Chapter 21

To much to absorb

...

"O, Anika didi is here.

"Here as in where?

"As in Leela, with Samar Malhotra and his fianc Ragini

"Why is she with them? O asked RU

"I would know that how?

"I will give her a call and you bring her along otherwise Samar will have to drop her. Om told Rudra clearly he was unaware of the fact that Anika was no more staying at Oberoi Mansion for this trip.

"Share her number with me I will text her. Mom had said she went to her friend, never knew she was friends with Malhotras.

Rudra was waiting for Om's text and hence was constantly fidgeting with his phone to Shivay's utmost displeasure. He hated it when people could not sit still.

"Sit still Rudra

"You know, I can't wait patiently

"What are you waiting for?

"For her number. O asked me to bring her along with us. Rudra pointed towards Anika's table.

"She will not come with us.

"Why?

Shivay wanted to say because he did not want her to, but then he would have to tell him the reason behind his want. They were still eating with their clients and Shivay did not want to indulge in an interrogation session with Rudra in front of them.

"She is staying at her friend Samar Malhotra's house. She will be comfortable there; they studied together or something to the same effect. Prinku is not here so she feels a little out of place with us. Shivay said all that in shortest possible time trying, to look neutral and unaffected by her. Shivay knew he was dealing with his own blood and convincing him won't be easy but surprisingly Rudra chose to keep mum leaving Shivay wondering what was going in his mind. Rudra had epic timing and he could bring down any one that too with perfect smile plastered on his face. Shivay was getting disaster vibes from Rudra and he was absolutely cautious. Just then Rudra's phone beeped and Shivay instinctively knew he now had that irritating woman's number and now his baby brother would brew a storm right under his nose and he won't be able to do a thing about it.

"Lo got Anika didi's number, let me ask her plans for her stay.

"I just told you she is not comfortable with us. Shivay tried to keep his cool. He tried to divert Rudra to the conversation that he was trying to have with their clients, though he was least interested in them anymore.

"That is, what you said but I need to confirm because O is saying something else. He replied batting his eyelashes to him irritating an already frustrated Shivay further.

"My brothers are one of a kind. He said it to Jason one of his clients.

"I will surely agree to that you guys are one of a kind. He replied laughing.

"What is that supposed to mean?

"That is supposed to mean, that I have never seen such camaraderie between brothers at your age, atleast not in my part of the world. It may be common in India but not where I come from. It's weird how you have an overruling authority on both of your brothers. At this age our fathers cannot exert that kind of authority as you do on your brothers. You are lucky to have them

"To have that kind of an authority over someone's life one has to be selflessly in love with that someone. Shivay bhaiya not only loves us selflessly but he is the very reason behind our joy, our dreams, our aspirations. It is actually unrealistic the way he has dedicated his life for us.

"I do pity the woman who will come in your life Shivay. She will have two big babies to care for. Jason and the other two were now laughing and Shivay as well as Rudy did not like it. Rudy took to his phone again to text Anika.

Anika Didi aapke peeche ki hi table pe main hoon. Aapka jab dinner ho jaye to idhar aa jaiye. Hum saath mein ghar jayeinge. O ne bola main aapko pick karoon.

Anika looked at her flashing screen and then turned to look back. Rudra waved to her and she gave him one of the brightest smiles he had ever seen.

"Is she your girlfriend?

"No Jason!! Both Shivay and Rudra exclaimed in unison.

"What! You get to decide on each other's girlfriends also.?

"No she is my younger sister's friend. Shivay said that more to himself than to anyone else trying once again to understand his eagerness to give Anika a relationship status that could define her for him. He had always been one to ignore strangers and strangers that attracted him had never happened before. The sooner he saw her as somehow associated with him easier it would be for him to deal with her. Rudra was noticing everything and imprinting it in his memory. He had to relay it all bit by bit to O because while he was unable make any sense of this weird behavior by Shivay Viz a Viz Anika, probably he could figure something out. The dinner was done for the Oberois as well as their guests so they called the evening off.

"Shivay I am hoping that Ford and Oberoi motors would be able to do business together. One of the ford reps started to talk but was cut off by Shivay's deep laughter.

