Chapter 12
Pins and Needles
Shivay had heard faint sounds and woke up from his restless sleep. Shivay was a very light sleeper, even a butterfly fluttering her wings could wake him up. Lights in his room was still on, and he was sleeping with a brown folder on his chest. His reverie was broken by a thud and clatter. He sprang to action certain that someone had entered the living room . All the family members had their rooms on the first floor except Dadi and a few guest rooms. The very thought of Dadi getting hurt buy something made him feel his ataxia thing coming back he ran downstairs. Had he not got those laser sharp reflexes he sure would have kissed the ground quite violently because he stumbled upon a trembling and violently sobbing bundle of white fabric on the ground. It was quite dark here and the only light that filtered through was from the lamp in his room. It was dim but yet bright enough to tell him that the crumpled bundle of fabric was Anika. He just wanted to run back to his room before he messed up with her again. He had promised himself to stay away from her because he had no idea why he hated her with all that was in him. His next step though brought his plan tumbling down because he stepped on something sticky and warm. He was sure it should not have been there so he crouched down next to Anika to notice that she was not only sobbing but was hallucinating. Something had scared her that much was clear, he was also certain that she had somehow managed inflict herself a wound that was bleeding quite heavily. Not only her clothes but also the carpet was soaked in blood and this was exactly why he felt something sticky under his toes. As if he was automated to do it he picked her up like a dainty little girl who weighed nothing and brought her to his room. His heart had taken over his mind at this moment all he thought was to relieve her of her pain. He placed her on the bed as gently as he could.
She looked more relaxed now though it appeared she had passed out. He thought of calling the doctor but then a girl in his room at this hour of the night would make the doctor conclude that which was nowhere close to reality. He studied her form carefully and noticed that the blood was mostly accumulated at the lower part of her leg, it meant her lower leg was hurt. He went to bring his mother to his room.
Pinky felt a tap on her shoulder it took her a few moments to come into present as she was in deep sleep. Seeing Shivay's grey eyes piercing a hole into her own she sat up with a start. Before she could scream he placed his hand on her mouth and requested her to come with him. When she reached his room in the light she could see his kurta had blood stains on it. In panick she rushed to him to check if he had wounded himself but then a white mass on his blue sheets caught her sight and her eyes grew as big as that of tennis balls.
"Yeh kya kiya tune Shivay? Oh My Mata yeh kaun hai? Pinki was far more than panicked now. She thought exactly that which Shivay had apprehended.
"Mom, Mom listen to me! He had to raise his tone or she would have raised hell single handedly.
"Kya listens karoon main tune is ladki ko maar diya! Oh My Mata meri itne dino ki upbringings kay eh sila diya tune Shivay? She looked dejected and Shivay couldn't believe that his hyper dramatic mom could even imagine him murdering any one.
"Mom!! She is not dead!! Yeh gir gayi thi mera matlab mujhko neeche seedhi ke paas giri hui milli aise, so I brought her up Shivay tried to calm down Pinky
"Hain aise? Is types mein? Koi house mein ghus to nahi aaya? Is bechari ko kaun attacks kar gaya? Pinky's Bollywood influence again surfaced.
"Ma nahi aisa kuch nahi hua hai baton mein time mat waste kariye do something. She has lost lots of blood.
"Main? Main kya karoon? Doctor ko bula bevakuf. Mujhey to kuch bhi samajh nahi aaraha hai yeh hua kya hai? She came and sat next to Anika.
"Ma aap yeh sab soch rahi hai, doctor aayega to jaane kya kya sochega aur if something is revealed to the outside world she will unnecessary be on the chopping block. I don't want that.
"Keh to tu theek raha hai. Sun tu Priyanka ko phone laga usko poochtey hain kya karna chahiye.
"Arrey mom please just look at her leg. She got injured by that floor lamp. We just need to bandage it baki kal subah doctor ko dikhwa deinge. He was getting frustrated now. Pinky started to look for the wound on her leg and then moved back with a scream
"Oh my Mata Shivay!! Iske pair mein to kach ghusa hua hai. Sun paas mein jo Hospital hai vahan le chaltey hain manin saath mein houngi to koi kuch nahi bolega aur koi hath ki nas thodi kati hai jo koi suicides samjhega. While that big a monologue would have been entertaining at some other time, for now it was irritating Shivay, though on retrospect his mother made perfect sense because when he inspected her wound, it did need medical attention. He immediately picked her up and asked Pinky to come along.
"arrey main kapde...
"She has lost a lot of blood if she dies then we will have a bloody hot mess to handle.
"Haan to chal na itni English kyon bolne lagta hai. Bhagwaan na karey maregi kyon itni pyarri hai. Kuch bhi Pinky affectionately placed her hand on Anika's head while Shivay rushed down with her as if she weighed nothing.
Once in the hospital she was given due medical care. She had gained consciousness but was week and remained silent. The slit that she had on her calf muscle had to be incised a little more so that they could take the glass out easily. The minute the doctor snipped the wound further with the scissor Shivay lost his patience.
"What the hell? How can you be so ruthless give her some anesthesia or something. He screamed out loud.
"She has been given local anesthesia Mr Oberoi.
