I mean man, how could you even give the stash of guilty pleasures, the label of some freak diet and that too with such a conviction. I am sure the owner of the publishing company must be wailing out loud if he happen to hear what this hyderabadi munda had to say.

Geet was ever charming and quirky. Mai disclosed her secret so nonchalantly.
I will kill to have glimpse of Maan's face when he comprehended the story behind his latest nickname by the 15 year old brat .

Let's see how the so-not- senior deals with the brat.

Stash of such guilty pleasure they absolutely were. Suddenly we graduated from the pale barely there romance of Nancy Drew and her boyfriend Nick and now it was all about the feisty heroines and domineering heroes(btw I would kick each of their butts to devil's paradise if they appeared before me today)

They were such chauvinistic nimnods. 😆

Gee. Glad you are enjoying this tale of ...I am still not quite sure myself what I am to call this stuff I am dishing out😆

I had lots of fun reading this part!!

Knight on Ninety Horses

Chapter 5

The smell of the fried fish was making his olfactory nerves twitch desperately. He was taking in shallow breaths so that the odor would not overwhelm him.

Handa uncle was chattering dime to a dozen, while picking the fish off the bones and depositing it in Maan's plate.

"Maan it is a sacrilege to visit Goa and not try the staple food of Goans... rice, fish curry and fried fish. Since this is your first time eating it, I am helping you with it. Please enjoy."

Enjoy? How the hell was he supposed to enjoy the smelly feast before him? Never in his life before had he tasted fish and he was now sure that he hadn't missed out on much by not eating it.

"Mohinder ji give him a break. He might not like fish for all you know. Let him choose what he wants to eat." Rano aunty pointed out gently.

Maan looked at her with grateful eyes ready to eat whatever else that was available.

"Nonsense Rano. I am sure he is fine and enjoying the fare. Aren't you Maan?" He was unsure how he was to deny his uncle's enthusiastic hospitality.

Rano aunty went into the kitchen to replenish the dal. Meera was busy concentrating on her portion of fish and so was uncle...finally.

He heaved a small sigh of relief and pushed the lump of fish to one side of his plate and covered it with a roti. Exactly at that moment, his gaze fell on the younger Handa brat who was grinning at him from her seat beside him. Damn it all. Why did she have to be the one to witness his embarrassing moment.

He had noticed that she had wrinkled her nose and vehemently refused when her mom had tried to serve her some fish. Well, at least they had that much in common. She cleared her throat and opened her mouth and he was damned sure she was going to say something that was going to give him away. If only he had refused the fish in the beginning itself.

He waited with baited breath to see what she said.

"Hmm today's dal is lovely mamma and so is the vegetable curry." She called out loudly.

Then she turned towards him.

"Well papa has shown you the favorite food of Goa, but I have to show you my favorite way of eating dal and veg curry Maan. This also I have learnt from papa. Am I right papa?"

Mohinder uncle looked up at her momentarily and smiled his approval.

"But Geet he might want to try some more fish..." He trailed off as Maan jumped in firmly.

"No uncle. I think I would really like to try some of auntie's dal and vegetables."

"As you wish Maan." Uncle nodded and concentrated on his fish again while Maan narrowed his eyes at the girl beside him and waited warily.

"Mamma can you get a fresh plate for Maan? This plate is all fishy. Uhh!!" Geet called out to her mom.

In the next moment her hand sneaked out to his plate and she grabbed the roti that was covering the uneaten fish piled underneath it.

Maan held his breath for a moment unsure what she was playing at. She looked at his suspicious face and grinned. Then her right eye closed and opened in an elaborate wink and she lifted the whole thing from his plate in one swoop. The roti and the fish everything was gone.

However instead of depositing it in her own plate she pushed her hand under the table and dropped it.

Maan was startled as he felt something furry brush against his leg.

"Lucky Kapus. She seems to be enjoying a gourmet meal of Bombay duck and roti." She whispered to him and he couldn't hold back the squeaky laughter that burst from his throat that was part nervousness and part relief.

Meera looked at Geet with narrowed eyes to which the girl beside him looked back at her sister with wide-eyed innocence.

After a deliciously satisfying meal of hot dal mooshed together with roti, vegetable curry, pickle and papad drizzled all over with ghee ---a.k.a Geet style delicacy, Maan sat back with a satisfied sigh.

The next instant he was startled to feel a small hand take his own in hers and shake it vigorously at the success of the small stunt they had pulled.

They missed the wicked glint in Kapus's eyes as she saw the vigorous movement of the shaking hands before her. She licked her chops and pounced on the hands with glee, claws digging into the vulnerable skin of one hand.

"You traitor." Geet yelled at the cat who swished off arrogantly after a completely satisfying meal and she lifted Mana's hand that had an angry red line across the back where the cat had scratched him.

"Don't worry. She likes you very much. She does not even look at people she does not like. This is definitely a sign of her affection." Geet defended the cat while he looked up at her with a doubtfully raised eyebrow.

"Shut up Geet. How many times have I warned you not to throw scraps under the table to the cat. Now go fetch some spirit and betadine from the first aid box." Rano aunty's irritated voice called out.

"But it's all because of..." She glared at him but kept her mouth shut.

"And first aid for that puny scratch? Then what am I supposed to do? Bathe in the stuff? "

She lifted the sleeves of her long blouse and showed the fresh scratches she had endured earlier, along with older ones that had left faint marks in their wake all over her arms.

"And you haven't even seen the ones on my leg." She tried to lift her leg but stopped as Rano aunty slapped it down.

"Geet." Mohinder uncle called out warningly and she sighed and got up immediately to fetch the medication.

He bit his lip hard to keep the laughter that was frothing at his mouth.

He wasn't sure who was crazier, she or her cat.
