CHAPTER 5 ( THE PRINCES OF AYODHYA )

Mandavi ( Excited ) : what next , Maharishi

Rishi : Girls I only know this much

Urmila : But the fun was just beginning , u cant just stop like that in between

Janak : Yeah , Even I want it to continue , Its strange that after all these years , some of the things brought out today were completely new to me . Dashrath is secretive person , he hid so much from me , I wonder whats more he s got under the closet.

A voice was heard suddenly " Then May be I can help the tale to continue "

It was Vijay's Voice

Everyone Looked behind to find Kushdwaj and Vijay standing before them , with broad smiles on their faces , indicating that the battle was won by mithila.

Everyone Rushed towards Kushdwaj to embrace Him .

Janak : I am so glad to see you back victorious , and more importantly , Unscathed and not wounded

Kush'j : Well brother some of the credit goes to Vijay , he took a hit twice for me ( pointing towards his bruised arm ) . Our combined forces fought valiantly , and I wish you had seen Vijay's sword Skills , it was like Magic , I now understand why He is Maharaj Dashrath's most trusted.

Vijay : I am not That Praisworthy Sire , you are embarrassing me.

Chandrabhaga and Sunaina went towards Vijay and dressed up his wound .

Chandrabhagha : Today u protected my husband , I shall forever be indebted to you , if u don't mind , can I call u as my brother from now on

Sunaina : not just hers , mine too...

Vijay : It would be my honour , my sisters.

Kush'j : By the way , I was hoping to find you all a bit stressed at least , but for the past two hours of what I have seen , it didn't look that at all

Janak : what , u have been here for two hours

Vijay ( laughing) : Yes Maharaj , while u were busy listening to Rishika Gargi's Tale .

Sita : Kakashree it was so entertaining , we just didn't notice .

Vijay : For Me , it was as if I was relieving the past again

Kush'j : Not ur fault Putri , Even we both had a good time listening to that in the background

Vijay : So King Janak , when are u planning to send King Kushdwaj to sankasya to oversee its administration ?

Janak , Kush'j and the queens looked towards their daughters , who had suddenly got close to each other and had held each other's hand tightly , breathing Heavily and nodding their heads in a big NO , about to burst out crying anytime now.

Janak : Actually I wont .

Vijay : But someone needs to oversee the affairs there

Janak : I think I will find someone capable from my assembly of ministers , but not my brother , for I cant live without him , neither can my daughters bear separation from each other.

Chandrabhaga ( fake anger) : Mahaaraj you fogot us , Me and Didi too cant live without each other

Janak ( Laughs ) : Yes Yes both of you too .

Kush'j ( sarcastic ) : Brother , we can never win against our wives , it's a useless battle.

Vijay : Oh Man , this is so much Like Ayodhya . You four little princesses are just like my Princes , together always . Come Sit with me , I will tell you something now , and I am pretty sure no one here knows this stuff , for these are too cherishable moments for them , but I think I can share with you all , Mithila is now officially my Sister's family now , so kind of my own

Yagyavalkya : Sure , I was just coming on to narrate the birth of the princes , U can start from there.

Vijay :

Ok lets continue . The kingdom of Ayodhya has had literally everything going for it , except for one thing , Neither of the Queens had borne the King an Heir to the throne , and finally after several years of desperation , on advice of Ayodhya's Rajguru Vashishth , Maharaaj carried out a tough penace for to be blessed by a child

There was a Massive Yagna , And maharaja along with all maharaanis performed the Puja .

The Gods were Pleased with him , and offered him a bowl of Rice pudding as Prasad , the intake of which would have made the queens pregnant.

He handed over the bowl to queen Sumitra for the Prasad to be divided , who as selfless as I have known her to be , divided the contents into two bowls of equal proportions . Seeing the happiness on the faces of the two other queens , she had forgotten to ration for herself.

SCENE NARRATION BY VIJAY:

Rani Sumitra walked towards towards the two Queens and handed them the bowls , Rani Kaushalya and Rani kaikeyi looked towards each other smiling and nodding their heads in unison , as if talking in eyes only , they both ate some portion of their respective bowls , and then lovingly fed Rani sumitra with the remaining Prasad in their plate

Kaushalya : Sumitra , this Prasad was meant for the three of us , this means including you as well

Kaikeyi ( joyous ) : Soon we shall have three sons and the palace will live out with the babbling and crying noises of the babies , the void in our and Maharaj's lives will be filled forever .