"Only if we were doing business together. Let us as in our board of directors sit and deliberate on all the terms and conditions and we will get back to you.

"Look I can say from an outsider perspective also. You will not get a better deal than this. Shivay nodded looking everywhere but at his guest. His disinterest in this topic couldn't be more evident. The discussion ended even before it started and his guests left for their rooms. Once his guests left Shivay sat down back on the table, he wanted to spend some more time here. If asked why he himself would not be able to answer. Some solutions and answers are actually right in front of us only if we had the ability to see it and accept it. A person is not an ever expanding being, to accept something he has to make space within himself. He has to let go of something less important. The question was if Shivay was ready to accept the much needed reprieve that was knocking on his door.

Forged Exteriors, Crumbling Interiors

"Should we go Bhaiya? Rudra asked. Shivay looked at him but took his time to answer trying to weigh his own thoughts. Seeing Shivay zoned out Rudra took a seat in front of him and ordered for their favorite kulfi. Shivay had a sweet tooth and sugar always gave him a high.

"Bhaiya don't fret so much on all this. In all this taking Oberoi Empire to greater heights, you have somewhere become a machine. We together can figure it out. Call it a day for now, please, do relax. Rudra was genuinely concerned for Shivay. He was absolutely right though, with every milestone that Oberoi Industries achieved, a part of Shivay lost life. Bit by bit he was becoming a robot, with an exterior so hard it was getting difficult for anyone to reach him. Rudra and Om both were concerned that if he continued on this path of self-destruction he would soon be out of reach of the brothers also.

He needed more than their brotherly love and coaxing to ground him back. Indiscretions of Tej and cultural and spiritual indulgences of Shakti had caused Shivay to shoulder responsibilities much sooner than was anticipated. At his 22nd birthday, the shy boy had for the first time faced the world alone declaring the public issue of Oberoi Inficom a company that was started by Shivay just Two years back. 14 years since Shivay had earned many laurels. When he joined, the Oberoi industries was walking on crutches, but today it soared high in the sky. The things that had kept his predecessors from bringing this empire to its glory were exactly the things that Shivay had fiercely refrained from. His uncle though an astute businessman but had wasted away his legacy at the hands of his numerous mistresses and girlfriends. He had seen His Badi Ma and Om suffer day in and day out. If not for Janhavi their business would have been in shambles. He admired his Badi ma for shouldering the responsibility with grace and dignity even in the face of all odds. Then comes his father more of an ascetic, than a businessman. Not that he lacked intelligence instead he lacked ambition. His goal was more towards self-enlightenment and self-enrichment than business. To Shivay his dad enlightened him in ways more than one. He made him treasure his family more than self. He had a mother who appeared to be a delightfully happy woman but she was actually trying to cover up her own failures. When she should have been the enabler, the inspiration for his father, she chose the easy path to overlook beyond his father's wanderer tendencies and find her purpose elsewhere. Her sole focus shifted on the four children of the family. She tried her best to keep them together, though she got little in return she asked for even less. To her rescue also, came Shivay even before he could spell family he learned to keep it together. In all this, he lost himself somewhere. The two women of his family needed reprieve and he provided with that much-needed relief.

Tej had come to his senses of late and was a big guidance to Shivay but something else was brewing within him now. Tej was desperate for the division of Oberoi group of industries and this very thought was killing Shivay from within. While Shivay was all for practical viewpoints and hence he had meticulously planned and laid down equal shareholdings for all three of the Junior Obros. The seniors too had their shares. In all the Oberois controlled 65 percent of the shares whereas rest 35 percent was vested with the investors. There was no need for any kind of division as of now, especially when Rudra and Om both were not so good with management. They needed more time to learn and hone managerial skills. Moreover, the very idea of partition would prove more catastrophic for Tej and Om's relationship. Already it was on rocky roads. Shivay was the blue-eyed boy of Jhanvi too. Tej had always accused Janhvi of not nurturing Om and Rudra the way she had nurtured Shivay. Shivay's business sense was actually groomed by Janhvi. Shakti had hardly anything to do with business he was mostly busy with his own personal goals. He looked after the accounts of Oberoi Industries and dealt with Taxation and other legal issues but he was not an active player in business propagation.

