while it seems like Dev wants to get friendly with Geet and it seems that Geet is uncomfortable with his slight touches
while Sasha wants both Maan and Dev and wants to know why Geet and Maan are so comfortable
hope this time in the briefing Maan can at least lead and not get nervous

Let's hope Geet's presence is the influence that he needs...

Old habits die hard. And in her defence, she's in a workplace, fairly new, still getting to know everyone... Dev isn't the bad guy. I promise.

Haha cheapo 😆

back to reading this one :) I had read it from the blog during ZHM time, and I am enjoying the re-read again after these couple of years, might have forgotten few things so its like a new start :)

Part 1

😆 Maan is like that whining child who wants to skip the school on the pretext of the I am sick excuse..
He does not seem to be interested taking over the Khurana business successor role...the lazy spoiled brat or he has some different aspirations..and Geet all set to start her career with a zeal...but washed out with the rain and Maan.

I hope you enjoy it even more this time around 😳

Haha Maan is definitely a kid at heart!

Part 2

Dev and Sasha, so for a change Sasha will neither bug Maan, nor will give her envious looks to Geet..
hahaha...the office cabin entry scene.. Geet moving backwards...bumped to someone with papers flying everywhere only to find that the 'someone' is not the handsome young owner but his father in the scene.

Not your typical Bollywood romantic scene!

Part 3

I must say, Geet is a pro in her work and also in her quick analysis of the people, she figured it out in minutes, what kind of a boss she has to deal with, the incompetent one for the MD position, hope with Geet he gets some interest to pay attention on the work..
Maan and Sasha 😲
*shocked a little, but I do remember something about Sasha in the story that is revealed in later parts* ;)

Savvy Geet to the rescue! Haha, Sasha is full of surprises...

Part 5

Maan and Sasha past..😕 I hope it was not that...umm...ok so since the details are kept little ambiguous as I interpreted them, for my sake I have to assume it was at the most on platonic level..😆 cannot read either Maan or Geet to be that much spoiled, unless it is a type of story where story line demands some serious discussion around the topic..😊

and on the update, I was smiling throughout the interaction between Maan, Dev and Geet, Geet was so blunt in telling him, boss anyway you are doing nothing, sitting idle here, better I enjoy my lunch peacefully..and Dev made a mentally pressurizing move on Maan by taking his secretary to lunch..Maan tried to stop but then he really has to roll his sleeves up to prove himself..

Um well let's just say Maan was a lothario... and enough said on that topic 😆

Honestly, Dev is one of my favourite characters in this story. Despite the rivalry, the whole equation changes whenever he's thrown into a conversation. He's too underrated from those who prefer laid back Maan or savvy Geet

Part 6

Geet "You have no experience, Everyone knows it" 😆

and after the meeting, all the company executives got to know it too !!

Pammi is reminding me more and more of the vamps from EK serials with their loud make-up and sly and smirk expressions !!
I am liking the business rivalry part. At the moment Dev is leaving no stone unturned to knock down his opponent, making Maan frustrated even more.
at last Maan got to look at her qualifications and accepted the offered help to come back in the game. Looking forward for Geet the savior with her shining degrees helping out the man in distress..

Geet's sarcasm is everything! And Pammi was completely inspired by the Ekta villains, deadly screen sirens.

Part 7

Sasha is maha-smart..trying to sail on two boats..and once it is clear which boat is going to sail to its destination, she will shift her other feet on its board..
o..o..they are literally spying behind Dev/Geet.

loved the updates..What I liked the most about the updates and story in general is the smooth flow, the humorous touch to the rivalry without getting the story line into unnecessary dramatic zone and the playfulness of the characters. waiting for the next update.

The humour in this story is one of my greatest accomplishments, without sounding too cliched. I love a bit of comedy to lighten any situation.

This chapter brings a whole different dynamic to our beloved Maan and Geet... one of my favourite chapters in the story. So sit back and enjoy the ride 😉
Chapter 8 - Old Habits Die Hard

"Pinky, I cannot believe you've lured me into this. I have an early start tomorrow. A briefing, my first briefing. And I said I'd help my boss become more business minded. Yet just again, like old times, you're dragging me out partying."

