Chapter 24 - Never Give Up
"Hey Bhabi, you wanted to see me?" asked Preet.
"Yes," smiled Heer. "Kulraj Didi and I are taking Veera for her final dress fitting. I was hoping you could run an errand or 2 for me in the meantime."
"Han Han Bhabi, bas hookum kijiye," said Preet. "Just tell me what needs to be done." His mouth fell open as Heer unrolled a lengthy list of tasks written on a piece of paper he was sure was at least 2 feet long. "You call that just an errand or 2," he mumbled.
"Don't worry, they don't all have to be completed today," chuckled Heer. "I've listed everything in order of importance, starting with the florist and the caterer. Make sure they have the correct venue address. We have several hotels in town, I don't want them showing up and servicing the wrong one. Partial payments need to be made to both of them, but don't give the caterer anything until he has reviewed the menu for each event with you and it matches this." She handed him another sheet of paper. "Also, make sure he gives you a sample of the sweets they're going to serve to bring home for us to taste too."
"Why aren't we just having the food catered by the hotel staff?" asked Preet. "It's more convenient, the food is great and we'd save a lot of money."
"I know, but Maya insisted," sighed Heer. "This place catered Herman and her wedding, and she insists it's the only place that will do for Veera. For some reason she's convinced that money is no object."
Preet frowned. He knew exactly why Maya Bhabi felt that way. She was counting on the Rampals. Well, she was going to be in for a rude awakening.
"Prem will be home in 2 days," continued Heer. "Then we'll have an extra pair of hands on deck. One way or the other, we'll get everything done on time."
Preet looked at the paper in his hand and smiled. Picking up his brother from the airport was number 7 on his list. "Don't worry Bhabi. Everything will work out fine." He listened carefully to the last bit of Heer's instructions, nodded and was about to walk away, when she stopped him.
"Uh...Preet, there is one more thing I want you to do. It's...uh...not on the list, but it's very important just the same," said Heer.
"Okay," said Preet.
"When you get a chance...talk to Meher," said Heer. "I think you should apologize to her for your behavior yesterday."
"I already apologized for being rude to her, remember?" said Preet.
"I know...," sighed Heer. "...but you haven't apologized for...you know...the other thing."
"What other thing?" Preet asked in playful innocence.
"Preet Juneja, you wipe that smirk off your face. You know very well what I'm talking about," insisted Heer, as she reached out to tug on his ear.
"Sorry Bhabi," chuckled Preet as he conveniently dodged her hand and tossed his car keys in the air. "I really have no idea what you're talking about." He had almost made it to the front door when Maya stopped him.
"Hey Preet," she smiled coyily. "Yeh bhabi aur devar apas mein kya khusar phusar kar rahe thay (What were you 2 planning)?"
"Heer Bhabi was just giving me a list of errands to run," explained Preet. "Caterer, Cake, sweets, flower arrangements...you know, typical wedding stuff."
"Heer ki har baat maante ho...kabhi hum se bhi baat kar liya karo (You always listen to Heer, how about me for a change)?" Maya asked flashing him a fake smile.
She's being awfully friendly today, thought Preet. I wonder why. "I was on my way out. Do you need me to pick up something for you?"
"Oh no no Preet," laughed Maya, as she placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "It's not what you can do for me...It's what I can do for you."
"Me?" said Preet.
"Yes you," smiled Maya. "Everyone is so busy with Veera's wedding preparations that they've totally seemed to have overlooked you."
"They have?" said Preet.
"Yes, nodded Maya. "Everyone has forgotten that it's going to be a special day for you too. Bauji is going to make an announcement about you and Ash, remember?""
"Don't remind me," Preet grumbled under his breath.
Pretending not to hear him, Maya pulled out a small black diary and began to flip through the pages. "Of course, with the announcement it would be great if we could finalize a date for your very own engagement. The sooner the better you know. How does your calendar look?"
"Oh...well, I'l tell you right away," said Preet. Pleasantly surprised Maya smiled and nodded as she watched him check the calendar on his phone. "Ah...I have it right here," he smiled. "How about...somewhere between...the 7th of not in this lifetime and the 15th of when hell freezes over? Now if you'll excuse me I have work to do."
