to a halt.
"Can I ask you for one thing Shivay I will never ask anything again I promise. She begged, and it broke Shivay into a million pieces. Anika had the ability to break him and build him again and again. Emboldened by his reflective silence, she spoke timidly.
"Can you let me sign a Power of Attorney in your name, please. You can always keep it a secret.
"Neil will be here any minute with the document, and you can sign it. From now on Anika, you are merely a custodian of my hard earned wealth not an owner. I hope that liberates you of your anguish somewhat. Anika could merely nod in acquiescence too overwhelmed to say anything, so much of trust, so much of faith, why? How? When? Did she acquire? Shivay could see respite written all over her face. The air around her felt light and soothing; it appeared as if she could breathe again. Anika knew she might not have taken the responsibility of all that Shivay had cast on her, but still, she could not understand why he needed to marry her.
"One step at a time Anika. She repeated his words to herself. There was a knock on their door and Om came in with Neil. Neil read out the terms of the Power Of Attorney. She looked at Shivay before signing on the dotted lines with a dot of her own to punctuate her given name, Anika.
"Why do you always put a full stop after your name Anika? Shivay was intrigued by her peculiar signature.
"It reminds me and everyone else dealing with me that my name ends at that, just Anika. She told Shivay with a humble smile, without any extra air or flair. She was a self-made woman, who rose above all biases of gender, caste, society, class, and even past, present, and future. Shivay held the heavy ornate door of the Library for her chivalrously and indulgently. She belonged to him, and that thought invoked a sense of pride in him.
"I am leaving for Singapore tomorrow. I Will be back in a couple of days. He told her as he walked with her in the corridors leading to the staircase. It was nearly dinner time, and he had left a note on the fridge asking all ladies to stay out. Anika was surprised at this bit of information; he chose to tell her about his whereabouts. She wondered what a girl would have said when her husband told her of some trip.
Take me along...how funny, then come soon...he anyways does not like to stay away from home so he will come back as soon as his work is done, then why is he going...isko kehtey hain ungli pakadao to pahuncha pakad le banda. He will never tell me why he is going. She said to her errant heart that had suddenly found another reason to be happy.
"I have some important unfinished business there. I will tell you about it when I come back.
Something was evidently wrong with Shivay, Anika first touched his forehead and then his neck with the back of her hand to see if he had a fever.
"Aap theek hain Shivay?
"Are you all right Shivay?"
She asked concerned, her eyes acquiring that kawai look that undid Shivay in ways more than one. Shivay had been a man of firm resolution, a woman clad in skimpiest of outfits did not deter his self-control by even a dot, but Anika sent his hormones into nearly an uncontrolled frenzy by those cute, silly faces that she made at the drop of hat. That coupled with her tender touch laced with concern, it took all of Shivay's self-control not to throw her on his shoulders and dump her in their bed before ravishing her till she forgot everything else and remembered only him and his name. Anika could now associate the various colors of his eyes with his thoughts, she saw Gauri approaching them and took that as an opportunity to escape from his scandalous glare.
"Gauri tu kahan gayab thi din bhar?
"Gauri where were you all day?"

She asked walking towards her leaving Shivay to his vices. Shivay cast a knowing glance at Anika and chuckled before looking towards a somewhat subdued Gauri; he knew instantly that Om had taken his hint and had tried to reign in Gauri's uncontrollable blast of energy. Anika had left him an accusatory message of how he had made a fool out of her for everyone to laugh at. This was not his intention it had spiraled out of his hands not only because of Gauri but also because of Anika. He had talked to her about this in the afternoon, making her realize the importance of keeping cool and not losing her mind for anything and everything that happened. She could have waited for him to come back before including others in her unrequired frenzied search. She had overreacted, and that was the reason for all that had happened in the afternoon. /

Chapter 124

A solemn Promise

It was hardly One Am when Anika's woke up with all the movement in the room. She opened her eyes and found Shivay all dressed up in some nautical uniform ready to leave. She jerked herself out of slumber.

"Why are you up so early? She recalled sleeping just a couple of hour back after being victorious in the last round of argument with Shivay. He was ridiculously insistent on her sleeping without a top tonight also, and she did not.

"Keep this. He threw the keys of his safe to her without answering her question still upset by his defeat. He told her there was cash in the safe just in case if she needed.

"I have money sufficient for me. She said trying to wriggle her way out of the keys.

"Anika, will you ever use your mind for a change? I make the payments for almost everything in this house. It is nearly the end of the month what if the household needs something urgently if there is a need for some emergency repairs. It is not always about you.

"I did not mean to say that, but who managed all this when I was not there? Talk of using mind and she used it first thing with Shivay.

"Mom did, she asked me to give it to you. He said frustrated by her nagging. He disliked it when she behaved like a wife and yet he wanted her to act like one. Anika understood what Pinky was trying to do, and there was no way of doing things any other way but Pinky's. Anika saw Shivay struggle with his coat, and she got up to help him with it.

"What are you wearing? She asked trying to sound unaffected and neutral when her curiosity was at its peak.

"A pilots uniform.

"Pilot? Are you going to drive, no-fly a plane? She sounded anxious. She was already not very comfortable with his flying his chopper which you can call a helicopter also.

"You forget I am a pilot at Oberoi Airlines. Priyanka had told her so when Shivay had picked them up from Delhi.

"But flying is not your job! Don't you have something more important to do? Let those who can really fly the plane do this. Har cheez mein tang adani hai.

"Tang what?

"Forget about tang first tell me why do you have to fly an aircraft. Is your copper not enough?

"I want to, that is why. He said nonchalantly sitting on the ottoman and tying his shoe laces.

"Shivay Singh Oberoi and his big capital I is the only answer he has to every question I ask.

"Anika, what is wrong with you? I have done it a lot of times. This is not the first time I will pilot a passenger flight. He was unable to understand the reason for her sudden outburst. She looked so anxious that Shivay felt concerned.

"Is there a problem Anika? He forgot his irritation about last night and came close to her, startled by her brimming eyes.

"Haan hai... I am not comfortable with you flying a plane. She said almost choking on her sob.

"Why?He still could not understand the reason for her discomfort.

"You are a businessman aren't you? Flying a plane is not your job, what if something goes wrong?

"You are concerned about me? He asked, her outburst making sense now. A hope for future replaced confusion. Till date whenever he went out on any venture what he got from his family was their encouragement and their confidence in him. Rarely was anyone worried about him, how far his attempts would take a toll on him. He was not complaining about his family he cherished and loved them to the level of fault. He just wanted to enjoy this new feeling of concern and doubt, the lack of surety in Anika gave him a high.

"I am not concerned about you. I am concerned about so many other people. She said obstinately turning away from him to hide her face that revealed what she was trying to conceal.

"All right just so that you know I am not a fighter pilot, I am not going to a war. I am just a commercial Pilot. Flying a plane is just like driving a car, with training. I have been a pilot all my life Anika, and I am not the only businessman who can fly planes. There are a lot of business men, politicians, actors who were certified pilots. Rajiv Gandhi was a pilot; there are many others. It's not some out of the world feat to achieve, Samar and I had completed our commercial pilot training together.

"No!

"Looks like you don't know much about him.

He winked at her before grabbing his black cap that carried the Oberoi insignia. He took out the wing pin from his coat, and pinned it up at the t-shirt that she wore, while she stared at him enchanted by his appearance. His knuckles brushed her soft mound for a fraction of a second. He would have loved to dwell in her softness a little longer, but he reminded himself of his promise and placed a chaste kiss on her forehead before moving out. A delicate tug at his sleeve stopped him, and he looked down to locate the source of that unsure pull.

"Had to be your bracelet.

Shivay passed her a boyish lopsided grin. She closed her eyes, to let his youthful image to burnish on her memory forever. Shivay had unrestrained himself from those dangling chains, but the dreamy tranquility that mirrored in her appearance caught his attention.

"You want to say something Anika?

He held her hand in his with great care and spoke as softly as he could fearful of breaking her peaceful envisage. Anika looked back into his forever curious gaze and then looked away to hide her smile, or he would think she was mocking him. He was right she had so many thoughts occupying her mind at all times, and she wanted to share them with him. They were all about him, conflicting contradictory and confusing.