"You only live once! Aw come on, think of this as... as a celebration on you holding down this job for longer than I thought."

Geet scoffed. "Thanks for having such faith in me."

"Because this job goes against everything you are & your aims in life."

"Sometimes, things change. Things don't turn out the way we expect them to."

She checked herself out in the mirror. "How do I look? she asked, scrutinising the knee length black dress she was in.

"Drop dead gorgeous. You'll get plenty of numbers tonight." Pinky winked at her through the mirror, before putting bangle around her wrist.

"Ugh, please. Men are the last thing on my mind."

...

It was 10pm, & Maan had spent more time working on tomorrow's briefing than he could ever recall working altogether in his entire life.

He dropped onto the bed, glancing at his phone, then sighed tiredly. Manish had already finished his half of the work, eaten & gone to bed, leaving his son to finish up the rest. Maan had agreed, not realising the amount of the workload he had signed himself up for.

"I'm bored of this," he muttered, & got up to grab something to eat when his phone beeped with a text.

He read it once, grinned, then grabbed his keys & jacket & crept out of the door.

...

"How do you know about this place?" Geet asked, as she stepped inside the lavish bar with Pinky.

"I've got an old school friend who works here."

"Really? Is he working tonight?"

Pinky glanced towards the bar, & grinned. "Yes he is, come on, I'll introduce you to him."

They walked up to meet a handsome man of mid 20s, who had a cloth over one shoulder & a toothpick in his mouth, wiping down some glasses.

"Chulbul! This is my friend & housemate Geet I was telling you about."

Geet smiled warmly, extending a hand. "Hey, nice to meet you. Geet Handa."

"Chulbul Pandey."

"Chulbul what?"

...

"Stop right here."

Nakul stopped the car. Maan reached in his pocket for a wad of bills. "That's your tip & hush money. Dad or Dadima can't know about this. If they ask, I'm asleep. I'll call you when I need you to pick me up. Understood?"

"Perfectly, sir."

"Good."

Maan stepped out of the Mercedes & it smoothly pulled away. He spotted a familiar face & smirked instantly as he approached him.

"Well well, if it isn't Yash Singhania."

"Maan Singh Khurana."

They greeted with a hug & friendly sparring. "Long time no see, buddy. Thought you'd settled down."

Maan scoffed. "Me, & settle down?"

"That's the old Maan I know & love. How about we hit the bars, relive the old days?"

Geet's words instantly flashed to Maan's mind, about how she'd advised him to leave the old days behind. But a few drinks wouldn't hurt. And he had worked hard all evening, he needed some time to relax & unwind.

"Why the hell not? Let's go."

...

Geet & Pinky sat into one of the seats, out of line from Chulbul's eye, & only then did Geet allow herself to erupt into laughter.

"Chulbul Pandey?! That is hilarious."

Pinky giggled. "It wasn't even a funny name until Dabangg came out. After that, poor Pandey became the butt of everyone's jokes."

"I guess it's ok if you've known him from before, but meeting him for the first time & he comes out with that name... She sighed, composing herself. "I was trying so hard to be serious as he told me about himself."

"I know, I could see you pinching your skin to stop yourself from laughing."

"Do you think he noticed?"

There was a moment's silence between them as they contemplated the answer, then they broke out into laughter once more. Geet sipped her drink, convincing herself one or two would do no harm & she'd be fine in the morning.

...

The clock struck 12, & Maan & Yash staggered into their last bar of the night. Yash had wanted to continue partying, but they were both already too drunk & Maan kept reminding Yash & himself he had an early start, although he desperately wished he didn't.

"Keep a round of shots coming, Yash slurred as he pulled his wallet out.

"Not for me, I'll have... like, maybe one then I really have to be heading off..."

The dancefloor was packed with people enjoying a bhangra tune, & Yash's eyes wandered off across the floor until he settled on one girl & smiled.

"That one, he said, pointing her out to Maan. "She's beautiful, and damn, she can dance."

"Who? Maan asked, rubbing his eye. His drunkness wasn't helping him to focus.

"The one in the knee length black dress, brown curly hair... endless legs."