Maya's mouth fell open. She fumed as she watched Preet grin and walk out of the house.
A short while later...
Preet walked out of the florist shop Heer had sent him to. He crossed another task off from his list of things to do then looked at the pretty bouquet of flowers he was holding in his hand. Flowers always reminded him of Meher. Sam's house was not too far away, and he could manage some time out in between tasks to see Meher. Unlike Heer wanted, he wasn't going to apologize for kissing her. He wasn't going to apologize for something he wasn't sorry for, but he did want to see her again.
A short while later...
"Hi Sam," smiled Preet as his friend answered the door and let him in.
"Hi," smiled Sam. "Well now, this is a surprise. I wasn't expecting to see you here today."
"I'm sorry I didn't call or anything," said Preet. "I happened to be in the neighborhood and..."
"And you thought you'd bring me some flowers? How sweet," chuckled Sam.
"Actually," said Preet. "They're for..."
"Meher...I know," laughed Sam. "I've been bummed out ever since she left. I was trying to cheer myself up at your expense. Sorry...my bad."
"Meher left?" asked Preet. "Why?""
"Ugh! I wish I knew," sighed Sam. "But I'm the last person she confides in anymore. She automatically assumes anything she tells me will get back to you through Gaurav. Serves me right though. In trying to play cupid between you two, I've lost my best friend's trust."
"Did she say where she was going?" asked Preet.
"Back home to Ludhiana of course," said Sam. "She was in a really crappy mood after your visit yesterday. She called her dad and told him she's coming home. I asked her to wait a few more days, so my father could drop her back, but she insisted on leaving right away. She actually took the bus. Mind telling me what happened between you 2?"
"I...uh...we...uh...," stammered Preet.
"You what?" demanded Sam.
Preet winced. Sam was Meher's best friend. How was he supposed to explain himself without her beating him black and blue with her sandal? "Well, I sort of...uh...we both sort of...uh," he stammered.
"Forget it," Sam rolled her eyes. "Just do me a favor...what ever went wrong, go and fix it."
Preet nodded silently and headed out the door. If only things were that easy.
The next day...
Balraj answered his door and was surprised to find Preet standing there. "Mr. Juneja, Sir, what a pleasant surprise. Please come in."
"Who's at the door?" Kuljeet asked, as she walked into the living room. "Oh...Mr. Juneja, what are you doing here?"
"Uh...Daljeet, hamare mehman ke liye kuch chai paani toh lao (bring some refreshments for our guest)," said Balraj.
"It's okay," said Preet. "I don't intend to stay long. I...uh...was just in the neighborhood and thought I'd stop by and say Hi'."
"Really?" said Kuljeet with a raised eyebrow. "And I suppose those flowers are for me."
"Um...yes," lied Preet, as he handed her the bouquet. "I...uh...stopped by the hotel." He tried to make small talk as his eyes looked past Balraj and Kuljeet searching for any sign of Meher. "It looks great."
"It should Sir, you put enough work into it," smiled Balraj.
"We all did," smiled Preet. "It was a team effort."
Kuljeet walked off to put the flowers in water giving Preet the opportunity to speak to Balraj alone. "Um...I don't see Meher anywhere. Is she back home?"
"Yes," nodded Balraj. "But she's..."
"She's not here," interrupted Kuljeet, as she returned with a vase and placed it on the coffee table. "She went to help out a neighbor. She was in Delhi for quite some time. Did you 2 not meet?"
"Uh...yes...uh...we did...briefly," said Preet, as he headed towards the door. "Well...tell her I said Hi."
The next morning...
It was a beautiful sunny day. Meher was out in the yard putting freshly washed clothes out on the line to dry. She bent down to grab some clothespins from the laundry basket when she saw Preet walking in her direction. Oh No! She thought. What is he doing here? She abandoned her work and made a mad dash towards the house. Preet tried to head her off, and almost caught up to her, when he suddenly tripped over a lawn chair.
"Ouch!" he cried, holding his ankle with both hands.
"Preet!" Meher ran back to where he sat on the grass with a worried look on her face and checked his ankle for injuries. "Are you okay? Does it hurt?"