The three queens lovingly go into a group Hug

Time Flew by , and Soon queen Kaushalya gave birth to the Eldest son of Dashrath on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha in lunar month of chaitra, The crown Prince of Ayodhya , Prince Ram . Born with a slight dusk toned skin, Appearance as if Lord Narayan was born a baby . A child with an enchanting smile and calmness to his Face , Yuvraj Ram is the pearl of the eyes of his Father and three mothers.

The Kosala kingdom rejoiced in festive mood for nearly a month , And Maharaaj was like he went mad with happiness , he distributed half of the wealth in the royal treasury to the praja.

Mahaaraj was so attached to yuvraj , that whenever he got time off from Royal affairs , He would come to Kaushalya's chambers to rock his cradle. Sometimes he wouldn't he even come to oversee matters , letting me and Guru Vashisht oversee proceedings . His birth changed the fortunes of Ayodhya and brought good luck and prosperity to them .

You know all those all years , for the first time I saw the queens Fight , you know why , just as to decide with whom shall Yuvraaj Ram sleep in the night .

About an year later , Queen Kekayi gave birth to the second son of Mahaaraj , Prince Bharat.

Born with his mother's beautiful eyes , he bore an uncanny resemblance to his father ,so round fluffy cheeks and skin as white as Milk , he is said to have been born the most beautiful baby boy . Seeing his Face just lets you forget everything else . Its common word round the streets of Ayodhya , that Gods blessed Rani kekayi with a child of Golden heart , a soul so pure and innocent that she didn't even feel the pain of childbirth , the queen supposedly underwent a painless birth procedure.

Such is the demeanour of our Yuvraj Bharat , He doesn't have the ability to give pain to others.

And finally just a few Months Later , Queen Sumitra too went to labour . And her case was the exact opposite to that of Kekayi . Her belly was swollen well beyond normal , and as she roared in Pain , Kaushalya could only help her sitting by her side , trying her best to calm her down . It was a torrid rainy day , with the clouds in sky fractioning to create huge thunderous noises . The royal Medic and Sage vashisht was called for Help , and the medic Confirmed , that Ayodhya would be getting not three , but four Princes . She had bore twins due to sheer accident , the Prasad meant for three had been turned to four portions , and sumitra bore two sons as she ate 2 portions.

It was torrentious times for Ayodhya , Maharaaj was not in palace , Ayodhya was at War with Asurs .

I was left back at the palace to take care of everyone , and I remember being scared so much .

Rani Kaushalya was by her side and even Sage Vashisht , through his divine powers couldn't lessen the pain Queen Sumitra went through . I even remember his exact words when he failed in his attempt

" It looks that this event is beyond even my Powers to control . My Poor Putri Sumitra , Why does she have to bear the worst of fortunes everytime "

On the other hand , Rani Kekayi had her hands Full with taking care of both rama and Bharat , who had suddenly started to cry and moan loudly as soon as their step mother had gone to labour .

No one knows how it happened , but Ram and Bharat managed to cluth away from Rani kaikayi's lap and crawled Quickly into Queen Sumitra's chamber .

I remember vividly how the events unfolded later that day , Queen Sumitra looked towards both of her Sons , and smiled in a little gesture as if saying to come close to her , and both Yuvraj Ram and Bharat crawled towards her

Vashisht : Kaushlaya , pls help my angels sit beside sumitra , I think their presence is going to soothe her

Kaushalya : Yes Sage , as u wish.

Rani kaushalya did exactly what was told

Strangely enough , the boys stopped crying , and Queen Sumitra calmed down completely , feeling relieved of all the pain , and she gave birth to the third Hier , Prince Lakshman. Upon his birth , a strange phenomenon happened was that the clouds went away , and the sun came out brightly , its rays kissing the Suryavanshi Flag on top of the palace making rishi vashisht to make the remark " I think the young prince hates thunder " . Looking at the newborn prince for the first time , I just could make out anything, strange and suspicion filled eyes , looking right and left with a big frown , as if scanning the whole Room , never saw such a mystery boy before.

Minutes Later , The youngest prince was born , and upon his arrival brought the good news to the palace that King dashrath had emerged victorious in war , thereby earing the prince the name of shatrughan - or the destroyer of enemies . Looking at him closely , his face was that of a naughty fellow filled with mischief .