"Bolo na.

His hold tightened on her hand as he urged her to reveal to him what she was thinking.

"You look dapper and stately.

She mumbled waiting for him to mock away her compliment in his laughter. After all, such compliments must be making their way to him at the rate of a million a day, some to win over his favorable glance, some to display the envy of colleagues and some with admiration, what made her so enamored by him she wondered. Shivay admired her downcast eyes. If she was shy complimenting him how would she feel if he told her that when he looked stately, she looked divine. He belonged to this world and she to the other, sinless and holy. He pulled her unsuspecting body into a gentle hug and in those few moments he promised himself to her wholly and unconditionally.

"When I come back I will have something very special for you. I promise.

Rudra was waiting for him in the living room. Anika learned then that Rudra was also accompanying him to Singapore. His promise had a distinct solemnity to it, something about him was endearingly different, and Anika inadvertently crossed her fingers for his safe and successful trip.

Chapter 125
A road block.

Ranveer with two other officers undercover had joined him at the airport. Shivay had been able to secure the website jam because he had finalized an underhand deal for accused exchange between Singapore and India. A long time wanted the leader of organ theft racket KesarPal had taken refuge in Singapore after his extradition plea had been allowed in the Phillipines. The man was wanted in the 12-year-old serial killing case, in which 20 children were bellonging to various slums, and lower income group families had been abducted and killed. Their organs were sold in black market. Singapore had strict laws in place to fight drug trafficking, but the police there had been unable to get a breakthrough in Van Nguyen's drug ring. Samaksha had nexus with this leading local drug cartel. Ranveer had compiled all the evidence against Samaksh that would help the Singapore police to build a foolproof case against him as well as their local drug lord Van Ngyuen. Ranveer had information that Samaksh was carrying 400 gms of Meth 12 times the minimum amount at which Singapore executed the traffickers in this trip. Ranveer had also learned that the model Geetanjali whose apartment Samaksh had used to record the helipad activities of Shivay's house was actually in Singapore prison facing trial for drug trafficking. The prosecution was going to seek her execution which was the maximum penalty for the amount of crack that was found in her vanity box.
Samaksh had forced her into this business by keeping her brother and mother captive. Who were later on murdered by his men to avoid the risk of getting caught? Samaksh was to fly in Indian airlines, but as per the plan between the government and Shivay, Samaksha's flight was canceled, and the passengers were given discount codes, or adjusted in other flights, depending on what they chose. Knowing the urgency of Samaksha's trip, Ranveer was sure that Samaksha would decide to be fixed on another plane. The only option available was Oberoi Airlines Flight Number SI 0380, captained by Shivay. Only that Samaksha had no clue of what was going on. He had first class tickets whereas Ranveer, Rudra, and others were traveling in economy and Shivay in the cockpit. Their cover remained intact through the flight. Ranveer had tried to reason with Shivay a lot, but he was hell-bent to see this through personally. Nothing Ranveer said or did, sway Shivay from his mission.
"Your brother is incorrigibly in love with Anika Bhabhi. He did not need to come to the fore with these scoundrels in play Rudra. It is not safe, but he is just not ready to listen. Rudra had merely nodded because if you told this to Shivay, he would have laughed at the word love. The world could see, but both the people who were in love were just not ready to acknowledge their mutual affinity.
"We will be taking the emergency exit at the other end Rudra, Ranveer told Rudy as the plane landed smoothly on the runway. The main exit opened up in the terminal while a mechanical staircase connected the rear end exit to the tarmac. All the announcements were made by the First flight officer instead of Shivay without ever disclosing his full name. This was the norm for Shivay when he captained a flight. He was always referred to as Shivay Singh. The flight attendants that served in the cockpit and the first officer were amongst the few that knew his real identity. Shivay exited after the crew at last with first officer Chaitanya Ranawat. Rudra was waiting for Shivay in the lounge while Ranveer and other officers had joined the Singapore police squad to finish the paperwork. There was a lot of extra security that day. While mostly everything was automated at the high-end Changi Airport, occasional frisking and dog squad was also a norm. Shivay had joined the customs officials at the airport in their control room, while people qued up for security check. Shivay Ranveer and others in their group could track Smaksha on the CCTV. The way Shivay focused on Samaksha, Ranveer had to snap in front of him to break his concentration.
"Things will work out Shivay. He told him without a smile. The external affairs ministry and the Consul General of Singapore had exerted their weights as discreetly as they could to get Shivay and Rudra a viewing of Smaksha's arrest and his investigation interview. Shivay took a deep breath as Samaksha was second to be scanned and frisked in the queue. As the woman in front of him left the security check clean, with her baggage, it was Samaksha's turn to enter the body scanner. When he escaped the scanner without being picked up, Shivay felt his grip loosening on the situation and an image of Samaksha pulling at Anika's hair ruthlessly coursed through his thoughts.
"I am sure he has body packed Meth. Ranveer too saw the entire plan falling apart, so he spoke to the officer on watch, who did not even as much as acknowledge Ranveer's information.
"Ranveer something is wrong. Shivay was getting anxious because Samaksh could not be picked either by a metal detector or organic material detector. Samaksha had concealed the drugs very well, and he would have escaped from the airport, but right in time, Ranveer contacted the Director of Police intelligence department, Singapore, David Lee Forman. Samaksha was apprehended up by investigation and intelligence department. While Ranveer and his convoy followed Samaksha in the police vehicle, Shivay and Rudra had to go to their hotel. The Airport security was unable to find meth in his belongings or on his person, so they had to let him go Samaksha was continually arguing with the police.
Once Samaksha was brought in for interrogation he was kept in isolation with detectives observing him on closed-circuit camera. They were playing mind games with him. He remained passive for about forty-five minutes. Slowly the blankness of the room coupled with the uncertainty of the situation started getting on his nerves. He got up to walk across the room, trying to look out of the one-way mirror glass window but he saw no one outside.
"You cannot hold me here forever. I want consular access! He spoke chewing on words into the window well aware that there had to be someone on the other side observing him. His entire baggage was there with him. He came and sat back on the steel chair entwining his fingers together he rubbed his hands together while he gently rocked himself.
" Hush hushhh hushhh. Every other hush he uttered was longer than the previous one; he kept chanting the word till he got a grip on himself. Director Forman was observing him keenly, while going through the evidence given by Indian government. They had been given information about him by their Indian counterparts just forty-eight hours ago, but his nexus with Singapore drug cartel was still unproven.
"Neither the dogs, nor the organic material detector, nor metal detectors nor the body scanners could locate even a molecule of a drug on him. Geetanjali has also not given out his name. We don't have anything on him in this country Ranveer.
. "Director this is not possible. I have given you the evidence of his links with one of the biggest drug lords here. He was bringing in Meth for these guys. The girl Geetanjali was associated with him.
"I get it, but she has not named him anywhere.
"I think you got over enthusiastic with your private agenda associated with Oberois. The director knew about Oberois because Shivay had been granted special privileges to view his arrest and investigation at the airport.
"I see that there is a civil suit going on between his pharmaceutical corporation and Oberois. You are wasting our time. Now coming to assisting you with extradition, there is no case of exchange of intel anymore. He is of no use to us why would we cut corners for someone who has done nothing wrong on our turf. We will send a recommendation to your Government to file for proper extradition for Kesarpal. I have an important meeting. I will be back with required documents in a couple of hours. He told Ranveer and asked his officers to hold Samaksh in isolation for another couple of hours till all the paperwork was clear.
"How long can you hold him, director? Ranveer was thinking of Shivay.
"A few hours at the max. This was a diplomatic lead which turned cold; we cannot let him go without proper documentation. You are free to wait for me here or you can come back after a few hours.
"I will be back in a couple of hours. Can you hold him till then He asked the director earnestly.
"All right if you can get us something in another couple of hours we will hold him back, but no more than five hours.
Ranveer requested a copy of the transcript of the verbal exchange between Samaksha and airport security earlier on his arrival. When Ranveer called Shivay, he told him the entire issue. Shivay took every thing in his stride calmly, after disconnecting the call he said to Rudra that the time for plan B was here.
"Plan B bhaiya? Rudra somehow did not like the icy tinge in his tone.
"I have arranged for snipe shooters to get him murdered. As long as he lives, he will not let Anika live. Shivay said resolutely.
"Bhaiya are you crazy. I mean I would have loved to tell you that you are crazy in love with Anika Bhabhi but this is getting altogether on another level. Rudra panicked, and Shivay looked at him amused.
"I am arranging for your departure back to India, and I will come when I see him dead not before that.
"Bhaiya this is madness.
"I would have done the same for Priyanka, Gauri or Saumya. Anika is my family if someone attacks my family, I don't let them live. Rudra remembered the time when the bouncers in a nightclub had hurt him. Shivay did not sit peacefully till he got the nightclub closed for good and the owner arrested in charge of tax evasions. He clasped his head in his hands that was still within the periphery of law, but this was getting out of hand. Rudra needed to think, so he asked Shivay to have lunch before proceeding ahead with this perilous scheme.
"Ishq mein log bawle hotey hain yeh special hain James Bond banane chale hain. He murmured to himself picking up the intercom to order food. Shivay's mind was working fast. He had already called Neil and asked him to come over. He ate with such voracity as if the food was providing him with some untold strength. Ranveer called Rudra; he wanted to meet Shivay. Rudra was taking his own sweet time eating every bite at least ten minutes apart trying to buy time for himself; he was interrupted by a knock on the door. Shivay opened the door to a somber and apologetic Ranveer. After minutes ticked away like eons, Shivay ultimately broke the apparently nonpermeable silence of the room.
"So he is here as a tourist?Shivay asked to find out what reason he had given for his visit to Singapore.
"No Shivay he has come with some samples of cough lozenges. It looks like Kurtz is launching some Pineapple and banana flavor lozenges here, and he has meetings set up with many departmental stores and pharmaceutical chains.
"Pineapple and Banana, that is an odd choice, Rudra said concentrating on his plate, unable to eat another morsel of food while Shivay looked at him wearing a fond smile.
"Why is it odd? Ranveer asked, and Shivay also looked at him curiously.
"Pineapple and banana are fruits that are known to cause a sore throat. There is no research to support them. Lozenges are usually in flavors of ginger, honey, or at the max citrus because there are some researches that prove, vitamin C is good for cold and cough. Citrus is vitamin C but pineapple and banana, that is weird. Rudra had been spending quite some time with Tej. Tej had always been into pharmaceuticals and Rudra had picked up on his interest.
"Interesting. Ranveer looked a little perplexed by this information.
"Did they take any clearance for this launch of medical supplement? Shivay too was confused with this piece of information that was shared by Rudra.
"Are they even in a position to launch anything new. They are sinking? Rudra asked to Shivay.
"Highly unlikely, something is amiss with these samples.
"Shivay nothing was detected they had opened one of his samples randomly and he ate 2 of the candies in it. The dogs also could not pick up anything with the candy. Shivay called back Neil and asked him to find if the Kurtz factories were into the production of any such candies. Neil got back to him after an hour confirming their suspicion. No clearances were taken for any such production or distribution either in India or Singapore. Ranveer looked for some cases of drug trafficking around the world to see if he could pick up on some clue.
"There are two things that I have come across one Meth can be trafficked in crystalline form. It is the latest fad among traffickers, and two Pineapple and banana smells send the dogs off track with their smelling ability.
"Ranveer sometimes in lozenges we have a silica gel pack to help with moisture issues. Rudra thought, but he was not so sure about it because they had information that Samaksha carried 400 gms of Meth. This could not be adjusted in those few grams of silica gel packs. A while later Om called Shivay. He had found out that the Director of intelligence and investigation had applied for his nephew to be enrolled in the clinical trial that Dr. Dhawan's team was conducting. As of now, the trial was not open to foreigners, and hence they had not accepted his application. Shivay had informed Om about the roadblock. Om had spent a lot of time studying automobiles in the Asia Pacific region. He had many deep-rooted contacts in the upper circuit of a government of Singapore and surrounding area.
"Ranveer call the Director of Investigation and intelligence. I might have some good news for him. Shivay suddenly saw the light at the end of the tunnel. They needed time to get info about Samaksha, and they got it. Ranveer did not think it was a good idea, but in these past few months of his interaction with Shivay, he had come to depend on Shivay's instincts and his ability to negotiate with people. He always did so with great panache and never lost his bid. Ranveer knew what kind an intelligence, insight, and courage it took to maneuver oneself in the galleries of corporate politics. Shivay could deal with anything with a cold and calculative approach, nothing was beyond his reach, if he set his intention at it. He passed on the phone to Shivay once Mr. Forman was on call.

