Never expected this from anjali as her mother had gone through this herself. This is one of the FF I really look forward to :)

Hi Taz 🤗 Great you read the whole story! Yes, Khushi has chosen a difficult path and when Arnav would be by her side, she surely can overcome any difficulty 😃 Anjali's behavior is somewhat due to Lavanya's bitchy nature 😳 I also look forward to your lovely comments 😃 Thank you 🤗

{Ch 14}

{Normalcy}

*NOT PROOF READ*

"You go, sleep. I will be back in an hour or so," Arnav said, going off to the airport to receive his sister and brother-in-law, who were back from Bangalore. He didn't want his sister to know that Mish was with him in the farmhouse, in an attempt to keep her calm and not start ranting against Khushi again.

Khushi went to her room and stared at the starry sky through the french windows. The events of the previous week started to revolve in front of her eyes. The next morning would see her start working again after a month and a half, and that inculcated a weird feeling down her gut.

She let out a sad laugh. Her life was so unpredictable. For one moment, it pushed her down, drained all her strength, made her feel terrible and the very next moment, it gave her all the strength in the world to fight against everything, every damn thing that brought her down. She was just a step away from giving up, like a thin, tiny thread holding her. When her husband was ready to snap off the thread, a person came and held it, strengthened it and made her realize how important was it to live, for herself.

She closed her eyes, letting the cool air hit her face.

"Will you marry me?" he asked, right after their convocation ceremony in university. She stared at the ring held between his fingers for a few minutes and then at him, too flustered to answer, "Khushi?"

"Yes" she softly answered, being embraced into a tight hug the very next minute.

Again, a soft laugh escaped her mouth, followed by a full-fledged laughter. Such a fool she was!

"We'll make the best couple ever, I promise," he kissed the back of her palm, caressing the texture of the new ring in her ring-finger.

"I love you," she whispered, leaning her head on his shoulder.

Her fingers curled and clutched the material of her suit. Liar!

"Shyamji, Jagdish kaka is here," she welcomed an elderly man inside, who limped with a pack of documents held under his arm.

"Welcome, please have a seat," he smiled, adjusting the cushion on the seat, where the man came and took a seat.

"Khushi bitiya, you also sit," he spoke after sitting down, "First, congratulations to both of you for your wedding!"

They both smiled and he reached out for her hand to intertwine his fingers with her's.

"So, Shyam beta, you might know, Khushi's father mentioned in his will that all his property and wealth will be distributed in between his only daughter, Khushi and her husband in a 60-40 ratio. Now that you both are married, you both have the option to claim the wealth. Do you want to?"

"I don't think we need--" she started, but was cut off by her husband.

"Yes, we will," he squeezed her hand and smiled, making her confused.

Her eyes turned red and hard, but she didn't cry this time. She wished she understood his game at that time. It was all so clear; the reason why he married her in a hurry, why he called her father's lawyer the very next day of their wedding and why he needed the money!

She breathed deeply and opened her eyes.

"Why don't you get it once that you won't step out of this house to earn?"

Her lips pursed with anger.

"Why do you think you need my permission? Or, for that matter, anyone's permission?"

She walked to the mirror, her breathing fast and shallow.

She stared into her eyes in the reflection and her anger subsided. A sense of peace shadowed over her face; such peace that she was searching for since days together.

She was right when she called herself a stupid to compare Arnav and Shyam. And she would be right when she makes up her mind to separate herself from her husband.

"You are not weak, so there will be problems. What matters is whether you stay strong or give up."

She opened her cupboard and extracted out the packet of divorce papers. Grabbing a pen, she twirled it in her fingers for a few seconds, before signing on top of her name.

*

Her job - the same job that pricked her husband's ego and made him destroy her - that very job inculcated an indescribable confidence within her as soon as she stepped in the building. The staff seemed changed, for she couldn't recognize a familiar face amongst the culinary staff, except for the head chef under whom she was previously working.

The moment she stepped out after a day's work, she saw a white SUV waiting right in front, with Arnav leaning against it. His arms, which were crossed close to his chest, quickly straightened as soon as he saw her coming out of the place.

"How was your day?" he asked, opening the door for her to get in.

"Why did you come? I could have managed," she uncomfortably looked at him, fastening her seat belt.

"I like it, Khushi, it's okay!" he smiled and nodded understandingly, "You tell me, how was your day?"

"It was good. Mathur ma'am, our head chef, recognized me in a minute!" She happily answered, her voice decreasing down suddenly, "Everything seems so normal now. Thank you, Arnav."

Arnav felt his heart swell with warmth. It felt so good that he wanted to scream. It felt like he had found where his happiness lied, in Khushi. Her happiness made him happy.