"I'm okay, thanks for showing that you care," smiled Preet. He reached out and gently touched her cheek, brushing away wisps of hair from her face that had fallen forward as she hovered over him.
Meher's concern shifted into a frown, and she immediately stood up. "Good, then you can be on your way."
"What?! I flew out here all the way from Delhi. Heer Bhabi and Kul Di are probably going to kill me when I get back for abandoning them in the middle of their wedding preparations. I've been hanging around this town since yesterday, doing little more than twiddling my thumbs, just so I could get a chance to see you. Aren't you even going to ask me in?" asked Preet.
"No," said Meher. She picked up her laundry basket and headed back to the house.
"No cup of tea or water even?" asked Preet as he followed her.
"No," Meher said flatly. "My parents are not home, and you shouldn't be here either."
"Meher please," Preet pleaded, as he reached out and took a hold of her arm. "I just want to talk. I know you're trying to avoid me, after what happened between us..."
"Nothing happened between us!" insisted Meher. She started to walk away again.
"Go ahead...walk away," said Preet. "But I hope you realize that your avoiding me is in no way going to make my feelings for you go away."
"What do you want from me Preet?!" cried Meher. "Why can't you just leave me alone?!"
"I want you to marry me," smiled Preet.
"I already told you...no," said Meher.
"Why not?" asked Preet. "I know you love me."
"I don't love you," replied Meher.
"Oh...so you mean there's someone else?" asked Preet.
"No...," admitted Meher.
"Are your parents trying to set you up with someone else?" asked Preet.
"No, but if they do, I'll happily accept anyone they choose for me," said Meher.
"That settles it then," said Preet. "I'll ask your father for your hand in marriage. He won't refuse."
"No!" cried Meher.
"Why not? What's wrong with me?" asked Preet. "My Bhabi is always singing my praises."
"She's clearly biased," said Meher.
"All the girls I've met say I'm smart...sexy...handsome," said Preet.
"They obviously need glasses," Meher rolled her eyes. "Besides...you're already taken. You have to marry Ashlesha, remember?"
"I'll never marry Ashlesha!" said Preet.
"Why not?" asked Meher.
"Because she's not you Meher! How many different ways do I have to say it before you finally get it through your head that I'm in love with you?" demanded Preet. "And no matter how hard you try to deny it, I know you love me too."
"Preet...we're from 2 very different worlds...," tried Meher.
"Last time I checked we were both from planet Earth," said Preet.
"This isn't a joke Preet!" said Meher.
"Who said I was joking?" replied Preet. "I'm very serious about marrying you."
"If you don't marry Ashlesha, your family will lose everything. Don't you care about them?" said Meher.
"Of course I care about them," said Preet. "I'm willing to work 24/7, or do whatever it takes to help get us going again, but I'm not willing to give up on you Meher. I'm in love with you, and I want to marry you not Ash. I can't not follow my heart and then spend the rest of my life wishing I had."
"Preet...," tried Meher.
"Veera's engagement is on Saturday. You and your family are invited," Preet interrupted her. He took her hands in his, looked into her eyes and smiled. "I hope you'll come, because before Bauji makes any announcement, I intend to make an announcement of my own. I'm going to let everyone there know about us. We don't have to be afraid of living our life the way we want to Meher. Of course, it will make things a lot easier for me if you're by my side. You'll be there won't you?"
"Uff! You are impossible!" Meher cried as she pulled her hands back. "You know for a fleeting moment back there when you said you wanted to talk, I thought you actually realized how inappropriately you behaved the other day and came here to apologize. I thought we could put everything behind us and call it a day, but no. You're still stuck in that same gear, insisting on something that is never going to happen. I won't marry you Preet, so please stop asking me to do so. You're not going to change my mind."
She turned to walk away, but Preet stepped forward, grabbed her by the wrist, pulled her in and held her close to him as if they were ballroom dancers. "I will ask you again Meher!" He said with a determined look in his eyes. "I'll continue to ask you again and again until your answer is yes! And I won't apologize for kissing you! In fact, I plan to make a habit of it!"