"Glad to make acquaintance with you Mr. Forman. Though we will leave disappointed in your investigative skills, we would still like to extend a very personal assistance to you.
"I am unable to understand what you are trying to get at Mr. Oberoi. Please come to the point I am an impatient man.

"Mr. Forman patience is not my virtue at all, but I thought I would let you know that Oro Pharmaceutical which happens to be a baby corporation under Oberois is taking over the clinical trial of the medicine for Glioblastoma Multiforme. I thought it might be of interest to you. Ranveer and Rudra looked at Shivay as if he had grown a unicorn's horn on his head.
"How is this going to be of any use to Mr. Forman? Rudra whispered to him, and Ranveer shrugged his shoulders to convey his ignorance. When Shivay got off the phone, he was once again the sharp and shrewd Singh Oberoi. That forlorn and defeated look was replaced with a devious smile.
"Let's go, Rudy, we meet the director in fifteen minutes.
Ranveer knew it without any doubt that Shivay won't leave Singapore without seeing Samar on Death row or better still done away with in some crime infested back alley. He had been working in law enforcement for quite some time now and knew first hand that business, politics, corruption all worked in the loop trying to ouster the other, but it was always a matter of time before one was outsmarted by other. The cycle just went on endlessly.

Chapter 126
The beginning of the great fall.

Shivay stood on the other side of the glass window observing a tried and clueless Samaksha. He had been hitting on the window time and again. A slight bulge was visible on both his hands and elbows.

"I want this man to suffer the worst kind of agony ever He whispered vehemence to Forman.
"This cannot be business Oberoi; it has got to be personal. Whom did he target your sister?
"I would have let every drop of blood out of his body with a perfectly incised slit in his throat had he even dared to as much as glance at my sister.
"Is law enforcement a joke in your country?
"Do you want to discuss the situation about law and order here?
The way Shivay replied forwarned Forman not to incite him any further. He had looked into Oberois and understood that they were no little bird in the Sky. Currently listed as the wealthiest industrial organization in Asia, Oberois enjoyed a special status in entire Asia.

"Send Lee in, to question him, Forman ordered one of his notorious junior officer, known for her great tactical and intelligent interrogation techniques.

"You are about to witness some fascinating interaction, Oberoi. Forman looked at his junior with pride as she landed on her face first in the room where Samaksha was detained. Shivay took a step back from the glass window as if she had landed straight on him. He glared at Forman uncertain of what was going on.