Rudra once again told Shivay that they should leave. Shivay did not know how to bring this out but he was still stealing glances at the table behind Rudra. The people there were onto their dessert. He saw her taking her own sweet time to lick the nonexistent traces of kulfi from the spoon. The sheer bliss that was visible on her face could be a balm on a scorched soul like Shivay. He had actually lost interest in anything but his business. Simple things like that gave him no joy anymore. Seeing him smile like that Rudra turned to look at the source and he too chuckled at the animated way in which Anika was enjoying the kulfi. She was saying something and Ragini had just giggled. Their table bubbled with joy and Rudra felt envious. Then it struck him why Shivay was stuck in this place but he needed to confirm.

"Bhaiya if we are ready to go then I will ask Anika didi to join us.

"Then ask her, we won't sit here the entire night for her to finish that damned kulfi. He finally got that opportunity that he was looking for and he grabbed it.

"I will go and ask her myself.

Shivay saw Rudra going to Samar's table and after ages, he felt his pulse racing in anticipation. He knew that Anika would not come with them after all he had been no less than a brute to her. Still, he hoped that Rudra the charmer amongst the Obros would be able to cast his spell for him. He gazed at them without blinking his eyes as if they were watching the last few overs of a nail-biting cricket match. It struck him it had been long ago when he last had the luxury of watching a cricket match. Even though they had a team play in Indian State league, but that was again a business investment and Rudra actually took care of it. He saw Anika shaking her head in a no and then Rudra saying something to her again. To which she gently touched him on his shoulders and Shivay got a glimpse of her lean thin fingers and her wrist adorned with weird dangling moons. Rudra hugged her and Shivay knew she was not coming with them. He let out the breath that he had been holding, while he had wanted her to come with them but intrinsically he was happy that she had denied. Her strong character was visible in that denial. For a second when Anika's eyes rested on him he smiled his trademark invisible smile with a slight tilt of his head which Anika chose to ignore. Not because she was feeling gracious but because she did not know what to construe from that gesture. This person was the biggest puzzle she had ever come across. She had seen more than her fair share of strange people but Shivay was altogether a new breed that she had come across. He poked her for no fault of hers, he pushed her around, he was rude, obnoxious yet he was vulnerable in pain, gentle when needed and chivalrous in his own wacky way. She could not resist a smile at the very thought of him trying to wipe away his ugly smelling scotch from her shoulders as if his skin had the ability to absorb the liquid.

While Anika was a woman who had survived this brutal world with her dignity intact by sheer intelligence and quick wit, yet there were times when she construed things clearly out of their line. If she could have understood that spell under which Shivay had tried to wipe those enticing droplets of liquid of her neck and shoulder, she would not have stopped on a mere thwack on his wrist, instead, would have slapped him. That is a different story, that destiny was chanting a very different mantra and soon she would not only learn the intentions behind Shivay's attempt to touch her but would also experience it in ways much more than she could have ever contemplated. Acceptance won't come easily to her either but destiny knows how to force itself on anyone, she was a mere feeble human, there was no escaping for her or for Shivay.

Chapter 23

Women and their mysterious ways

Rudra entered Om's room and saw him lying on his bed. Facing away from him and busy with his pencil Om did not sense anyone entering his room. Rudra peeped from over the top and a smile danced on his lips. Om was drawing the two most beautiful eyes one had ever seen. Big, lined thickly with kajal and their shape was absolutely unique. Poets could compare such a shape to the eyes of a doe but no they were just different containing two darkest orbs Rudra had ever seen, shrouding the bearer of these eyes in a cloud of dark mystery. It appeared as if they held within it the secrets of faraway lands, lands which were ruled by angels and beasts, a land where unicorns and dragons locked horns, a land where ocean and mountains meet. The bearer of these loveliest and mysterious eyes had captured Om's heart and only Rudra was privy to the entire drama that had unfolded right under their nose leaving Om in a mess. Even Shivay was not aware of the extent to which Om was invested in these two eyes.