Meher gulped as she saw his gaze slip from her eyes to her lips, while a mischievous smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. He was so close and his eyes were so focused on her that she thought he was going to make good on his threat and kiss her again right then and there. Instead, he suddenly released her, turned and left her standing shocked and alone with only the sound of her heart pounding in her ears.
Later that evening...
The Maan family were enjoying a peaceful evening at home. Balraj was reading the newspaper, and Kuljeet and Meher were both working on some embroidery, when Meher accidentally pricked her finger with her needle.
"Ouch!" she cried, as she stuck her finger in her mouth and frowned.
"What's wrong with you today Meher?" asked Kuljeet. "That's the 3rd time you've pricked yourself. Your mind is obviously not on your work that's for sure."
Kuljeet was right, thought Meher, as she gave her step-mother a weak smile. Her mind was not on her work. How could it be after Preet's visit? She had thought that if she returned home and put some distance between them things would get better. She would forget about him and he would forget about her, but she had only been fooling herself. She hadn't forgotten about him, and to make matters worse, he had only become more determined about pursuing her. Oh God! What about the announcement he was planning on making? Was that just a ploy by him to get her to come to Delhi? No! He was serious. Damn serious! How on earth was she supposed to stop him?
Just then the doorbell rang jarring Meher from her thoughts. She sat frozen in her seat listening to the doorbell ring a 2nd time. Oh no! Who could it be? She wondered. What if it was Preet? What if he was here to ask her parents for her hand in marriage? Was there no end to this mess?
"Well...aren't you going to get the door?" Kuljeet asked Meher.
"Ji," said Meher as she reluctantly put down her work and got up to see who was at the door. She took a deep breath and opened the bolt. To her surprise, Daljeet Rampal and her daughter Ashlesha were standing before her. "Mrs. Rampal...aap (you)?""
"Good evening Meher," Daljeet smiled coyly. "Aren't you going to ask us in?"
"Of course, please...do come in," Meher said quietly.
"Ah! My dear dear sister!" cried Kuljeet as she came running to greet her guests. "What a wonderful surprise! And you brought Ashlesha too...even better! Why didn't you call me and let me know you were coming?"
"Because it wouldn't be a surprise then," replied Daljeet. She and Ashlesha followed Kuljeet and Meher back to the living room.
"Is Jiju with you?" Kuljeet asked hopefully.
"Oh come now Kuljeet, you know he'd never come here, your husband works for the enemy," scoffed Daljeet, as she waved her hand disapprovingly at the house. "Besides...where would he sit? Our servant quarters have better furnishings than this place."
"Namaste Daljeet," sighed Balraj.
"Namaste Prahji," said Daljeet. "I hope I didn't disturb your plans for the evening by showing up unannounced."
"Ha! What plans could we possibly have that are more important than your visit?" cried Kuljeet. "Uh...Meher...don't just stand there like an idiot, go and put some water on for tea."
"Ji," Meher whispered, then immediately headed for the kitchen.
"Now sister, Jiju certainly can't continue to hold the fact that Balraj works for the Junejas against us," said Kuljeet. "Not with Ashlesha marrying Preet Juneja."
"Uh...yes," said Daljeet before turning to her daughter. "Ash my dear, why don't you go help Meher?"
"Me?" said Ashlesha.
"Yes, you," said Daljeet. "It's about time you learned how to boil water, don't you think?"
Ashlesha shrugged her shoulders and left the room.
Balraj looked at his sister-in-law and frowned. She never visited their home, unless it was absolutely necessary. She must want something, he thought. But what do we have that she needs all of a sudden? "What can we do for you Daljeet?" He asked, as she and Kuljeet took a seat on the sofa.
"My visit concerns Meher, Prah Ji," said Daljeet.
"Oh my Rabs! What has the girl done this time?" asked Kuljeet.
"Nothing nothing," laughed Daljeet, as she patted her sister's hand reassuringly. "In fact, I bring you good news. I have an offer that I'm certain you both will not refuse."
Meanwhile...
"Hey Meher," smiled Ashlesha, as she walked into the kitchen. "Need help?"
"No, it's okay," said Meher. She set water on the stove, then took out a tray and placed some tea cups on it. "However, I am curious to know what brings you and your mother here tonight."