"This is called a cookie, tea and honey method of interrogation Shivay and it is the best way to extract information from anyone, Ranveer told Shivay while Lee wiped the fake blood from her purple nose. A latex cut under her eye made her face look beaten up. A bustier revealing more than concealing, a bomber jacket on top and a tight leather pant riding at her lower hip, kohl spread around her eyes and a pierced upper lip and navel, she looked like a street side prostitute more than a cop.
"Does Bhavya use such antics and tactics?' Shivay asked Ranveer.
"Bhavya is in a different league she does not interrogate criminals she investigates white collared crimes more than red crimes, though they keep overlapping time and again, Ranveer answered with a straight face.
Lee had now taken the corner in the room and was wiping her nose with her sleeves. She had Samaksha's entire attention. After quite some time spent in sniffing and adjusting her scanty attire, she cast a lustful glance on Samaksha, biting her lower lip she puckered them up suggestively while she twisted her upper body indecently. Shivay had to control his every muscle to not throw up. He did not understand how could someone find all this attractive.
"People like samaksha have a very perverse idea of women, and she is using it to her advantage Shivay.
"That is a very high level of dedication to work Ranveer, Shivay said looking at her in utter shock.
Samaksha had taken the bait and was now more relaxed and talking to her. She told him she was brought in to say about her Pimp as she had been selling her services in a cheap alleyway motel. Walking up to the table and taking off her jacket she left it near Samaksh on the table. It had a message from Van Nguyen the drug cartel Lord. It carried his crest which was a secret but Ranveer had found it, and its image was in the Dossier that he had compiled for the Singapore police.
"How come they did not have all these information before?
"Van is an Australian and has recently started operating in Singapore. Only about a couple of years old here.
"How did you get hold of such information?
I have my methods. Ranveer replied to Shivay with a crooked smile. He sure was going to achieve heights in the bureaucratic circle of India. Shivay was sure of that. After a few minutes, Lee was dragged out of the cell leaving Samaksha behind. She took a few more minutes before she appeared back looking clean and sober. The change was so profound that Shivay was shaken to his core, feeling belittled by what people did to keep their surroundings safe. She told her superiors that Samaksha had packed Meth in crystal form in between the two layers of the plastic bag that carried the pineapple and banana candy. Every packet had 12 grams of Meth.
"He has smuggled 480 gms of meth in Singapore 12 times of the amount needed for capital punishment. She stared at Forman waiting for her next order.
"I am waiting on information from Internal security to see if we have any recent intel on Van.
Forman said to no one in particular.
"He said he is to meet Van after three days, Lee said pointing to the room Samaksha was in.
Forman knew they could not wait for three days to arrest Van and they now needed to let this interrogation take a sour route to make Samaksha comply with them. One of the officers that had come with Ranveer doubled up as a consul representative from the Indian high commission and entered Smaksha's room with Forman and another junior officer. The junior officer opened his luggage and took out one of the bags of lozenge and ripped it apart in front of him. Tiny white translucent round crystals rolled onto the floor and got lodged in every crevice of the flooring. Forman was not a tiny man by any means and this time he looked even more daunting and menacing, sitting there in front of an incredibly nervous Samaksha. He could see the noose, gallows and the hangman quite vividly.
"We use long drop. Given your height and weight, we will drop you with a force of a few newtons about 8-10 feet. Hoping that you are lucky, you will pass out in a few minutes, but we secretly prefer a good hang. Where the death is gruesome and slow enough to inflict intolerable pain to your head as your brain swells, to your lungs as it collapses due to lack of oxygen and carotid artery in neck slowly constricts. The convict feels the grip of every fiber of the hanging cord as it digs into the skin deeper and deeper. In my experience, it takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes to die of suffocation. Forman said placing his cold hand on Samaksha's neck, or he felt it cold is something that will be a subject of debates.
"Sir, don't we give a damn about international relations and human rights? The junior officer asked the question that usually rose in every detainee's mind.
"No Yuan but sometimes you know we do discreetly care for human rights, and we give instant death to our detainees. How about I make you swallow 1/10th of your meth, looks like it is of top quality. This was enough to bring Samaksha to his knees, he was unable to find his voice, and even without a gag, all that could be heard was gurgling sound from his throat. Shivay and Ranveer were viewing the interrogation in a state of trance. Ranveer fascinated by the Singapore police's interrogation tactics and Shivay feeling satisfied as he replayed Anika's soundless pleas soaked in agony as Samaksh tasered her now and then to make her crawl faster.
"Smack The sound reverberated in Shivay's ears as Forman hit Smaksha squarely in his face and he spewed blood on the floor. Ranveer looked at Shivay's meditative countenance, a wave of dread coursed through his body. He was a formidable foe, and God save the person who ever dared to rile Shivay up. His green eyes never blinked for a minute.

Samaksha was now trembling as the picture of his impending hanging was vividly detailed to him. The death penalty was a certainty in this case. Could there be an escape he looked pleadingly at the only Indian present there assuming him to be the consular representative that he sought?
"Tell them everything that you can, maybe you will be treated as an exception if they get sufficient information from you. The Indian officer acting as Consular representative suggested. Smaksha was required to choose between the devil and deep sea. Either way, his end was imminent, fear of death humbles even the greatest of warriors he was but a coward. "Even in the face of peril, his Anika had held on to her dignity and courage, unlike this coward."
He mumbled to Rudra who chose to sit away from all that was going on. He could never watch violence in movies this was real life. Samaksha finally chose the deep sea and revealed everything he knew about Van Nguyen without taking a breath. As he finished his verbal throw up, Forman kicked the chair he was sitting on, and he went flying to the other corner of the room along with the chair. Forman ordered his junior to book him under Misuse of drugs act in Singapore. Police along with internal security had decided that they would use Samaksha as bait to allure Van in a trap. A microchip was inserted in his upper arm after giving him a surgical incision without anesthesia. His screams were a balm to Shivay's ears. He was told the plan in detail.
He was released in a crowded street near Changi Airport in a private vehicle. He had called his handler who was supposed to take him to meet Van 3 days later. Shivay was back in his hotel with Rudra while Ranveer along with two of his subordinates had gone to discuss the pickup of Kesarpal In detail. This would be a significant achievement on his roll. Shivay looked at his phone wistfully, yearning to know if she was alright. He had endured her moans and whines of pain and fear most of the nights after she came back home from the hospital. During the day she kept up a cheerful faade, but at night under the influence of drugs that faade crumbled and Shivay felt like an utter failure, no matter how many times he wiped her stray tear, they kept escaping her half-open eyes now and then. He had to loosen her grip on the comforter many times at the night which she clutched on to as she fought her nightmares. While she slept fitfully combating her fears, he slept in shot spells too trying to make her comfortable. At least during the nights, he could help her because during the day she remained as aloof and unreachable from him as Sun did from the darkness. He had seen a glimpse of old Anika just for a few short moments before he came here. He wanted to kick himself for being rude to her yet again when she had denied the keys to his safe. He searched through the bulk of messages for her message, hoping that she would be missing him as much as he missed her but she had not sent him a single syllable, either in the mail or on SMS. He switched off his phone a little upset and went off to sleep.

Chapter 127
The monstrous end.

In these three days, there had been a high-level international Intel exchange between India, Australia, and Singapore. The internal Security had zeroed in on five locations where they suspected Van to be hiding to be holding his fort and business. All of them were in different parts of Singapore and quite far away from each other. Ranveer had worked his soul off using every resource that he had, to gather information about Van Nguyen. The Inland security with the police had worked discreetly and feverishly to set up a trap for Van. They had simultaneously raided the five locations that they suspected they could find Van in. They found him in none of the sites. Forman had headed the raid with Lee and a couple of more of his able officers on the sixth location in Changi based on Lee's investigation. Call it sheer luck or a calculated move they were successful in catching Van here. The hunt over, Forman was all set to book Samaksha with charges and let his trial begin. He was sure that they had more than enough evidence to secure his death sentence. Shivay was on a foreign land and did not want to mess with the law, so he reluctantly let go. It was like an anticlimax for him. The thirst to confront Smaksha and see him suffer the same agony that Anika had endured was left unquenched. Shivay was ready to retreat and had confronted Samaksha one last time to achieve some closure but that idiot still unaware that the police had busted the entire ring went ahead and riled Shivay further revealing how he had found out about his marriage.

"Anika is not my class Shivay, but your sister is, I was after her this time, Following her from the day I learned you were after our company. Daksha would have married her right under your nose. I got her phone fixed. She was talking to Rudra about her dear Anika Bhabhi missing since morning, and your mother concerned looking for her. I just could not control my self from getting rid of that nameless bitch from the family that I intended to associate with. He said in a state of euphoria probably, because otherwise, he wouldn't have dared to take Priyanka and Anika's name in the same sentence. Both his heart and soul were under attack, and he did not know a thing about it. He left him talking and screaming in that small room on the floor in custody. He remembered Priyanka complaining about some issue on her phone that she got repaired. He did not waste time and pulled as many strings as he could, determined to do whatever it took to see Samaksh's suffer every assault that Anika suffered. Ranveer called Bhavya to take every electronic gadget that Khurana's have in custody without a warrant. One of his officers brought Daksha in for interrogation, getting three days judicial remand later on.
. Oberoi Industries had taken over the project of replacing the power cables in Singapore in collaboration with Singapore Power Corporation. Neil had joined them already. They had estimated a net profit of one billion dollars in this entire deal. Shivay decided of letting go of half of his profit in Singapore Government's favor, getting the proposal approved by the board of directors was not easy, but Tej secured him their approval. The Deputy Prime minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies was an Indian by Origin, and Shivay had met him before on three occasions and enjoyed a good rapport with him. Securing an impromptu meeting was not a difficult job.
"Mr. Oberoi since you are ready to let go such huge chunk of your profit in our favor we will allow you some slack this time. Mr. Forman will coordinate with you and the Indian Officials. The person in question will only be available for physical interrogation up to 2nd degree. Indian officers cannot inflict a fatal injury on him, and he will still go for trial without any further interference from your side. I hope you can resolve whatever deadlock there is between you and Kurtz. Shivay had taken the pretext of some chemical sabotage from Khurana's which could cost many lives in India. Ranveer had supported his claim by producing a copy FIR. So many FIRs were filed every day and also quashed, so while that could make an excellent document to support their claims, in the end, it was just that a paper that could be thrown out of the window when needed.