Om had gone to Bareily a small town in the foothills of Himalayas, well not exactly foothills, but it is from here that the ascent of the youngest and tallest mountain range of the world begins. It is actually a town where handicraft has thrived from historical times. This was the place where the intricate zardosi and zari work had thrived once. There would be not an Indian bride who would not love to have something in her trousseau from this city. Omkara had been associated with the revival of this industry. An artist at heart he loved art in every form so when his friend Riddhima had asked him to support her in her attempt to revive this industry in the upcoming town. Omkara had submerged himself in this job wholeheartedly. Riddhima was a fashion designer and her forthcoming 2017/2018 fall/winter collection was an ode to this extremely detailed and intricate art. He had visited Bareilly during the December of 2015. It is this place that had landed him in this beautiful mess called Gauri Kumari Sharma.

"That eye won't blink, no matter how many times you trace it with your pencil or your fingers.

"This was supposed to be my private moment.

"Ok just so that you know making love with your sketchbook will always be just not real.

"Shut up Rudy. Om knew Rudra said what-ever he did in good humor, not in an obnoxious way.

"So what's the news? Why did she not come with you?

"Don't know she just said that they had a big meeting tomorrow and she needs to iron out the details with Samar. Before you ask me they are not dating.

"How can you be so sure?

"One Samar is engaged to Ragini and he is a gentleman actually much more decent than all three of us combined. Two, I have an intrinsic eye that sees everything associated with men and women with absolute precision.

"I agree with you on both counts but I don't understand what meeting can doctors have? I mean don't they take decisions right then and there as per the need of the hour, based on diagnostics. Why would she need to prepare?

"Don't know could be a job interview but it would be better if she told us. We could help her with a job, couldn't we?

Omkara just nodded in silence waiting for Rudra to continue and tell him the next part of the tale. There had to be the next part why else would Rudra look so contemplative.

"You know, Bhaiya ka aaj ek naya hi side dekha maine. Never seen him so distracted and trust me O' he was distracted all evening. He kept looking here and there, either kept quiet or said things which were so mundane. No business lessons today even while we drove back he was mostly in his own world.

"I know Rudy. He has been like that the whole day as if he has been transported to some other plain altogether.

"Do you think he is upset about this deal?

"Could be but I personally don't think it is that. He looks very distracted from Tia though he was never really into her he never ran away from her. Since yesterday it looks like he is having second thoughts about her or he is evaluating her a lot.

"Yeh second thoughts kal se nahi shuru huey hain actually it had been there for about more than fort night now.

"What! Rudy what makes you think so?

"Wo kya hai O you are a poet so you want to believe he is struck by something, no someone called Anika and so he is having second thoughts. It is not so Mr. Poet, Shivay Singh Oberoi is made of sterner stuff. Actually about a couple of weeks back she had somewhat sidelined dadi during that decoration for that Pooja we had on dadu's birthday. He did not say anything but he was royally pissed off. You know how he recoils before attacking. Then the next day Tia had a minor tiff with Khanna also. She actually was very rude to him. She tends to get in tiffs with our staff quite often. Khair the hit, is yet to come.

"There is more!?

" 'O' Bada wala more. Tujhey to pata hai how bhaiya relies on Neil and Neil is Shivay Bhaiya's Right hand, though he doesn't trust him blindly but Neil has proved to be above all doubts. Hua yeh ki we were all in a closed door meeting for this deal about ten days back. Neil and bhaiya had instructed Sanvi (receptionist) to not allow anyone even family in. Papa and chotey papa were already with us.

"I remember there was someone who wanted to meet Shivay. Sanvi had called on the intercom upsetting Shivay bigtime, so much so that Shivay had barely refrained from sacking her.

"Yes and Neil was sent out to handle it. Actually, Tia had come and she had bullied poor girl into calling Shivay bhaiya. When Neil told her that this meeting was highly confidential and that all the non-involved family was not allowed in it including dadi and choti ma, she became really upset. Neil even showed her the email that Shivay bhaiya had sent out to him so that he could issue the directions to the staff. She got really upset with Neil. She tried to talk Shivay bhaiya into reprimanding Neil. I have also learned through my sources that she has been targeting Neil for quite some time now. So while Anika could be a slight distraction but it is Tia who has managed to ruffle his calm.

