As you all can tell from the title, I am slightly disappointed and frustrated with this show which is why I decided to my first post in this forum. I really want this to be a healthy, meaningful discussion which can hopefully influence our Indian TV directors and writers. Please do not start insulting me or ANY other person, keep it nice and clean please. Also, do not get offended/angry just because you disagree with someone, we don't have the same brains, hearts and lives, there are bound to be disagreements. Now on to what I want to say :
I am an Indian-American, and I watch desi shows because I can hear the language, see the streets and the people that I find so interesting in the shows. It keeps me connected to my roots and shows me that there is a lot more to life than the routined, practical life in the west where we are tirelessly pursuing our dreams in a home away from home. As a woman pursuing a medical education here without family, I find comfort in these stories and their positivity. The occasional conflicts in the shows can also be fun because at times, I can relate to them. But for every show that I start watching, it eventually ends up being a disaster. Yes, a disaster. When college Started this semester, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to watch Ishqbaaz every day, so I decided that I would watch every few days to minimize distractions while studying and also allow the story to move forward. So, I haven't been watching since 2 days, but I visited the forum today to see what's going on IB, and read about Ishkara's pathetic confrontation. Yes, I am a Shivika fan, and No, I do not like Ishkara since day one. When I saw how beautiful Vrushika is, I thought I would look forward to watching her work. However, that did not happen, thanks to the half-baked writing that went behind her character and her story with Omkara. I have a few points to make regarding this show and Indian TV in general.
First, some questions :
1. Why are women always victimized?
2. Why is the potential in every story and couple destroyed until the writing appears to be pathetic, laughable, annoying and senseless to educated minds ? Not being superior about my being educated, but honestly, do they think that the rural population in India and illiterate people should tolerate the non-sense they show in the name of entertainment? Please respect the audience, educated or un-educated, they literally help you put food on your flipping dining table.
3. Does poverty mean you a) break up a couple b) start doing random research on random families who are rich so that you can con them and then list their weaknesses in one breath ?
Does the world not have enough jobs and talents that can be explored to make money ? Ishana can dance, can't she ? Seems pretty intelligent and has a functioning body too, by gods grace.
4. Does sad background music or even romantic background music ( as was the case today) make a person forget that Ishana has no integrity?
5. Does Om need to tolerate Ishana just because his Dad committed adultery, is hiding a secret or because Shivay thinks with his brains, Rudra flirts with girls, etc? Are the kids the one who "stole" the Oberoi empire ? No, they were simply born into a family which did not deserve them.
6. Is writing really that hard in today's world where we have industries drawing inspiration from each other and a collection of wonderful books being adapted into movies and dramas etc.? I am not saying they should copy someone else to write their stories, but do they not realize that better, more intelligent, more entertaining story telling exists and that peoples standards have gotten higher over the years ?
7. Do they not get immediate rewards for their work ? Instant fame, money, recognition, gifts from fans, TRPs etc.? Then, what is it that prevents Indian writers and directors from allowing a show to breathe, succeed and unfold realistically ?
8. Ishana was used for entertainment purposes until they were " working on her story" as stated by Gul Khan. And as soon as that ridiculous Bela/Mala track reached its saturation point, her exposure was planned with such sad and romantic background music to make viewers feel like poverty is worse than having a terminal illness. Is this for real ? Sadly, it is. My question : Why ?
Unfortunately, this show died a little for me today, and the fact that they used sad background music to justify Ishana's beahviour is beyond ridiculous and abosultely unforgettable. Yes, I can watch for the other two couples, but I can somehow predict that in the future, the writing might deteriorate even more because this production house has a history of not listening to and acting upon constructive crtiticism. They could care less about my opinion, but they cannot change the fact that their writing would be considered incompetent by many accomplished story-tellers. Yes, that is a harsh and bitter statement, but I cannot help myself because every single Indian show ends up like this...and I thought Ishqbaaz wouldn't.