Ram and Bharat had those big smiles at their faces , keenly observing their two little siblings closely , trying to touch and feel them , with Queen Sumitra gone to sleep after a tiring experience , and Kaikeyi and kaushalya trying Hard that in their Playfullness , they don't poke their fingers in the eyes of their brothers .

Some hours later , Ram and Bharat were taken away by the queens to their rooms , so as to give Queen Sumitra some rest and letting the new borns sleep peacefully. But again they crawled back to their younger siblings , and this time when they were abut to be taken away , not only ram and bharat , but even Lakshman and Shatrughan cried loudly , it was being quite difficukt to keep the four separate. At last , guru vashisht said " Let the boys stay together , they are destined it that way , we must not interfere with the god's way of working ".

And its that date till today , the four princes remain together , always.

No one eats or sleeps without each other.

Janak : That is some seriously strong bond I find among the brothers.

Vijay : Yes Maharaaj , although the four are supremely close to each other , if one observes deeply , its actually the Pair of Ram- Lakshman and Bharat - Shatrughan that are practically inseparable.

Sunaina : Pretty Much Like My Sita and Kriti and Urmila-Mandavi

Urmila : No Maa , our four sisters bond is the most deep , no one comes close.

Sita : Ok Ok , don't get so hyper , Why are u always ready to fight .

Urmila : But Didi...

Sita : shh... See vijay kaka is not finished yet , u better listen quietly.

Vijay : This reminds me of another event , what Happened Was , Just a few Months ago , All my Four Princes were playing with a hard ball in the Garden.

Maharaaj along With Rani Sumitra and Kaushalya were a few meters away eating fruits , and I was Keeping Watch . Rani Kaikeyi was Away in Kekeya Province to meet her father .

Suddenly , Bharat Threw the ball towards shatrughan , shatrughan ducked it , and the ball Hit the Old Manthara , who u can say is like granny to queen Kekayi

Though she loves Bharat Too much , Bharat quite never Likes Her , as she overly pampers him over the other Brothers , and I don't think I should say this or Not , she is not very Fond of Prince Ram.

Bharat Froze with fear as Manthara cried in pain and made a swift walk towards the four.

SCENE NARRATION BY VIJAY :

Manthara ( angrily shouts ) : Who Did this , I demand to be answered right now

Bharat hid behind Ram

Ram ( softly) : Mathara Ma , it was no one's fault , it was plainly an accident .

Manthara : So it was you , why did I even have to ask for the culprit , I should have guessed it already , who other than you can do this.

Lakshman ( angrily ) : Have u turned deaf you old ugly aunt , Ram Bhayia said it was an accident , he didn't say he do it

Manthara ( sarcastically ): Of course you are going to stand I support of ur Ram bhaiya , who cares for my Bharat anyways.

Shatrughan ( angrily ): I do manthara kaki , in fact all of us do , why are u trying to instigate us.

Lakshman and Shatrughan knew that it was done by Bharat accidently , but how could they have taken his name directly , after all he was as equally lovable to both of them Like ram

Soon a big hue and cry was Made , thereby making kings and queens to come there and intervene in the matter .

Manthara Tried to implicate Ram into the mess , while Bharat couldn't say anything out of fear .

Dashrath : I simply cant believe this that my Ram can do this , tell me putra , Did u do this on purpose.

Manthara : I am telling you sire he did

Ram : If Manthara ma is saying this , then its true Pitashree

Everone else was shocked

Lakshman ( in Ram's ears ) : why don't u tell the truth?

Ram : I cant , how can I let Manthara ma loose her prestige in front of Pitashree , specially when Ma kaikeyi is not here

Sumitra to Kaushalya : I f only Kaikeyi Didi was Here , Manthara wouldn't have dared this

Kaushalya : I know , my poor Son is being framed.

Dashrath ( with a heavy heart ) : All right Son , though I know you haven't done this , but I have no choice but to respect your explanation , so I hereby order you that for the next One week , You shall stay in the stables , look after the horses , and be given only one meal per day.

Ram : your Wish is my command Pitashree

Janak : what an extrodainary boy , at this tender age , his mature behaviour is beyond appreciation.

Sita : Prince Ram is really an exceptional human being from what I hear , He respects even those who don't appreciate him much

Urmila : But Didi, I don't like this , I mean just because of this attitude , see how others manipulate .

Sita : Urmi , why are u getting angry dear .