"How do you know all this and I don't? Om was much more than shocked at this revelation.

"Because I talk in common man language, unlike yours super literary one. Kabhi kavitaon ki tang galiyon se bahar khuli hava mein saans loge tab kuch samajh aayega na kavi maharaj. Rudra once again said to a somewhat deflated O'.

"Every dog has his day Rudy bro aaj tera hai. Enjoy! It is a rare occurrence.

"You know I have a great heart..

"Huge heart, big Heart. Om corrected

"Whatever, Just so that you feel a little better Shivay bhaiya is not absolutely free of Anika didi though not smitten. I am afraid he appears to be more like irritated.

"kahan hai Shivay? Tum log ke saath kyoun nahi? Pinky said entering into Om's room.

Chapter 24

The making of the Great Wall

This was her daily routine before calling it a day she always came to check on the four of them in their usual place, Om's room. She would also enjoy their light-hearted banter for a few moments otherwise the entire day she hardly got to see them. Pinky's entire world revolved around her family, her favorite was Rudra. It was Pinky who had sheltered Rudra from a very confusing childhood. His parents never had a marriage full of love and trust. Tej Singh Oberoi was an ambitious man and in his early days had got quite a few successes. He then had fallen for Janhavi only daughter of a fellow business Tycoon. She had been looking after her family business which dealt in pharmaceuticals. She was a very smart lady and they had a whirlwind of an affair. Once married every-thing remained hunky dory till Omkara was born. Their marriage had seen many women come in and go. Every woman that went took a piece of Janhavi and Tej's marriage with her. At the time of Prinku's birth Janhavi had started the Oberoi Airlines. Om was the worst hit by the happenings between their parents. By the time Om was 15 he started consuming recreational drugs. This took a toll on the entire family Shivay 18 at that time suddenly grew up by at least a decade feeling responsible for not taking care of his younger siblings. Prinku's overall personality took a deep dive due to all this. She lacked confidence and stammered. Her academic performance was suffering. Her results started becoming an eyesore. They all responded differently to both Janhavi and Tej. The only person who remained undeterred in all this was Pinky and since Rudra was excessively close to Pinky he too remained strong. Janhavi though had to withdraw herself from business to help Omkara and Prinku. A new CEO was appointed for Oberoi Airlines. The CEO Mr. Arjun Kapur had a daughter Svetlana fit to be called a siren. It did not take much time for Svetlana to literally pull Tej into her net, trap whatever you deem it fit to call. He was the whale she had been looking for. While most of Tej's flings had been just that, fling this one became not only notoriously popular amongst the paparazzi but also became the reason behind Tej's downfall thereby causing the entire family not only their peace but also their business. Svetlana was still in the picture just taken a back seat, since Shivay took over the business operations. Shivay's rise to the fore also was taken with a bit of salt by Tej. Shivay had done away with Svetlana in a very diplomatic way. Since most of the Oberoi industries had taken a fall, so had Oberoi Airlines. Shivay knew sacking Mr. Kapoor would be like locking horns with badey papa in the open. He pushed Mr. Kapoor to take a position as director, though he had the smallest amount invested in Oberoi Group hardly 2 percent thus he was able to ward off a war at home in every capacity. With Mr. Kapoor now no more an active business decision maker he did not have to be present in the office every day and hence his daughter too had to take a back seat. No more papa's lunches were converted to couple lunches. No more came to see papa to socha tumhe bhi hi bol doon, no more afternoon interludes. Janhavi took back her position as the CEO and founder of Oberoi Airlines.

Meanwhile, to bring Svetlana's real face in open, Shivay casted his own net, pulling her towards him. She was atleast 9 years his senior but Shivay played his cards with such accuracy and spontaneity that she never got a chance to think. As if hypnotized, she did what Shivay wanted her to do. He shuddered when he recalled his intimate interlude with her on that Sunday afternoon, It had sickened him to the core because in his mind it was literally incestuous, a sin actually. After, all she was his Badey Papa's mistress. He had arranged for that interlude to be recorded. All the crass that was in her mind in relation to Tej, Shivay had made her confess. He still recalled every detail to the last letter. He had used the recording to make Mr. Kapoor surrender his share in favor of Janhavi, Gave him retirement fund and a humble abode in Queens, New York. He had helped him open an Indian grocery store in New York and shipped his daughter along with him. That snake of a woman though had showed her fangs for one last time, before leaving, an edited part of the video she had released to the media, that too just an hour before he was about to declare the public issue of Oberoi Inficom.

