Chapter 22 (final chapter)
Maheks cell phone rang. Shaurya's name flashed on the screen and she quickly picked it up. "Shaurya..." her heart was thudding in its rib cage just by hearing his voice. "I'm on my way home babe!" "I'm waiting for you!" Replied Mahek while touching her tummy. "And guess what? I got the contract!" Maheks face lit up! "I knew you would get the contract,congrats Shaurya!" "Thank you babes! Get ready I'm craving for a kiss and the other things as well." "Besharam!" Shying away she hung up and covered her face with her hands.
Shaurya reached home just before dinner time. Harish and Karuna greeted him by the door. Both looked happy. "Congratulations beta!" Harish said. "Thanks dad! My hard work has been paid off. Staying up late at night and experimenting.." He stopped when he saw his parents eyes widened. Vicky choked on the tea he was drinking. "Bhai,what are you talking about?" Shaurya walked towards vicky. "I think Mahek had not told him about her pregnancy." Whispered Karuna to her husband and both laughed. "I was talking about my contract and how hard I worked for it! What were you thinking?" He pulled Vicky's ears. "I wasn't thinking anything...aaah my ears!" Vicky winced in pain. Shaurya left his ears and looked around. "Why is the house decorated with kids soft toys?" Karuna pulled his cheeks. "Badmaash! Go ask your wife!" "Go bhai! We'll be joining you shortly!" Vicky teased. Shaurya couldn't understand what was going on. He hurried towards his bedroom almost running into the teddies sitting on the stairs. Turning the door knob,he stepped in the room. "Mahek! Babe!" Mahek was sitting on the bed weaving baby socks. Hearing his deep voice she got up. "Babe,why are these toys and teddies everywhere?" She smiled sheepishly. Her cheeks changed shades of pink as both of them walked towards each other. Stopping in front of him,she took his hand and placed it on her tummy. "These toys are for the one growing inside of me." Shaurya gave her a questionable look. "I'm pregnant with our baby Shaurya!" Tears of joy filled their eyes. "Are you serious! Matlab main papa..! Wow!" He was speechless for a moment. He knelt down and caressed her tummy and kissed all over it. "I'm the happiest man on planet earth right now!" Mahek ran her hand through his hairs as he talked with their unborn baby. "What a lucky day!" He got up and enveloped her in his arms. "I got my biggest contract and now our baby surprise! Thank you Mahek! His hand stroked her cheek, igniting a response from deep within her. "I can't imagine living without you or our baby now, he said, tenderly kissing her forehead, his warm breath fanning her brow. He paused thoughtfully for a moment before speaking again. "I love you,Mahek!. More than I ever could have imagined. And I don't want to lose you . . . I just can't lose you". And the sweetest, spellbound feeling spilled from maheks heart as he captured her lips with his mouth. He moved his lips over hers with a feather-light touch, in a way that was anything but innocent. Until she parted her lips and let him kiss her again . . . completely . . . thoroughly. She heard herself moan, and she could feel the throbbing of her own pulse flickering hotly through her veins. He lifted his head and stared down at her, rubbing his thumb across her lower lip. "This is what I was talking about on the phone. A real kiss". She hit him gently on his chest. He reached out, capturing her hand in his. He laced his fingers casually through hers. Mahek buried herself in his bosom and the calm finally came, settling over her peacefully. And then he kissed her again. Gently. Softly. Not on the lips,but on her forehead and on the crown of her head. The gesture was sweet and a little possessive. "I love you Shaurya! And I love our baby!" This was a start of something new.
Months went by. Shaurya stayed home looking after Mahek and their unborn baby. Maheks baby bump was big and round. "Shaurya,I'm so much pregnant!" Shaurya laughed. "I can see that!" He would buy her nice maternity clothes and always complimented that she looked gorgeous. Mahek would just blush. In the evening He would take her for walks around the block and pluck fresh fruits from the trees for her. He would go for parenting classes with her and doze off in the class. At home Mahek would ask him how he would change a baby's diaper. He would show her the other way around,front facing the back and the back facing the front. "This is what happens when you sleep in the class!" Mahek would hit him with pillows. He would just laugh away. At night when Mahek gets restless as baby kicks and couldn't sleep,he would stay up all night rubbing her tummy and talking to the baby and finally both mother child would doze off. One night she woke up craving for tandoori chicken which was strange as she was a vegetarian all her life. She looked at Shaurya who was sleeping peacefully beside her. She leaned and pecked his lips.He opened his eyes right away! "Babes! You alright? Are you having pain? Did your water broke?" He had fear and concern in his eyes. Mahek snuggled in him. "Nahi Shaurya! I want tandoori chicken!" "What?? But you don't eat meat." She placed his hand on her baby bump. "Your baby wants it not me...but don't worry I'll order it." Shaurya sat up rubbing his eyes. "You are not allowed to eat outside food Mahek,have you forgotten?" She curled up in his lap and rested her head on his chest. Mahek lifted her head and looked at him with her best sad puppy dog eyes and shook her head. "Please babe!" Whenever she called him babe he would smile. "I'll make it myself,how's that?" Mahek leaned forward and kissed him softly in response, conveying all the love and appreciation she felt in that moment. "Thanks, baby's papa!" she said with a grin. "You'll relax in the living room while I cook,I want you before my eyes." He scooped her up bridal style and carried her over to the couch downstairs, where he got her situated with pillows, blankets and Netflix. "Watch whatever you want to,I'll be back with your food shortly." He said while handing her the remote.
