The Enigmatic Trek Guide

As the fire burnt with a soul-warming crackling sound and the songs flowed from the seated company, her eyes couldn't help but turn towards where he stood. The man who had led them down the mountain track and now stayed slightly apart, slightly detached, from the merry group. His dark eyes glistened in the firelight as he leaned against the tree, his arms bare to the chilly December wind.

Sensing her gaze, his eyes turned towards her, hooded and giving out no secrets. She smiled at him and he gave her a sight nod before moving away from the circle. She watched him walk towards the edge of the lake. Casting a quick look towards her friends, she got up and followed him.

"How many times a month do you make this trip?"

He started in surprise at her voice. His face tightened and there was a hint of a scowl on his forehead.

"Twice" he replied, tersely, looking away from her into the darkness that lay beyond the lake.

"And do you always stay away from the group or are we just particularly unpleasant company?"

Priyanka surprised herself with her boldness. Well, at least, he was now looking at her.

"This is a job. You all are my clients. I'm not here to socialise." His eyes never left her face as he spoke each word in a clipped tone.

Ho gaya begana main hosh se pehli dafa
Pyaar ko pehchana ehsaas hai yeh naya