At twenty two years of age, Shivay bore that ignominy and pain with a stoic silence. The entire house hold had experienced Tej Singh Oberoi's uninhibited wrath that day. Shivay had borne all the abuses and insults with meditative silence and closed eyes. It was as if nothing bothered him anymore, neither ignominy nor honors, neither pain nor deliverance, neither anger nor equanimity, neither bliss nor agony. In that single day, he had aged atleast by 20 years. Pinky had been a pillar once again to the family that day, even though Tej had sliced her heart into bits and scattered it all over and she would never be able to collect those pieces back. Since that day while the Oberoi Empire achieved new skies and soared higher but her home remained shattered. Shakti had raised his voice in his son's defense and not only his voice for the first time he had raised his hand. The gap between the two brothers reached a point of no return that day. Shivay had slyly been preparing for all this since quite some time. He had sent Omkara and Rudra off to USA and there also they were put up with Mallika his childhood sweetheart. They had broken up even before they could come together in any sense of reality because Mallika was clear that she would never be able to be that half that would shoulder the broken home. Shivay needed much more of a woman than Mallika or he needed merely an arm candy which to him Tia was. They were best of friends still and she was happily married to a software giant in Silicon Valley.

Prinku was with her grandparents duly concealed and protected from the barbs of the world. Shivay remembered vividly when that night after all the drama was done with, he was trying to sleep or rather faking sleep Pinky had entered his room. She had silently cried he knew that, he also knew that his mom had tried to be strong. She had placed her quivering hands on his forehead, Shivay had wanted to tell her that he was alright and she should not worry about him. Instead he stay put without any movement. He even held his breath as if trying to push her away. That night he once again had blamed his mom for all that was happening to him. He was but a human who was flawed, who was weak, who was judgmental, who expected things from people most dear, and who hurt them without a second thought. That day Once again Pinky felt defeated for while Shivay had raised his stature as a son realistically, he was emotionally as far away from her as Sun was from earth. His warmth did warm her up but he was so hot that his proximity always left her scarred and charred.

Pinky unlike Janhavi was not well educated. She had mostly kept herself at home. Shivay always felt had, she not been the way she was probably his father would have been a different person. She lacked grooming always decked in garish jewelry and gaudy clothes. Her language peppered with illogical and grammatically wrong words made her entirely unsuitable for social circles. The way Pinky conducted herself inside and outside home, made Shivay shudder with repulsion at times. It is not that he did not love her, he believed she just did not try hard enough. She gave up much too soon. Then came the fact that even under her vigilance Om resorted to drugs and that broke whatever little faith Shivay had on his mom.

"Mujhey pata hai tu is sab ka responsibles mujhey manta hai. Shayad main hoon bhi par Shivay aisa nahi hai ki maine koshish nahi ki. Tu nahi dekh sakta na sahi, tu nahi samajh sakta na sahi par aaj jo kuch tune kiya mujhey tujhpar bahut prouds hai. Shivay tu shayad nahi manega ki teri parvarish mein mera haath hai par aaj mujhey meri parvarish par bahut prouds hai. She had said that and left. Her voice had been damp and shaky and had soaked Shivay to some extent, but the problem was in an effort to protect his heart from all that broke and shattered around him, he had placed his heart in an iron casket and buried it there, where, it could never be located again. It is not that he did not love her or did not care for her but it is just that he grew apart from her. He always wondered had she been better educated and better groomed possibly his dad would have been more into this world. Had he been into business, perhaps times would have not taken such a dip. He did not blame her but he was excessively critical when it came to Pinky. The worst part as well as the best part for Pinky about this entire issue was that this equation between her son and her was between them alone. For the world they were the best and envy worthy example of mother and son.