"Mr. Ganeshan that would be more than enough for me. Shivay took his leave. Along with Ranveer, he rolled his plan into action.

Samaksha stood with the handler in the courtyard of an old but under repair building close to the beach.
This was the very spot where Forman and his team had conducted a raid a day before.
The sun was slowly dipping itself into the deep abyss of the sea to allow the people seek their rest for the day. He tried to stand tall pulling himself to his full height, but he had lost all his steam. Knowing fully well that the police was also everywhere around him he prayed for an easy end. The horrid description of the hanging had left him wanting a simple gunshot in his head. He still was unaware that the handler was a police stooge now and Van was arrested.
"Will he come?He asked his handler timidly the short man just nodded.

Many restless minutes passed before a man in his late twenties came out and whispered something to the handler. He silently walked out leaving Samaksha in the courtyard. A wave of panic washed over him as he was left all alone, solitary in the small courtyard surrounded by two to three storied buildings in various stages of repair all around. The incessant hammering, swooshing, and mechanical sounds had slowly started to get on his nerves.
"Nyctophobia is what you suffer from don't you Anika? He remembered asking her holding her hair in a vicious grip. Everything around looked so similar, and a sudden realization dawned on him. Shivay, It had to be him who had brought this on him. His life started passing in front of him like a movie. His young days, when he had a very gripping need to hurt girls and take pleasure in it. How many daughters of his dad's friends had he terrorized would be difficult to put down in number. Alluring them and locking them up in his basement till they screamed their throats hoarse, recording their fear, their trepidation when they cried in solitude, no one to hear, no one to help, he had his secret library of girls ranging from 5-15 years. He had a particular dislike towards low born girls; he never targeted his maids or their daughters. To him they did not deserve to be living, a classist of the highest order, he was born skewed fitting the description of a sociopath to the T. This was the reason why he had not touched Anika sexually even though he had always felt a strange pull towards her. She was fearless, and so was Jalaja, that fateful night he had locked Jalaja in the storeroom of the basement with a dead snake. He had waited outside the storeroom to hear her scream and to have his share of fun setting two camera's in the dimly lit room. The resort belonged to a close friend of his father and his sons too took pleasure in these cruel tricks. When Jalaja was neither visible in the camera nor any sound was audible they had opened the door slightly and entered the store. To their horror, he was confronted by a fierce Jalaja who had managed to build a small fire at the far end of the store using broken legs of the chair and kerosene in the store. It was a store after all. She launched herself at him and his friends with a burning leg of a broken chair, the other boys had caved in immediately and begged for her pardon. Something had changed in Samaksha that day, as Jalaja huffed in anger charging at them fearlessly she instilled in him a strong desire to subdue her. The harder she roared, the more robust his resolve to break her became. The lights went away in that moment of deep reflection. It was getting darker, and he wanted to scream in fear, but that same fear gripped his throat and throttled him. All the sounds seemed to become louder. He strained his eyes trying to look around there was so much noise but not a single person visible, then every sound ceased altogether.
"Jalaja! he whispered into the air. A vision of her fighting him as he constrained her with the wire of the phone and then going limp, horrified him today but that day in the resort it had thrilled him. He collapsed to the ground and clutched his knees to his chest as Anika had done in the basement tired and defeated, but then he had tasered her yet again forcing her to crawl in another direction till she knocked her head on the washer. He felt a jolt of electricity in his groin, and he finally found his voice to howl and scream in pain.
"Shivay He called out and then dared him to fight fair like a man.
A wave of peace washed over Shivay as he howled his name again and again. Anika had called out to him in same fear, seeking strength from him while Samaksha lost his everytime he called out to Shivay. He got no response in return, only deafening silence. A dim light lit up the area, but one had to strain to be able to see. He stood up but no sooner had he achieved his full height someone hit him in his knees, and he was back on the ground. Too scared to get up he crawled searching for an exit, there were too many doors, but all of them were closed. He dragged himself to one of the doors, on coming closer to what he thought was the exit he stopped and supported himself on something that looked like a cylinder, but it was a concrete mixer which had just finished working and was hot. Samaksha bit onto his hand to prevent himself from howling in pain yet again, and tears rolled down his eyes freely.
"Bhaiya chaliye please.
"Bhaiya let us go please."
Rudra called out to Shivay breaking his introspection. There could be no end to this until he let go. A part of Shivay wanted to stay back and watch till Samaksha became nonexistent, but it did not give him peace anymore. It failed to soothe his hurting spirit. Priyanka's upturned face looking up at him with profound affection flashed his vision and the knowledge that she was safe gave him the much-needed respite. He turned his back to the scene in front.
"Let's go, Rudy. Rudra understood that Shivay was finally out of the vicious cycle of revenge that had gripped him since he had seen that video. He realized there was no end to retaliation as it failed to satiate one's desire for justice. Only Law taking its course and justice being served eventually could give a sense of closure. This was a short cut, and it would take away the satisfaction of the journey from him. He walked pensively out of the area letting police take over and do its job.
Shivay had withdrawn their claim from Kurtz in Singapore and as the news of Daksha's arrest in India on the pretext of attempted sabotage in Oro pharmacy and Samaksha's arrest in drug trafficking charges in Singapore spread, the stocks of Kurtz started plummeting down. Shakti and Tej began the takeover process by placing their bid openly. They had acquired 30 percent of Kurtz stocks already. Their proposed price was 15 percent higher than the market value. It gave stability to the downward trend while Oberois secured more shares from the market as well as won the more significant investors over. It took them two days to finish take over proceedings and gear up for a final takeover. Daksha was released from custody as Oberoi's FIR was quashed by the high court. Oberois themselves had retracted there complain stating that there had been a grave misunderstanding, what they had considered a sabotage was, in fact, a minor malfunction in their equipment. Daksha and Smaksha were ripped off everything they had. Rudra had traveled back while Shivay stayed in Singapore to witness arraignment proceeding of Samaksha Khurana. When the prosecution read the charges in court and sought for the death penalty, Shivay felt at peace with himself, but he got a real sense of closure when he was able to secure Geetanjali's release. The Indian government gave all the needed evidence to reveal her plight, and her lawyers pleaded successfully. Geetanjali was granted amnesty on humanitarian grounds.

It is rightly said that if an eye for an eye were a norm, we would have a world full of blind people. Letting go was not easy for Shivay but holding on to happier moments better suited him and his fragile heart.

With this chapter, we wind up Samaksha and wrapping up of Daksha also begins. I am really sorry for all the graphic details in these chapters. Do let me know your views please.

This was one of the most difficult chapters for me to write. When I had started this FF as a ss this was actually the base of that story. Things take their own shape most of the time, so did this story because of your love and appreciation. I did not know how to put it into words when I started and don't know how to do so now. What I had wanted to convey was the acute hurt and humiliation that people of the lower strata suffer which leaves them scarred for life. I have lived quite a lot of my life in Varanasi and I come across a myriad of social structures that leave me perplexed and confused. My mother's friend was an orphan otherwise a reasonably accomplished woman she did not marry because the boy whom she had admired in her college days had mocked her unknown antecedents. She had narrated the untoward accident to us once and when I watched the episode where Anika questioned Shivay why a surname was important. I was reminded of this conversation we had with my Masi ( as we fondly called her).