"I don't know," Ashlesha shrugged her shoulders. "Dad was in town on business, and Mom came because she said she wanted to talk to Kuljeet Maasi about something important. Me...I just tagged along because I had nothing better to do."
"Oh...and just exactly what is it that she wants to talk to Kuljeet Ma about?" Meher asked worriedly.
"I'm not sure. You know how mom is, something or the other is always going on in her mind," said Ashlesha. "Hey, how about you? How come you're back home? Veera's engagement party is on Saturday. I was sure you and Sam were going to attend."
"No, I...uh...you know I don't like to stay away from Papa Ji for too long. Besides, I had to get back to work and all," lied Meher. "But you...uh...you can tell me how it went. I'm sure you're as excited as Veera. The Junejas are going to make an official announcement about you and Preet that night, aren't they?"
"I don't know," sighed Ashlesha. "Nothing is confirmed yet. I mean...I love Preet...and I know he loves me, but for some reason he's dragging his feet. I can't quite put my finger on it, but ever since he went back home, he's behaving differently. Mom says it's normal for guys his age to get a little commitment phobic sometimes, but I'm scared. What if he's found someone else?"
"Heh heh...someone else?" Meher gave a nervous chuckle. "What makes you think that?"
"I don't know. Mom says his family is in a deep financial crisis. Our marriage would help bail them out. I really love Preet, Meher. I want to help him and his family too, but they haven't finalized a date yet. Daddy says he has a whole list of business associates with eligible sons ready to marry me. He says if the Junejas don't make an official announcement by Saturday, he'll bring them to the street. And he says he'll arrange my marriage to someone else." Ashlesha began to sob lightly. "I don't want to marry anyone else. You're Preet's friend Meher, maybe you can talk to him and find out what's wrong. Please Meher, please help me."
Meher felt guilt stricken as she watched Ashlesha cry. Poor girl, she thought. She had her heart set on a guy who didn't love her. "Me? Help?" she asked as she handed her a tissue. She had already tried by leaving Delhi, but it hadn't worked.
"Yes," nodded Ashlesha. "Remember how you helped me out with the soup?"
"Making a bowl of soup is very different than fixing a relationship," sighed Meher. "What could I possibly do to help you?"
Meanwhile...
Preet was getting ready for bed when he heard a knock on his door.
"Hey Preet, smiled Prem as he peeked inside the room. "Mind if I come in?"
"Of course PB, make yourself comfortable," said Preet.
"Thanks," smiled Prem, as he took a seat in the arm chair near the bed. "It's good to be home."
"It's good to have you back home," nodded Preet.
"I'm sorry we couldn't talk much on the ride home from the airport," sighed Prem. "I was just getting one phone call after another."
"It's okay," smiled Preet. "Were any of those phone calls the life line we need? Because from the discussion you, Bauji, and Herman Bhaiya were having over dinner, I got the impression that your trip to London didn't prove to be very fruitful."
"I wouldn't say my trip was entirely unproductive," said Prem. "I did get to meet some very important new clients as well as several older ones."
"And...?" asked Preet.
"And we're talking, and they're thinking...," said Prem.
"Great!" sighed Preet.
"Look, it's not over till is's over," said Prem. "So don't give up just yet, because I'm not. How about you? Are you keeping yourself busy? Did you get settled into our Delhi office?"
"No," said Preet. "Herman Bhaiya offered to take me in and show me around, but I told him I'd wait until you got back. Besides, Heer Bhabi needed help with the wedding preparations."
"Ah yes, the wedding preparations," said Prem. "Heer said you skipped out on her. In fact you were gone for almost 2 days without even telling anyone where you went."
"Oh that," winced Preet. "Look PB, before you start...I already got an earful from both Heer Bhabi and Kulraj Didi. Trust me, I had a reason...I...uh...I thought it was time I checked out the hotel in Ludhiana for myself. It's looking really great."
"It should, you worked hard enough out there," smiled Prem. "I suppose while you were there, you also saw Meher."
"Guilty as charged," smiled Preet.
"So...how are things between you 2?" asked Prem.