He still vividly recalled every one's reactions when he had expressed his desire to join business at a very young age of nineteen.

His bade papa had mocked him instead of being supportive of his Idea,

"You think managing business is a kids game? What qualification do you have to shoulder such responsibility? I mean literally. Just a commerce graduate hahaha even our peon is commerce Graduate Shivay His jibe and insult reverberated in his heart even today.

"Shivay I have never stopped you from anything that you have wanted to do. You have excelled in every thing that you done till date I am sure you will this time too. This came from his cool and composed dad who did not think twice before putting him in an ocean full of sharks. He did not even care to see if his son had the ability to swim let alone defeat the raging sharks.

"Shivay tu mera gurur hai mujhey confidence hai ki ab sab theek ho jayega. Pinky in her hopes and desperation had forgotten that Shivay was merely nineteen. He had wanted to go to Harvard to study Business administration. He had confided in her before but she conveniently forgot. He felt betrayed even if for the sake of saying had her mother tried to stop him he would have had a sense of belonging.

It was only Janhavi who had tried to stop him from joining business "Shivay I have no doubts about your abilities and intelligence but you are too young and you still need to complete your education. I cannot let you do this to yourself. For a minute Shivay had thought he heard wrong so he had stuttered for the first time in his life.

"Ba..badi Ma Mujhey lagta hai ki main handle kar loonga.

"Mujhey bhi aisa lagta hai Shivay but you are too young, still a teen I would want you to enjoy this age. Go for higher education. Then come back to this nest of ours no matter how broken it is. It still can wait.

"Badi ma I have made my decision.

"Jethani ji mujhey lagta hai Shivay jo kar raha hai wo sahi kar raha hai.

"Mujhey aisa nahi lagta Pinky. Janhavi had insisted but then she saw a retreating Shivay She knew there was no use fighting a lost battle. Shivay had taken every one by surprise when he had floated his own company Oberoi Inficom the next day he joined Oberoi industries. Within two years it became profitable enough to sustain not only itself but also to provide funds to help the other ailing Oberoi industries. In the third year, Shivay had launched the public Issue of Shivay Inficom. In these three years, he had also saved many of his sick companies and turned them around. He had an inherent understanding of business. He was a quick learner. Under the tutelage of Janhavi he had not only honed his skills but had sharpened his business acumen so much so that he could foresee and predict the outcome of any decision much in advance. He understood the pulse of the market and knew how to channelize his resources in the right direction. The profits grew, and the small house of industries became an Empire. Shivay reveled in his victories but he slowly lost touch the with human Shivay was.

Not only Janhavi but Omkara Rudra and dadi had tried to stop him from joining business so early. Omkara had also promised him that he would join a rehab and rid himself of Drugs. He had expected all of these people to support his decision but they had not. Shivay was one who stood for family and this concern of Om and Rudra for him had made him a sworn protector of his siblings. He treated them like his own babies. There was not a day now that Shivay discreetly did not check on Om some times even going through his drawers and belongings. Om was 3 years his junior and Rudy six years and Prinku nine years, but he treated them like they were three, six and nine. The trio instead of protesting against Shivay's unnecessary meddling actually enjoyed and relished it. Thus Shivay became the great wall of Shivay Singh Oberoi, a stone, a wall and iron man in every sense.

Being honest I would tell you that it was Anika's profession which attracted to the story.

I am so sorry I think I missed your post, didn't I?
Why a Doctor? medical profession and study of human body intrigue me. I myself never had the courage to think about this as a career choice, but I do admire the profession a lot. I also understand that while there is a lot of nobility attached to this profession in people's minds but that is mostly an idea. There is a very starkly real and gray side associated with it too. So in all, we can safely say that this is one profession that is thrilling, adventures, gloomy, depressing, hope-instilling, inspiring, life-giving all at the same time. I also believe in industries and business as such. It gives people their livelihoods, dreams, along with a lot of grayness and so much more. I wanted Anika to have something as challenging as a business, as a profession. I wanted Anika and Shivay to be equals even if opposite, so Anika became a doctor

Thank you for reading the story and giving me a feedback. It means a lot to me.
