"There are so many channels and so many shows to watch that an actor gets lost in the crowd. People do notice you but they find it bit difficult to remember you after a while," says Puneet who has just returned from Dubai after shooting 26 episodes of the comic caper Dhak Dhak in Dubai. The show depicts the quandary of a Gujarati girl Sheetal who wants to marry a Punjabi boy, and Vir Singh who in turn wants to marry a rich Gujarati girl. Life turns topsy-turvy when Vir meets Sheetal and tries to woo her pretending to be a Gujarati. "It's a fun show that has a love square, chaos, confusion and lot of anecdotal humour," says Puneet who plays Vir in the show. "Vir is a good looking Punjabi boy who is a struggling pop singer and wants to cut an album. His ultimate dream is to marry a rich Gujju girl who would then finance his pop album and video in which she would feature with him. And when he meets Sheetal he finds her the perfect girl for marriage because she is rich and beautiful. But lots of problems crop up and Vir finds it quite difficult to convince Sheetal for marriage," elaborates Puneet. Talking further, he adds, "It's a high energy role. The show is light, fresh and different. Shooting in Dubai was also great fun." Since Puneet was doing Dulhan when he was offered to play Vir in Dhak Dhak in Dubai, he had to take a break from the former. Now that he is done with the shooting for the first season of the weekly comedy, he is all set to return in Dulhan next month where he plays a gangster from Banares who was in love with Vidya and followed her to Delhi after she married Sagar. "It's a nice negative role with a proper graph," adds Puneet who has done films like Himalaya Putra, Aflatoon, Taal and Josh. He found television a happening medium when his career in films didn't go northward. "It was pointless sitting on the sidelines and waiting for good roles because television was booming then," he recalls. From playing character roles in Kahiin Kissi Roz and Millie he graduated to lead roles in Koi Apna Sa and Kahiin To Milenge. "It's been a great experience playing varied roles. Television has kept me quite busy but my heart still beats for films," he says. His forthcoming films include Showbiz and USA. www.deccan.com |