Chapter 128
Unwarranted yearnings

Shivay was in the cockpit once again and as he observed at the vast space beyond he felt one with it. Anika had asked him why he had to fly, the experience of being in control even in the daunting vastness and phenomenal mystery gave a pilot a thrill that is unparallel. Soaring above the horizon and being able to look at the setting sun and rising moon was like being one with nature itself. It was always rejuvenated him, the idea of being thirty-seven thousand feet above the sea level and at the mercy of nature was also cathartic. He observed a flock of birds making a V as they flew back to their nest it was as if life cheered him on his victory. He was happy to be returning to the place he called home full of whacky people, but every single one of them loved him in their way. He had realized that he was not a brute after all. He did have a heart somewhere, and it still pulsated with vigor and tenderness.
"Captain your Coffee. The flight attendant was about to go back but was surprised by his unusual request.
"Two cubes of sugar please Sonal. He did not want to come near anything that was bitter for next ten years. Sonal though surprised complied with his demand wordlessly. She had been with him on many flights when he traveled as a passenger, or he captained it as a pilot. She knew never to question a boss because bosses were always right. Putting the engine on autopilot after attaining a stable height, he relaxed into his chair sipping his sweet coffee, Anika style.
"Is kadwe zeher ko aap peetey kaise hain?
"How do you even swallow this bitter poison?

He heard her voice and looked around though sure she was not here, it was only her thoughts that occupied him.
"Today is first November? He sought confirmation from Chiatnya.

Kurtz would cease to exist tomorrow. He had asked Rudra to bring Anika and Priyanka to the office. Priyanka was anyways the nonexecutive director, and as such, she was always welcome in every directorial pursuit of Oberoi Industries.

He remembered the night when he found Anika without a top on their bed. Her wounds had caused mayhem on his senses. He found it very difficult to breathe as anger and disappointment held his ribcage hostage. By a sheer stroke of destiny, they had located her in time. Had she been left in that state of immobility for long she would have gone far beyond his reach. The mere thought had left him feeling cold and dead within. He had kissed her wrists tenderly, and she unexpectedly she opened her kawaii eyes glistening with an indistinguishable notion.
"You were there on the door earlier too. It was a straightforward statement, and Shivay did not see the need to contradict her.Her voice was raspy, had she been crying again? He wondered as he sat down next to her.
"You are not wearing anything? He failed miserably in his attempt to make her feel conscious.
"Yes the top, I can't seem to find it. He gently snubbed her attempt to get up pressing her face down onto the bed.
"Go off to sleep Anika. I did not intend to wake you up. She was taking Dopamine reuptake inhibitor temporarily. It fell in the category of narcotics and induced lightheadedness and was mood uplifting. She sounded drowsy and disconnected.

"Does it affect you? She asked emboldened by the drugs that were doing rounds in her circulatory system. It took him a moment to understand her question.
"Far more than I would care to admit. He had pulled the comforter on her more for his comfort than hers.
"But my low birth renders me unusable, isn't it? She successfully riled up every drop of blood that visited his heart. He was aware that she was not herself, someway or the other she ended up confused and inebriated in his presence and revealed to him her deepest darkest secrets, her hurting heart reached out to him seeking relief from the worlds constant onslaught.
"Anika you should sleep. you are saying things that you will regret later.
"Will I? She had asked unsure of her condition but very sure about her reality she reached out for his hair and he let her run her nimble fingers in it. There was complete silence, and her fingers had stopped stroking his scalp. He got up as obscurely as possible. Post Traumatic stress was messing with her ability to think. When he came back to her after taking a cold shower to contain his rising temper she was still sleeping soundly. He had to go through the accounts that Shakti had flagged as red. It was his joint account with Tia that was threatening him now, so he took his place close to her on the floor.

"You are cold. She woke up again her eyes marred by a flaming red labyrinth of veins. She forcefully kept her eyes open.

"I took a shower. He said placing his cold palm on her eyes and he could feel her relax. He ringed for house help and asked for an ice pack.

"Is it morning already?

"No, it is not He knew even in that delirious state she was concerned about the employees of the house.

"Sleep with me Shivay. She said timidly. He did not know what to make out of her request. Was there more to her words? Her burning eyes felt better with his touch; she dozed off momentarily giving in to the calm tranquility of his palm. Anika woke up when he tried to replace his skin with an ice pack. These days she slept in very shots spans for just a few minutes at times and never more than half an hour if long enough.

"I had tried to fight him Shivay, drag him away from her, but he had pushed me aside to attack her repeatedly. He told me that women like me were not even fit to live in his world let alone copulate. I was stunned by what he had said. His words echo in my mind always.
"He is a beast, Anika. Forget about him and shut up, just shut up. He said betrayed and disgusted by his kind.

"Daksha has a huge dog you know, he once released Beast' on me Shivay in the court premise, I remember wanting to run, but it was as if the ground held my foot. Tej uncle had intercepted his attack and brought him down before Daksha's guards could have taken him in control. Beast looks like a wild lion.

Shivay knew Tej had an innate ability to connect with animals. He seemed to understand their language way better than anyone he had ever known. He had once told them that he aspired to become a veterinarian. Anika had tried turning on her back, but he had stopped her. She was already hurting, and he did not want her to suffer any more pain.
"It is a Tibetan Mastiff a fierce guardian breed. Shivay had heard about this weird dog that Daksha Owned. He had been a talk in the upper circle. He was distracted by her finger strolling freely on his neck in circles, though today it did nothing to soothe his ruffled insides.
"Tell me Shivay do I repulse you? Shivay desperately wanted her to stop, but he allowed her to dunk years of bottled up misery into him hoping that she found her deliverance this way. He let her speak as he sat listening to her verbal assault on his senses.
"No. His answer was absolute, and it reached her heart.
"Really? He had nodded wordlessly while pouring himself into the account books, trying to hold onto something that he could connect with, the world that Anika had experienced was not the world he knew.
"Will you before the end of eight weeks copulate with me Shivay, once please. He had seen it coming, and her choice of words had lacerated him further into pieces, which he was sure Anika would have to pick up later. She had used words that came to her comfortably and helped her conceal her breaking heart and dwindling self-respect.
"Why are you doing this to yourself, Anika? You are going to hate these moments if you remember them. He said more to himself than to her.
"Shivay I want to experience all the fuss that surrounds this universal system of reproduction. She was walking on eggshells trying to avoid words that were personal and intimate and resorting to technical terms to cloak her internal conflicts.
"Eight weeks don't bother me, Anika. He tried to divert her fearful that she would read far too much and too soon.
"They don't? But I will leave once this contract is over. She said without thinking. The way she had worded her statement had caught Shivay off-guard. She had taken the task of abandoning the relationship on herself. She did not say he, would leave her.
"It is weird that I see rejection in all that has happened as a more hurtful thing than the act itself. Do you think something is wrong here Shivay? She poked her head harder than necessary as if she wanted to drill some sense into it. Shivay could see why Samar had warned him about Anika's frail psyche. The assault on her this time had taken a severe toll on her. All the hidden humiliations she had endured in her life from various people came forward and had pulverized all her intelligence into a giant mush.
She had spoken enough, and he had heard enough. He got up from where he had been sitting; he pulled the comforter on himself and lied down beside Anika. Making her roll onto him he held her gaze with a determination that she recognized very well, he told her in no uncertain terms that there was no escape from this either for Anika or him ever in their lives. Pulling her head on his chest, he ran his fingers through her hair and drew doodles on her back relentlessly till he heard her snoring away peacefully. Seeking his release from her clutches was hard, she had taken a lot of fabric captive in a tight fist on his shoulder. He was so tired that he would have slept as is but he did not want Anika to misunderstand him or worse go on a guilt trip herself in case if she remembered all that had transpired between them. Anika always looked straight into his eyes, unapologetic and guilt-free for the person she was, and he was determined to keep it like that. On seeing her discarded innerwear, he had come up with this devious plan to keep her diverted from the night that was now in the past. Though when she had not rubbed the eight-week clause in his face, he had become a little concerned if she recalled any part of their conversation, he knew it instinctively that she did have some memory of the night, How much he needed to find out.

