Chapter 11
Midnight interlude
It was near midnight and the entire Oberoi Mansion had plunged into deep slumber except some youthful and dreamy souls. Some who dreamt of love and some who dreamt of accomplishments. Some whose dreams were full of colors and some who preferred them monochrome. The only issue was while these souls did dream they themselves never knew how interwoven their dreams were. Well how could they know the universe as Tia called it had till date kept these two embers of fire lodged deep into two separate pits, but the time had come for them to seek their own destiny. They felt that coming together would mean annihilation but the universe had separate plans it was conspiring in every which way to end their separation for it knew that being together would mean completion for them. It is never a question of what one wants, one gets whatever the destiny wants to give. Shivay the fiercely logical, extremely arrogant was about to get an awakening of life time. One who believed in that, man is the creator of his own fortune was about learn that it was always "God proposes and man disposes.
She felt as if she had swallowed dry hot sand. Her throat stung and she woke up coughing hard. It took effort to breathe; her body shuddered and shook on its own accord. She tried to voluntarily dilate her pupils to find some source of light that could dispel this darkness and placate her turbulently beating heart. She saw a flicker of hope diagonally above her and she took a deep breath she needed to get to that window or door or whatever it was. Her mind told her once in light she would be out of this severely strong spell of darkness. Jumping out of the bed she stretched both her hands groping her way in darkness she herself did not know how many times she stumbled and how many times she bumped all that was known to her was that flickering dim light in the distance that she wanted to reach before the ghosts of the darkness engulfed her.
The door to her deliverance was high up but then it was not new it always was above in the sky and there never was a flight of stairs to help her reach that source of light. Every time she had tried she had miserably failed and ended up in some or the other corner of this atrocious world all by her-self, trembling and shaking till the sun itself dusted the last remnants of darkness away. Such night's filled darkness and soaked in tears were a part of Anika's not so normal life. In her chase for that distant light she did not know when she had tumbled into the huge floor lamp in the living room which came crashing down with a loud thud. She was once again lying there somewhere on the floor her leg hurt, probably bleeding but fear that gripped her was far stronger than the pain. She had tried to scream for help but her voice died within her chest. She could no more fight, could not more stand up, too weak to even dream of that light any more she succumbed once again to the darkness. The floor felt cold and she curled up more into herself trying to keep warm. She could see nothing, hear nothing but suddenly she felt warmth on her face. Someone had tried to remove the thick curtain of her raven tresses from her face or was it all a dream? Did she die for no one had ever tended to her with such care. Probably this time the lord above felt her agony and had called her to him. Contended that she was in the hands of her Lord Anika closed her eyes and let him take over, liberated from fear, hope or expectation. Just contended that he finally came to her rescue after all she had been waiting for so long.