Maan's eyes widened as his gaze fell on her & he realised just who Yash was on about. Geet was in the middle of the floor, holding hands with Pinky, who had their back to them as she giggled & danced merrily away, enjoying the intoxication of the one too many drinks she'd had.

As if sensing someone's eyes on her, Geet looked around her then her eyes landed past Pinky's shoulder & straight ahead at the person who was intently staring at her. She stopped dancing straightaway, confused & shocked. How much had she had to drink? Was she imagining him? She blinked a few times, wondering & hoping that he was a mirage but the realisation hit home that it was Maan. Definitely Maan, who looked as drunk as she was.

Part 8

chulbul pandey..if the name had been for a real person, it would have been the same reaction from me like Geet !

old habits die hard, and so is with Maan, He has taken the quote - enjoyment is the key to success - way too seriously ;)
still hope that with Geet he would be able to manage the meeting and then takes a lesson or two about the business from her.
but before that what will happen in the party.. there a saying that drinking unveils the inner self..waiting for what Maaneet would think about or say to each other under the effect of drink.

Chapter 9 - In the Same Boat

"Oh no. No, no, no."

Geet stopped dancing & managed to keep herself on her feet for long enough to turn away from Maan abruptly. She covered the side of her face with her hand, somehow hoping that he hadn't noticed her.

Yash frowned upon seeing Geet turn away. "Come on Maan, be my wingman. Let's see if Singhania still has the charm."

"I-I don't think that's a good idea." Maan had realised by her sudden behaviour that she didn't want to be acknowledged by him, & he would also feel uncomfortable being in her presence when they were both so drunk. It wasn't the ideal state that a boss & secretary wanted to be in when they met each other outside of the office.

"Dude, she's gorgeous, I'm not letting this chance pass me by."

Ignoring his friend, Yash limbered out onto the dancefloor. Maan squeezed his eyes & followed, pinching himself & hoping it was a dream & maybe he'd wake up.

Pinky had stopped waving her arms around in the air enough to notice Geet was no longer dancing with her, but rather stood in one position hiding herself. Her eyes widened when she saw 2 men approaching her.

Geet sensed a presence behind her & bit her lip. "Please be someone else, please be someone else. This is so embarrassing. Every single goddamn time, I tell myself I won't get drunk and yet-"

Yash tapped her shoulder. "Excuse me, miss?"

Maan eyed the bathrooms & contemplated how long it would take for him to make a mad dash there before Geet turned around.

Pinky eyed Geet & the men and wrapped her small bag around her wrist, ready to launch towards them & attack if they misbehaved.

Geet eyed the club for a spot where she could crawl into & hibernate until the night was over.

Just as Maan had backed away & turned in the direction of the bathrooms, Geet turned around, attempting a smile. "Yes?"

"Are you ok?" Yash asked in his suave voice.

Geet noticed Maan from over Yash's shoulder, his gaze fixated on the floor.

"Erm, yeah, I'm ok. I was just, er... gathering my thoughts." She laughed awkwardly, running her fingers through her hair. "Hey, Maan," she gave him a small wave, causing Maan to look up.

"You know each other? Dude, you didn't tell me you knew her."

"She's- she works at KC, she's my secretary."

"Really?" Yash grinned. "That's a surprise. I'm Yash, Yash Singhania."

"Geet Handa." She shook his hand.

"Care to join us for some drinks?"

"Uh..."

Pinky arrived, stepping beside Geet & linking her arm into hers. "Hello ji! I'm Pinky, Geet's friend!"

Yash smiled once more, & Geet nudged her friend. "Pinky, that's Maan, my boss."

Her mouth formed a small o. "That's your boss?!"

Maan waved awkwardly. If only the ground would swallow him up...

"Shush!" Geet muttered through gritted teeth. "Actually Yash, we better be off. It's pretty late already and-" She shot a look towards Maan. "It's an early start tomorrow morning."

"Oye Geet, your boss is here, he has an early start too & he's not bothered." Pinky chimed in, grinning away.

Yash laughed in agreement. "I won't take no for an answer, ladies."

...

15 minutes later, & Maan found himself sat between Yash & Geet as they were seated in a corner of the bar. Yash & Pinky were knocking back the drinks, discussing which sweetmeat was better, gulab jamuns or jalebis. Geet & Maan shared awkward looks between them. Maan also noticed the casual admiring glances Yash gave Geet it made him uncomfortable, yet he wasn't sure why.