"Arnav?" Her voice brought him back, "Chalein?"

He cleared his throat, before nodding and starting the car.

"Um, Khushi? Today morning, when I went back after dropping you, I found the papers on the dining table.. signed," his tone had a question in it, and he saw Khushi's face become stern all of a sudden. He was beyond shocked when he first saw her sign on the papers; but soon his feeling of shock was drowned by a peaceful feeling of accomplishment. It was not like he selfishly wanted the divorce to happen for himself, but he genuinely, and maybe too selfishly, wanted Khushi's happiness.

"I have decided to give myself another chance. For once, it's not bad to live for oneself. Hai na?" She spoke and the look in her eyes melted him down. They were a window to her soul, longing for stability and happiness.

"Haan Khushi," his hand went involuntarily to tuck the loose hair strand behind her ear. He again cleared his throat, taking his hand back. Taking in a deep breath, he smiled, "Let's play a game?"

A soft chuckle left her lips, "game?"

"I'll tell you what all I know about you, and you do the same. Let's see how observant we are!"

"Coffee?" He asked, stopping in front of a small cafe, and she smiled meekly.

They both got out of the car and found a table in a corner, cozy and peaceful. Once they were seated and had placed the order, Arnav started,"I know you don't like mushrooms."

Khushi's brows rose in surprise, "How do you know that?"

"That was easy. The other day, when Hari kaka made mushrooms, you ate so little, just the gravy."

She smiled a little, her cheeks flushed.

"I know you love black color," she said after thinking for a minute, "Your wardrobe is filled with black colored clothes."

He threw his head back and laughed. She had to think about what she said that made him react in such a way.

"It's not like that. I have never bought anything for myself till date. It's always di or Aman. It must be a co-incidence that all my suits are black."

"Then which color do you like?" She softly asked, and waited for the waiter to place their coffee cups in front of them.

"Thank you," Arnav spoke and the waiter took leave, "Yes, what were you saying?"

And the awkwardness was back. She lowered her eyes and shook her head, "Nothing."

"I know you hate darkness," he said next and her face went pale. When she didn't lift her eyes to look at him, he tapped the table in front of her, "Khushi?"

"That's right," she nodded, lifting her eyes to look into his, "I am scared of being in dark."

"Then why you spent so much of your time in darkness?" He got reminded of the days when he used to come back to her room and find nothing but a faint figure sitting in darkness.

"It hid me from everyone. It hid me from myself, so that I don't hurt myself," she spoke almost inaudibly, clearing her throat at the end to get rid of the tears that choked her throat.

"Now you don't need to hide from anyone," he folded his arms on the table, tilting his head and smiling at her.

"I know," she lightly smiled back.

"Your turn!"

"Can we leave?" She asked and his heart dropped. Was she okay?

"Sure" he got up, walking to the billing counter to pay the bill, followed by her.

Back in the car, he looked at Khushi from the corner of his eye and saw her looking out of the window.

"I'm organizing a party for di and jijaji on their wedding anniversary, that is tomorrow."

"That's great!" She turned her head towards him and saw him looking ahead with narrowed eyes.

"So, try and be free from work by 5? You won't take more than two hours to get ready, right?" He spoke normally, hiding a smile behind his stern expression.

"I don't think I should come, Arnav. I don't know anyone there," she clasped her hands together, "And I don't take two hours to get ready!"

He let out a chuckle, "You know me. You know Mish. And you'll get to know others too. It will be fun!"

"Your family won't like it," she hesitantly questioned, feeling too unsure about meeting his family. As told by Hari Prakash, she knew that it was just his sister, brother-in-law and Mish in his family, but still she was apprehensive.

"I'll manage everything, Khushi. I'm the host and you - the host's close friend - are cordially invited!" He lifted the imaginary hat on his head and bowed his head, hearing a soft laugh from her side.

Shyam was money minded then. I have a feeling getting a divorce from him wont be this easy as he has to sign the documents as well. I cant wait for Khushi and Anjali coming face to face. Thats gonna be really interesting. Will she behave like Mamiji or will she behave decently? I'm glad Khushi moved on, it wont be easy to forget your first love, more so because they were married. But I know she'll replace all her bad memories with Arnav's good ones.
Wonderful shot! I think I'm gonna be greedy and request for the next installment asap

Wonderful update
Loved to see Khushi trying to move on in her life.
Shyam married Khushi for her money not because he loved her.
Wondering will Shyam easily agree to divorce Khushi without troubling her.
Is Khushi feeling guilty for not knowing anything about Arnav on the other side Arnav knew Khushi well.
Hope Lavanya doesn't hurt or insult Khushi with the help of Anjali at the party.
Thanks for the PM