They had not spoken or talked to each other at all in the entire past week. He laughed at himself just Anika could make him go soft and ramrod straight with ego at the same time. It was immature to display such cockiness at this time when she was not only emotionally fragile but physically weak. Otherwise, a very reasonable and intelligent Shivay always sent his grey matter to vacation when she incited him.
This is going to be a terrible mess he thought to himself sure that Anika would be in a sour mood though she would hide it, he would know it the minute he would see her. Her eyes shrunk slightly, and face always turned away and set straight, all she needed to do was to fold her hands under her chest, and she would resemble a four-year-old expressing displeasure publicly. So much for concealing her annoyance, he had gladly spent the entire journey ruminating about her. When he brought the aircraft to an effortless halt at the tarmac, it was nearly eight in the morning. He would be seeing her once again in a short while. Shivay was desperate to find out her reaction to the happenings that were going to take place today. Anika did not react with any one part of her body; her reactions included her in entirety. It was a treat to observe her response to any situation. Shivay could never forget the first time he had seen her dressed in white in their retiring suite. He will always remember she had literally bathed him and he had attended the meeting with Scord wet and unbuttoned shirt. He had known it without any doubt that very day that Anika was going to take him down, he had tried his best to change the eventuality, but he was happy that he failed.

Chapter 129

Uprooted and slayed

She stood there in the grand hall of Oberoi headquarters that she was now a part of, admiring the pillar of fame once again, trying to snub the feeling of connection to it. She worked hard to recall if he had said that eight weeks were consequential to him. No matter how hard she focused, her memory ditched her. She had stopped taking all the medication and felt a lot better especially her injuries were not that painful anymore. Most of them healed, and the blisters on her back were drying up too. She had been cleaning the attic with Gauri and had found her lost treasure. Today Gauri and Anika could laugh at that entire fiasco with a lot more amiability. Her hair stood at attention at the nape of her neck. She knew he was here, but determined to not look for him she continued to read the names at the pilar reverentially as if she was reading some holy scripture.
He observed her fervently, soaking in her more than elegant appearance. She looked breathtakingly beautiful in the white Kanchipuram silk with bright red border. He had got this saree for his mom years back when he had earned his first stipend after his internship at Indian Thermal Power Corporation. Power in every form had enchanted him right from the start, but he had to wait for five years after joining the business to acquire sufficient power to venture into the power sector. His mother had worn it many times today he could see how much pride she associated with everything connected with him. She wore red glass bangles punctuated by prominent gold lion head bangles, that screamed stature exerted subtly. Her mangal sutra was successfully hidden in the twenty strand plain Ruby necklace that she wore.
Soon the need to hide their status would be done away with, and he was sure she would wear his connection with him with as much pride as she observed the ceremonial pillar today.
"She is upset Shivay. Only because of Choti ma she is here Om interrupted his contemplation. He had messaged him, emailed him, and called him numerous times to implore him to speak to Anika. He had informed him that Anika was anxious about him, but Shivay remained unmoved. Eventually, the anxiety and despair were replaced by anger and resentment. Shivay knew that Anika was a fiercely independent woman and she had started to look upon him as a crutch. Every ship needed an anchor, but he did not like stagnation. Constant movement was his need, and he was ready to be her propeller but not the anchor. He had come to an understanding that Anika would never come out of her melancholy if he stayed around her doing things for her, he needed to let her find herself in all this mayhem. She had been able to endure and wriggle out of all adversities because she had stood up for herself and her convictions. With Shivay she found her beliefs questioned and that was causing a whole lot of confusions. This distance from him had given her the ability to see her strength and rise again. He wanted to make her realize that being with him did not mean she did not exist, they coexisted in the same dimension and strengthened each other as individuals first and evolved as a unit afterward. For Shivay togetherness meant an extending oneself in harmony with the other. He did not believe in the philosophy of complete dissolution of identity in the other, he believed in growing with the other. Her lack of work also was causing her anguish so he was determined to resolve all the issues surrounding them so that she could go back to complete her residency soon.
He still did not care to come to her, such an arrogant, egoistic brute he was, she thought to herself. Pledging not to care when he did not she turned towards Neil who had been standing next to her for past couple of minutes and raised her eyebrows to him questioningly.
"Bhabhi, Shivay has called you. He said softly. Anika looked diagonally up towards where Shivay had been standing just a few minutes before; she also knew when he had left. It had taken immense self-control not to grab him by his pricey coat and once again dig her nails into his neck.
"I have friends here tell him I am busy.
She was surprised to see Samar and Raghav walking in. Raghav was awestruck by Anika's appearance. Anika did not like people who have the resources and the ability yet they did not stand up against unprincipled, unscrupulous people. The way Raghav and city group had retracted themselves from the research had shown her the shallowness of the people yet again.
"You look great Anika. Samar could see that she was better not precisely her old self but a lot better.
"Thank you, sir. She said humbly, but her senses had once again located him, she knew he was approaching them, and she knew he was upset. After all, it was not all his fault, she had been whimsical with him in the week after the attack, and he had endured it with patience, but he had not called her even once, she stubbornly dismissed her heart. She realized she was enjoying this cat and mouse game with him, if not for anything else for the thrill of being able to crawl under his skin. Shivay came and stood next to her while he exchanged pleasantries with Samar and Raghav. Anika escaped his presence the minute she saw Rudra.
"Do billiyon ki ladayi mein bandar ka bhala hota hai par billu aur billi ki ladai mein iss bandar ka nuksaan hi hona hai.
"The monkey benefits in the fight of two cats but this monkey will lose big time in Billu and Billi's fight."

Rudra whispered to Om as Anika clinged on to them to escape Shivay.
"Why am I here and why are they here? Would you guys care to enlighten me? Anika asked Om and Rudra about Samar and Raghav. Om tried to convince her to talk to Shivay about this, but she remained unrelenting. Busing herself in an automobile magazine though not understanding a word in it, Anika killed time somehow. Not more than a few minutes had passed since she had sought refuge in Om's cabin that Shivay entered. He stood blocking half the exit and talked to Om and Rudra about some shares, registration and some trust of which she was unable to make out any heads and tails. She kept peeping out of the magazine waiting for Shivay to leave. He seemed genuinely worked up. Instead of Shivay it was Rudra who went out of the cabin with some documents in his hand and Om followed pursuit soon after. They just abandoned me she thought blessing them with all the slants that she knew. When Shivay did not move an inch from his place and continued to read whatever he had in his hand, Anika got up and sprinted towards the door. Before she could reach that, it was shut close, and she was plastered to Shivay, her right hand painfully twisted behind her and her left holding onto him. He stared in her eyes daring her to utter a word. His closeness undid her, and she felt a storm rising in her consciousness that threatened to consume her.
"What exactly are you trying to do? He asked indignantly, and before she could dig her nails into his skin again, he grabbed her other hand and twisted it behind too. She stopped struggling instantly conscious of the way they were plastered against each other.
"And you would be? She did not know what had gotten into her that she was determined to infuriate him.
"Really Anika? I thought we were done with games. She was somewhat warned not to take this any further, or she would have to pay for her mistakes.
"Let me go. She said looking away from him frustrated at her self more than him. What did she want from him? Why did he make are act like a 16-year-old sometimes? Shivay understood from the way she gave up the fight before he began enjoying it, that while she was much better, she still had a long road ahead to full recovery. He tugged at her arms pulling them to encircle him at his waist, holding them in place with his own, he waited for Anika to give up whatever little resistance she had left.
"I am disappointed doc; you gave up too soon. He said with a crooked smile, when she remained quiet, he asked her.
"Since you don't look inclined on telling me how I look. Let me tell you how you do.

When she remained unmoved, he bit her soft earlobe, and she jerked and tried to push him away, but he was too strong for her.
"You look beautiful and divine Anika. He said unbuttoning her blouse and reveling in her trembling body, taking pride in his effect on her. Women did admire him, but none responded to his presence the way she did.
"What are you doing? She breathed out the inaudible words.
"Checking on your injuries. Anika was back his charm broken, and she retrieved her hand from his grip.
"Oh, so you do remember me. I had started to wonder if I had miscalculated the dates and my eight weeks of Maharaja train ride was already over. So she was still stuck there meant she had no memory of that night. Shivay was confused, he searched her countenance for more clues, but she avoided his gaze. He chuckled at the thought of Maharaja train comparison, but he knew she had an inkling of that night because even now she sported a frown and that meant she was deep in thought. Om and other family members had consciously kept her away from any medium of news. They did not take the name of Daksha or Samaksha ever in her presence for the fear of the effect it would have on her. Gauri Saumya and Priyanka had not only kept her company but also kept her entertained in Shivay's absence.