"I don't know," sighed Preet. "I asked her to marry me and she said No'. In fact, she told me she doesn't love me. I know she's lying, but I also know she won't change her stand on the matter until Bauji accepts her. That's not going to happen in this lifetime, so I'm pretty much screwed."
"That bad eh?" laughed Prem.
"Go ahead," sighed Preet. "Laugh at my expense. My life has turned into one big joke anyway. "
"Hey little bro, would it surprise you to know that I've actually been down that lane too?" said Prem.
"You have?" said Preet.
"Yes," smiled Prem. "Did I ever tell you how your Bhabi and I first met?"
"I don't know," Preet shrugged his shoulders. "You guys were in college together, right?"
"That's right, smiled Prem. "I was in my junior year, sitting on a bench on campus, trying to wolf down a sandwich in between classes, when I happened to look up and see the most amazing sight."
"Let me guess, Heer Bhabi," chuckled Preet.
Prem nodded. "She was leaning against one of the windows in the art department, with a paint brush in her hand, looking so serene. At first, I thought she was looking in my direction, so I waved at her, but she didn't respond. Turns out she was staring at some birds feeding on some pieces of bread someone had scattered just outside the window. Rain or shine, I ate lunch everyday at the same time on that same bench for an entire month just to get another glimpse of her, but she never showed up. I almost thought I had imagined her."
"Then what happened?" asked Preet. He was intrigued.
"I saw her again, a few months later," continued Prem. "She was with a group of other freshmen running a charity drive for some parts of the country that had been hit by earthquakes. I raced back home, cleared out my closet and was back within the hour with as many designer shirts and shoes as I could carry. You should have seen the look on her face. She thanked me politely, and handed me a card with her name on it for future donations. I walked away with the biggest smile on my face and the realization that this lovely young woman with a beautiful soul was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
I bribed a fellow classmate who worked in student services to get me her class schedule, and started hanging around just so I could watch her as she passed by. She must have noticed, because on several occasions she looked back and smiled at me. It took me some time before I actually worked up the courage to speak to her and hold a real conversation. We found that we had so many things in common, and it wasn't long before we started spending all of our free time together. I was in my final year, when I finally proposed to her, but she refused."
"What?! Bhabi refused you?" Preet asked in surprise.
"She sure did," nodded Prem. "Her marriage had been arranged to some guy named Manmeet when she was only 10. To make matters worse, he was her father's best friend's son."
"You're kidding right," exclaimed Preet. "Who does that anymore? Did she even know the guy? Did she love him? And what if she was in love with you now?"
"That's exactly how I reacted," said Prem. "But Heer had a list of reasons...everything from me being out of her league...her not wanting to disappoint her parents...to us being just good friends."
"Ha!" scoffed Preet. "When these girls can't think of anything else they stick it to us with the Friend'label. So...what did you do?"
"I insisted that we were in love, but she was refusing to admit it," said Prem. "She said it was time we said good-bye, and was about to walk away when I just grabbed hold of her and kissed her."
"You did?!" Preet's mouth fell open.
"Yes I did," Prem gave him a sheepish grin.
"And she responded?" asked Preet.
"Oh she responded alright...," chuckled Prem. "...with a resonating slap to my face." He rubbed his jaw line. "In fact, she slapped me so hard her fingers left their mark on my face."
"Bhabi slapped you?! No way?!" Preet said in shock.
"Well...just that one time," said Prem.
"Then what happened?" asked Preet.
"I found her the next day and apologized for my behavior," said Prem. "I told her that I knew I behaved like a brute, but it was only because I wanted her to realize there was more going on between us than just friendship. I loved her more than anything else in the world, and the thought of another guy and her...well...it didn't exactly sit well with me. But at the same time, I told her I'd rather see her happy and be her friend, than not have her in my life at all."
"Did you really mean that?" said Preet. The thought of seeing Meher with someone else was too much for him to bear. "I don't know if I could be that accommodating."
"Well, of course not!" chuckled Prem. "But girls like to hear things like that."
Too late for me to try that, thought Preet. Besides, Meher would know I was lying in an instant.