"What local? She is wide awake, atleast let that anesthesia kick in. He was feeling too week to see any more of that blood.
"Mr Oberoi local anesthesia numbs locally I don't need to be put off for such a little injury. I am not feeling anything. Shivay just nodded and stood behind his mom trying to not look at the wound.
"Tu bahar ja Shivay. Shivay continued to give her wound side glances but denied to move out. The scissor made another snip sound and Shivay placed his hand on his eyes.
"Yeh mar daaleinge kya isko. Mar gayi to bhuchal aa jayega. Shivay whispered to his mom. His mom reassured him again and asked him to look at Anika's calm looking face. She tried to reason with him that had she been feeling pain she would have not been sitting so calmly.
"You take deep breaths Mr Oberoi, otherwise you will have one of your attacks yet again. Anika tried to distract him because his attitude was unnerving the doctor as well.
"You keep your mouth shut okay. The only thing was he could not keep his mouth shut because when the doctor pulled the shard out instead of Anika he hissed. Pinky was constantly rubbing his back trying to soothe him and Anika even with all this going on was finding it difficult to hold back her laughter. The great Shivay Singh Oberoi was actually a baby, Tia was right to call him so. She thought to herself.
"Are you watching a comedy that you are smiling so? He asked failing to understand what made her smile from ear to ear. When she nodded her head to say yes he turned around to check where the TV was and Anika bursted into full blown laughter. The worst part was Pinky joined in and he could not understand what they were laughing at.
"What is that hook for? He asked looking pale with fear as the doctor pulled out a small hook that had some kind of a fibre attached to it.
"It is a needle to give her suture. The doctor replied and Shivay swallowed trying to stay strong as in his mind he was the man and he needed to be there. He started to count in his mind so as to divert himself and not look at the procedure. He just did not understand why they did not do this in the operation theater. He made it a point that he would never come to this hospital ever, they were just incompetent. By the time he finished counting till 1000 the doctor announced himself done, Shivay let out a breath that he was holding. Anika was free to go back home, though Anika was feeling excessively unhappy about everything. She never liked imposing on anyone and here she had literally crashed into this person not once but twice in the same day. She was deep in her thoughts when she felt an arm under her unclothed knees and for the first time she felt as if a spark of electricity coursed through her veins.
"Arrey kya kar rahey hain aap? Main chal sakti hoon . She pushed his hand away.
"Tujhey utha ke bhi yahi laya tha bacche. Pinky intertwined in between another bout of argument trying to tell her that it was ok.
"Wo main tab hosh mein nahi thi Pinky aunty par ab theek hoon.
"Theek kya khak hai itni to stitches aayi hain Pinky again said. "Utha Shivay tu utha isko.
"Ek, ek minute main khadi hoke dekhti hoon. Anika tried to buy some time but even before she could touch ground with her feet she was picked up and before she could once again voice her complain she was dumped in to the front seat of the car. She decided to keep her mouth shut as she was feeling extremely uncomfortable one, because she felt she had burdened someone on her behalf. Two because her chudidar was now more like shorts as they had been torn to give her these stitches. She did still have her huge anarkali on thankfully but still she was tremendously unsettled.
"Anika tu giri kaise thi? Anika came back to earth when Pinky asked her this question.
"Wo Aunty mujhey andhere se bahut dar lagta hai Main wo kamrey mein light jala ke soyi thi par jab aankh khuli to bilkul andhera tha aur main dar kar jahan thodi light dikhi udhar bhagi par par phir gir gayi phir hospital mein uthi. Anika narrated the entire episode without taking a break or breath.
"Arrey tum to saans lena hi bhul gayi phir dar gayi kya? Pinky said laughingly as Shivay brought the car home. He had driven at a very low speed so as to not hurt Anika.
"Shivay tu isko Guest room tak pahuchadega?
"Main Chali jaongi Pinky Aunty.
"Shivay tu Omru Ke saath so jaana main kal tera room saaf karva doongi Pinky said leaving both of them to fend for themselves or each other it was already nearly 2:00 AM in the morning and she needed to sleep.
Anika had stepped out of the car with little difficulty and was walking quite alright when she felt his presence behind her.
" Main chal sakti hoon. Thankyou for all this. I am sorry to trouble you. She said trying to pass the olive branch to him. What she did not understand was that Shivay was drawn to her like a moth to the flame, he knew that and disliked the fact but there was little he could do about it. It was essential for him to see to her safety. So he tried picking her up but she was a girl with her own mind.
"Aap Veer nahi aur main Zara nahi hain, to main chali jaongi. She said and limped towards her room and Shivay let her waiting for her to fumble with the darkness once again inside. He had only counted till 50 when he heard a thud again and he ran towards her. He found her groping her way in the dark and trying to fight her fear.
"I am right behind you. His tone was reassuring
"Mere peeche mat chaliye, mujhey dar lagta hai.
"Mujhse darr lagta hai? He felt hurt that she was scared of him "Then follow me He literally ordered but Anika was by now breathing hard and losing control. So he switched on the flash light on his phone. The light gave her some reprieve and even before she could blink he had switched on the lights of the living room. Anika released the breath she had been holding for so long. He waited for her to reach her room and switch on the lights and he left for Omru's room to sleep the rest of the night.