"Samar and Raghav are here for a meeting Anika. This meeting will have huge impact on your and their careers. I am hoping it will be positive. He said moving away from her and forcing her to present her back to him while he buttoned her blouse up.
"I am better, you should have called me.
"I can say the same Anika. Look at me Anika, whatever is going to happen in there might not be something to look forward to but trust me it is important. He opened the door and instructed her to go to the conference room at the extreme end of the hall. When she entered the conference hall other than the known faces like Shakti, Tej, Om Rudra, Samar etc there was Daksha. She stumbled and nearly escaped a fall as a wave of fear surged through her. Shivay stood on the door unmoved and cautioned Om against helping her. She straightened herself up and took a seat that had a place card named Dr. Anika, right across Daksha Priyanka took a position next to her. Anika did not dare to look at Daksha. Shivay entered and started with the presentation.
"Welcome ladies and gentleman to this crucial meeting. I would like to congratulate Daksha on this merger. He said very casually, but many expressions passed through Daksha's face. Shivay knew how to inflict his blows that would cause maximum injury with minimum effort. He read all the clauses of the acquisition but never used the word acquisition until the end.
"Kurtz pharmacy surrenders its license to manufacture and distribute chemotherapy drugs in India and Asia. The acquiring firm would now do them.

The acquiring firm will be marketing the medicines in question at half the price that Kurtz is currently doing. The profit margin is unethical as of now marked at 400 percent. The acquiring firm will cut it down by 300 percent.

Kurtz has acquired a license to produce recreational candies, and Mr. Daksha Khurana will look after the production, Marketing, and distribution of the mentioned candy. As an effort of the acquiring firm to provide employment opportunities to the Northeastern states they have decided to open the plant at Dibrugarh. Mr. Daksha Khurana has very happily agreed to reside there to take care of the business in its startup phase for next fifteen years. I am sure the acquiring firm will benefit from his extensive experience. Anika was now left dumbfounded, and she raised her eyes for the first time to look across at Daksh, and then look around most of the people in the room were trying hard to keep their faces straight. So this is what grand humiliation looked like. She did not dare to glance over at Shivay. Biting her lower lip, she tried to keep cool and her tears at bay. She felt his presence right behind her and his grip on the back of her chair tentatively. She felt his knuckles brush against her neck as if to tell her to stay calm. He moved to Priyanka and stood behind her waiting for her to rise and take over the presentation.
"The acquiring firm will be named Lifeline Pharmaceuticals and will work as a sister concern of Oro Pharmaceuticals.
It will be under the joint ownership of Dr. Samar Malhotra, Dr. Anika, and Dr. Priyanka Oberoi.
Priyanka had stopped for a brief second before speaking out her name loud and clear. Anika immediately understood that Daksh had tried some of his nasty trick on Priyanka. There was no way that Shivay would have brought her in for any other reason. This was nothing but Daksha Khurana's humiliation conference.
Anika felt an uncomfortable exhilaration grip her. She did not like the fact that she was enjoying what was happening here. She did not know if she wanted to laugh or wail or do both. Janhavi who was sitting next to her understood what she was going through and she held Anika's hands under the table. Anika looked at her gratefully, Janhavi glanced at Shivay with profound pride, and Anika knew without any doubt that it was all his doing.

"After deducting all the costs and investments, our predicted profit stands at 80 percent over the cost. Keeping the current currency trends and predicted fluctuations in mind the firm hopes to earn a net profit of 500-600 crore rs in first five years of its operation. The corporation pledges this amount to Dr. Dhawan's Cancer Research. In case if the firm is unable to get the predicted profits Oro pharmaceutical will compensate for the Gap.

Kurtz pharmaceuticals will be stepping out of business, and their headquarters at Lower Parel will be liquidated, to further provide for the research.

Mr. Daksha Khurana has also agreed to give up their grand home in Singapore and Japan to liquidate to meet any outstanding loans.

Mr. Daksha Khurana has also agreed to liquidate their residential five storied building at Navi Mumbai and three other apartments at Nariman Point to provide for outstanding loans.

Lifeline will acquire all the remaining immovable assets as is.

Mr. Khurana will be paid a remuneration of 12 lakh per anum plus perks not more than of their fixed salary to function as MD of Kurtz Candies for next fifteen years. The salary will be appraised as per the market every five years.

The salary will be drawn from the Joint account of Dr. Priyanka Oberoi and Dr. Anika.

I would like to thank Mr. Daksha Khurana for finding us capable and giving us an opportunity to serve his better interests. We are a new business and Thankful to the Oberoi group for their erudite guidance. We are open to discussing any objection or any amendments to the clauses in this meeting. Priyanka had not even finished her sentence when Daksha's fearful scream echoed in the hall. From some unknown hole in the magnificent Oberoi headquarters, a white guinea pig had magically appeared and acquired his prestigious position right in Daksha's lap. It should not be some great mystery to all who witnessed this scene that the orchestrator of this incident was none other than the Great Tej Singh Oberoi the natural animal lover of the Oberoi clan. Tej picked the mouse up gently in his big hands and then chuckled.
"Aww, Daksha you off all the people got scared of a petty mouse. The keeper of the mighty Beast'. The entire hall laughed at the good-hearted joke, but the giggle that will reverberate in Daksha's ears forever will be Anika's. She was free of all fears finally, and Shivay felt at peace with himself. Neil's phone buzzed at that time, and he whispered something to Tej. When no one objected to any clause of the acquisition Shivay once again stood up with a black folder in his hand. He a told Samar to sign the acquisition contract first followed by Priyanka when he came to Anika he saw her looking at him with her big kawaii eyes brimming with unshed tears. Scared that she will decline to accept this, he warned her against it by putting his foot on hers careful not to hurt her. How could she ever deny this, her research, her only dream was going see a finality. It may not yield a cure, but it will pave the way for future possibilities without any doubt. She forcefully sucked back her tears well aware that Shivay did not like to see any woman cry and she signed on the dotted lines. Shivay visibly exhaled feeling relieved. They all retired for refreshments. Anika chose to stay close to Janhavi with Priyanka too numb to say anything. Priyanka revealed to her how Khuranas had bugged her phone and stalked her since past few months. It was Anika's accidental abduction that led to an unraveling of this vicious plan . Priyanka also told her how Samaksha had been arrested for Singapore trafficking drugs.
"Ask bhaiya for more details She had suddenly turned coy and fumbled for words. Anika was confused by this sudden change in her demeanor but soon understood the cause. Ranveer had entered the refreshment room wearing his crisp uniform, along with a few constables.
"Mr. Oberoi I am sorry to disrupt your august gathering, but I am here to execute my duty.Words have a strange might to kill or to heal. His stress on the word execute would always remind Daksha of his beloved brother.
"How can I help you? Tej asked knowing fully well his purpose of the visit, but for the sake of some entertainment, he played along.
"We have an arrest warrant for you Mr. Daksha Khurana charging you of abetment of Dr. Dhawan's Murder. We have come here for you. His words echoed in the stunned gathering. Possibly Daksh had also given up by now, so he said nothing when he was handcuffed by Ranveer and dragged away. Ranveer stopped for a fraction of a minute in front of Priyanka and Anika, to let them observe and recognize their perpetrator's complete annihilation. Priyanka held on to Anika's hand as her heart raced and her mind gave up.

This brings us to a closure of one loop. Two more to go Tia and KT. I hope you will enjoy reading Daksh's OMM as much as I enjoyed writing it. In these few chapters, we did not see much family interaction but it is time for the Family to buckle up. Do let me know what you think and what you liked. I love reading your reviews and am open to all critiques. I will be responding to all the reviews later today. For now logging off from the laptop will continue reading on the phone though so please do keep these lovely comments coming. I just love walking around with my big head.