"Thankfully we didn't have to go down that route," continued Prem. "You know what an emotional softy your bhabi is. Heer was so moved by my words, that she burst into tears, threw her arms around me, and finally admitted that she loved me too. She wasn't of our same social status, so it wasn't easy getting Bauji's approval, and it was even more difficult getting her parents to agree. Ma was with us from the very start. She was the one who convinced Bauji and Heer's parents."
"And now Heer Bhabi is such an integral part of this family, I couldn't imagine us without her," smiled Preet.
"That's right," smiled Prem.
Unfortunately, Meher is proving to be a lot more stubborn than Heer Bhabi was, thought Preet. Our business wasn't going down the tubes back then either.
"Kya soch rahe ho Preet (What are you thinking about Preet)?"" Asked Prem.
"Nothing...I...uh...I wish Ma was around to help me out too," sighed Preet.
Prem placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry Preet. Ma may not be around anymore, but you've got me and Heer on your side. If I've learned anything from my experiences...whether in business or in my personal life...it's to never give up."
Preet contemplated telling his brother just how closely he had followed in his foot-steps, then decided he would save it for another day.
"Well, I'll let you get some rest now," said Prem, as he got up to go. "Heer has a full day planned for both of us tomorrow."
"Thanks PB," Preet got up and hugged his brother.
"For what?" asked Prem.
"For sharing that with me. For always being there," grinned Preet. "And for making me feel...even if it was for a little while...that everything will be alright."

Oh wow so many cool things (according to me) happening.
Heer Preet to start 😎 wow aren't they cool dudes 😎
The interaction is so cool - so like their personality in the show.
It did feel like watching them on screen. Heer in this story is a lil more bubbly than the show Heer.
Bhabi Devar rocked the small scene here. 🤗 I lob them and the scene. ❤️
Woohoo Preet takes his bhabi' advise and visiting Sam's place
Me too disappointed :( Meher is not there :(
Heer is like a Bhabi-friend-mom combo to Preet...so yeah..they make a great team. I actually enjoy writing their interactions. 😆Wow Preet went Meher's house and she's not there 😲
For a moment I thought Kuljeet is hiding her :/
Now her father wouldn't have stayed quiet or would he ? About hiding Meher. Hard to say.
Preet finding Meher and falling down was hilarious 🤣 I know he hurt himself but he can walk isn't it so all well 😆
The convo was good one and felt real ⭐️
Wow Preet invited her for wedding again huh.
Preet tripped...nothing serious...but it gave him an excuse to see that Meher really cares about even though she pretends not to.
Now the villains at Meher's house - y ?
Oh wait they brought proposal for Meher 😲 and she will say yes :( oh man...
Y Ash feigning ignorance ? Or is she really a dimwit ? ;/ I can't tell from the way she talks to Meher.
Ash is a dimwit 😆...in the sense that she doesn't know about Preet and Meher being in love.
Oh wow highlight of the day Preet PB convo 😎
You wrote this pretty well 👍🏼
I understand you're not too comfortable writing Prem - this scene does resemble the Prem in show.
The chemistry btw bros show in the way they converse.
lil affectionate gestures in btw all add to that.
Woohoo me ishhh proud *pats Fatima's back* for doing something out of comfort level.
We appreciate you for bringing back the cute bros on your story.
This scene is drool worthy Cz PB reflecting on his sweetheart.
😆 😆 wow Heer paints omg I think you mentioned that in another chapter hmm hv to chk.
Actually I'm not against writing about Prem...I just like Preet better.. 😆 This scene was fun to write, and it gives us some insight about how Prem and Heer came together and why they are more understanding about what Preet is going through. This FF is Meet centric, but you have the family playing pivotal roles too, so it's important to utilize as many characters as possible. I personally feel it makes for a more real and interesting story. 🤓
Oh wow Meher is Gona attend wedding - I'm sure Ash's mom convinced her huh
And may b gona tell Preet her upcoming wedding lol (guessing only).
You really think she's going to agree to marry someone else? 😲...Let's see 😆
I'm sad u hurt Urself though it laughing about it.
Hope u Tc of Urself and rest :( lob u 🤗
And ya lob Heer Preet and Preet PB scenes and you did good job writing them.
Proud of you.