Taking a sip from his brandy, his gaze settled on Geet. She was staring at the vodka glass in her hand, swirling the drink. She already looked drunk; her hazel eyes were slightly droopy, her cheeks flushed & her curly hair an unruly mass that fell around her shoulders. He had seen her earlier in the night; laughing, dancing, having the time of her life with her bubbly smile lighting up her face. Now she shifted every so often, her eyes never met his & she seemed uncomfortable. He hoped it wasn't due to his presence, he didn't want it to be because of his presence.

She was her usual vivacious self with him in the office. He put it down to her drunken state & their earlier conversation in the day about leaving the partying lifestyle behind to her behaviour now. He wouldn't bring the night up with her in the future; after all, he was in the same position as her, & he fared worse. The future CEO of KC partying the night before an international meeting. However, a smile his way from her & some acknowledgement of his presence in her eyes would be nice.

He decided the night had gone on for too long it was 2am already, & he needed to get some sleep before the meeting. Holding Yash's shoulders for support, he stood up. "I really have to go now."

"Aw Maan, you killjoy," Yash slurred. "You're getting old."

He noticed Geet finally looked up at him. "I'm getting more responsibilites. I'm holding you personally responsible for the failure that will be the meeting tomorrow."

Geet stood up too. "Come on Pinky, I think it's time we went home too."

Pinky slapped her hand away, pouting. "No, I'm having too much fun with Ansh here."

"Yash," he corrected her.

"Yeah, yeah, same difference." She kissed her shot glass. "I love you alcohol!"

"Pinky, come on," Geet persisted, getting annoyed with her friend now. A fun night out had turned into an awkward encounter with her boss, & she knew she was going to have the worst hangover in the morning.

"I said no, Geeto," Pinky pouted like a child.

"Maan, you're in no fit state to drive. Why don't you & Geet hail a taxi?"

Geet glanced at Maan.

"I doubt we'd get a taxi at this time Yash, I'll just call my driver."

Geet couldn't argue with the fact that no taxi would be available at this time of the night. She'd rather hail a ride with Maan than walk home, especially in the heels that had now caused painful blisters on her feet.

"Byeee Geet, don't wait up!" Pinky waved her friend off, before saying a quick bye to Yash. Yash had stood up, looking like he wanted to ask Geet something, but she had already walked away. Maan smiled them goodbye & followed her.

...

The humid summer night was warm with a cool breeze. Maan & Geet stood outside the club, a few feet away from each other. The sounds of shrieking caused them to turn around as they saw a young man carry his girlfriend out of the club to the car, her shoes in her hand as she giggled & told him how much he loved him.

"I didn't know you came here," Geet said, to break the awkward silence between them.

"I did when I was younger, not so much now. Yash did a good job in convincing me."

"Pinky dragged me out, too."

They exchanged a look, then broke out into peels of laughter.

"Have you seen us, trying to justify ourselves?" Geet said in between giggles.

"It's always easier to blame someone else rather than yourself," Maan agreed.

"How much did you have to drink?"

"Do you honestly expect me to remember?" he smirked.

"Did you try those cocktails Pinky bought?"

"I'm not sure they should even be classed as cocktails."

She folded her arms across her chest. "I have to admit, I was horrified when I saw you. I mean, your secretary clubbing away on a work night, it gives off such a bad impression."

"I think I'm higher up the scales on bad impressions."

"Everyone needs to let their hair down sometimes. And I am emphasising the sometimes. I think I felt so awkward because I convinced you that I didn't do this kind of thing anymore-"

"Yet we both bump into each other at the same joint, as drunk as the other."

"Exactly," she grinned, pushing the loose strands of hair away from her face. The Khurana car pulled up.

"Ladies first," he opened the door for her. "See, I'm not that drunk." He grinned, causing her to smile once more.

...

The car stopped outside Geet's residence.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome."

"We'll see who's more hungover tomorrow. The one who is least hungover, has to buy the other coffee."

"I'll take that as a deal."

They shook hands. "Night, Maan."

"Goodnight, Geet."