In an hour he served her tandoori chicken with salad. When she made a face,he fed her. First time Mahek had eaten non veg and she loved it. "Our baby will be meat eater like me!" Said Shaurya. "I think so too ...I'm full Shaurya and your baby is happy." Shaurya helped her clean up and carried her back to the room. As they both lay in bed,She whispered "I love you" in his ear and kissed each of his fingers before draping his arm around her waist and snuggling back into him, content to nap with him until the baby insisted it was time for food.
Mahek was on her nine month. It was one late evening,She was on terrace watching Shaurya water her flower garden. He made faces at her and she just laughed. Suddenly Her birth pain started and her water broke. "Shaurya!!!" She cried in pain. Shaurya saw her holding her tummy and wincing in pain. Throwing the hosepipe away,he ran inside the house as fast as he could. "Vicky get the car,fast!" He yelled while running to his room. "Mahek!!" He caught her before she could fall. "My water broke Shaurya...baby is coming!" He scooped her up in his arms. "We are going to the hospital right now!" He brought her down. "We are coming right behind you beta!" Karuna ma told him. "Ji ma!" Vicky was waiting with the car door open. They got in and vicky sped towards the hospital. Mahek was just screaming in pain. "Hang in there babe...we are almost there!" He consoled her with kisses and comforting words until they arrived at the hospital. Mahek was taken to women's ward right away. "Shaurya!!! I want my husband please!" She told the nurses. "Sorry Mrs khanna,he will have to stay outside." Shaurya paced the hallway restlessly. Vicky too looked very worried. Few minutes later Karuna and Harish joined them. "How's Mahek? Any news yet?" Asked Karuna ma. "She was in pain when they took her inside..we are still waiting to hear from the doctor." Said Shaurya while sighing to ease his tension. Vicky had called Nehal and the sharma family were on their way.
Few minutes later the door opened and a midwife came out. "Nurse,how's my wife and my baby?" Shaurya asked as if his life dependant on her answer. Khanna family surrounded the nurse in anticipation. "Congratulation Mr khanna! Your wife has given birth to a cute little baby boy and both mother and child are fine!" Smile finally returned on Shaurya's face. "Thank you so much!" He was overwhelmed with a flood of happy emotions. Khanna family laughed with tears of joy. Vicky congratulated and hugged his bhai who was on cloud nine. "Ma!" He hugged Karuna ma and Harish pat on his back. "Congratulations my son! You made me a grandpa!" Harish started to dance with Karuna in happiness. "You can come in Mr khanna,your wife and son is waiting for you in the private room you arranged for them.." A nurse told Shaurya. Shaurya excitedly followed the nurse. "This is the room you have arranged for your wife and child,you can go in." Saying that the nurse left. Sighing,Shaurya opened the door and stepped inside. The room was decorated with balloons,flowers and soft toys as directed by him. Mahek was sitting on the bed,leaning on the headboard with her baby in her lap. He was so emotional...happy, excited, scared, proud and nervous all rolled up into one. "Shaurya...our baby..humarey pyaar ki nishani..." Mahek said with tears. He ran and rained her face with kisses! "Tum theek ho na?" He asked and buried her head in his chest. Mahek nodded and kissed his cheek. "Thank you for the best gift ever! I love you!" He said while cupping her cheeks. Mahek gave him their little bundle of joy. Both were crying as shaurya held the baby for the first time. "Hey buddy!" Cutie pie opened his eyes as he recognized his papa's voice. He kissed his baby gently. "Welcome to the family ...I always thought you were a girl and your momma said it's a boy,she won like she always does!" He held him and cried the tears of joy...the pride he felt at that moment was indescribable. "I love you!" Shaurya whispered against his soft cheek. Baby made a small sound. He couldn't stop looking at him. Nervous, because now he was responsible for that little guy.
Later,the khannas and sharma's got to meet the new mother and child. Everyone had smile on the their faces. Shaurya never left Mahek and his baby's side. He stayed with them that night at the hospital and brought them home the next day. Baby's entry in the khanna mansion was a grand one. With dhol baja and dancing. MehRya stood at the door with their baby,Karuna ma did the arti and the trio stepped inside. Friends and families came with gifts and blessings. Shaurya didn't like the crowd and wanted Mahek to rest so he went to his mom. "Ma,aap log dekh lo I'm taking Mahek to the room,she needs rest." Karuna ma smiled and caressed his cheek. "Kitna khayal rakhta hai tu Mahek ka..Theek hai go! Party will start around 6,come by that time.." Shaurya took his baby in his lap,Mahek held his arm as he walked them to their room. He looked after the baby while Mahek showered and later watched them as Mahek fed the baby. Soon the cutie pie was sound asleep. Shaurya pulled Mahek in his arms,kissing her forehead both watched their baby sleep. He pushed her hairs behind her ears and looked into her hazels. "Mahek,Without you and our baby,I'm nothing! With you,I'm something and together we are everything. Whenever I am with you, I wish I could stop time so I could spend forever with you and never have to leave your side. Forever I will protect you and our bundle of joy,I will love you both for there is nothing in this world I want to do but love you and our baby and to be with you, now and forever. Till the oceans dry, till the sun dims, I'll still be loving you forever and for eternity. Thank you for coming in my life and turning my life around completely. Thank you for loving me and accepting me the way I am. Keep your hand in mine forever, as we start our new life together with our baby." Mahek was in tears when he stopped. Words were not needed as her tears spoke her love for him. She took her cutie pies hand and Shaurya covered their hands with his palm,promising to love and to protect them forever. "I love you baby's papa! "I love you baby's momma!" And they kissed,forgetting their cutie pie who had opened his eyes and was watching them quietly making baby sounds.
And MehRya lived happily ever after in the MehRya land where only love and romance existed.