Urmi : Didi , I am feeling like aN inferno is burning inside Me , Oh that evil Bitch, How dare she do something Like this , If I was there , I would have thrown that Ball right at her face again.

Vijay ( starts laughing loudly ): Oh God , I cant believe this , you are exactly like him

Urmila ( Confused ) : Like Who ?

Vijay : Like the younger Prince

Urmia : Meaning ??

Vijay : He did the same thing , let me tell you

SCENE NARRATON BY VIJAY CONTINUES

Ram : Bharat , you have nothing to fear brother , now go back to palace

Bharat : But this is unfair Bhayia

Lakshman : yes , Bharat is right

Ram : Both of you , I don't want to argue further , I am proceeding to the stables , and off go you three back to the palace now

Lakshman : Ok borther , But before you go , I have a pending task to do

Ram : Now what

Lakshman picked up the ball and hit Right at manthara's face hard, thereby invoking strong reactions from everyone - the king and the queens.

Sumitra : Lakshman , what is this , is this the way to behave

Dashrath : I am extremely ashamed of this act of urs putra , never did I expect you to do this . You too now will go with Ram to the stables for a week and complete the ame punishment.

Lakshman ( smiles wickedly and thinks ) : Exactly what I wanted

As ram and lakshman walked to the stables :

Ram : Lakshman , why did you hit Manthara Ma , don't u know the manners , The suryavanshis don't raise hand on women

Lakshman : She insulted you brother , mark my words , anyone , whether a man or a women , tries to harm my loved ones , specially you , this lakshman isn't gonna spare that fellow. And wherever you go in ur life , you are not going alone , I will follow you as your shadow

Ram : Ok Ok , now come with me , my Hot headed brother.

Back in the garden , as bharat walked back towards the palace , he cast a evil smirk at manthara

Bharat : Don't you ever show me your face again

SCENE NARRATION ENDS

Urmila : See that's how u do it , She deserved to be hit

Sita : Calm down you hyper girl

Mandavi : But Vijay Kaka , I wasn't expecting this from Prince Bharat , he stood silent , didn't do anything , why didn't he take a stand for his brother , is he so weak

Kriti: And neither the youngest Prince Did anything

Vijay : Mandavi , Shrutkirti , each of them responded according to their nature . Bharat did respond , and it was his own way of challenging Maharaaj's decision . Staying silent doesn't always mean that you are weak , sometimes silence can be the greatest wepon , and I personally learned this from the prince that day . As for Prince shatrughan , His was the most extreme reaction

SCENE NARRATON STARTS

Shatrughan walked right into Royal kitchen and took a knife , starting to run back towards the palace

Bharat : Stop Shatrughan , I said stop , what do you think you are doing

Shatrughan : I will kill that old lady .

Bharat : Does this behaviour suit a prince , Look in my eyes and answer

Shatrughan ( agitated at Bharat ) : But you didn't do anything there , and neither Did I

Bharat : Don't worry , I have my own way to deal with It

From that Day , Prince Bharat went in a shell , he didn't speak to anyone , and neither ate any food

All others were terrified at this behaviour , soon he fell sick . Everyone would plead him to talk and eat , But he would never budge an inch . Rani Kaikeyi was called back immediately , but even she couldn't't manage to convince the prince

And when they asked shatrughan , all the answer that came back was

" Bharat bhayia wants ram and Lakshman back immediately , and manthara ma to apologize to ram bhayia "

But a man of his words , Maharaaj couldn't go back on his promise . Ram and Lakshman weren't told about this so as to not make them worry.

Finally , the situation deteriorated to such extent that it was now a matter of life and death , the prince wouldn't survive if he didn't ate in next 12 hours.

With no option Left , Mahaaraj had to break hi promise , Ram and lakshman were called back and finally all the princes ate together . Later That Night I heard Ram scolding Bharat a lot for this , and then crying and hugging him too

This was the first Time in many years that I saw Mahaaraj unable to fulfil his word , so harsh was the convincing method of bharat that no one could stand against it .

( By the time Vijay Finished , he himself had tears in his eyes)

Mandvi : and I was thinking him to be weak , silly me . I really admire how righteous he was.

Kirti : Didi , we all will stay together always , like ayodhya's princes

Urmila : yes , I am not leaving my three sisters , till death do us apart

Sita : Don't say like this Urmi , but yeah , we will stay together , always

Sunaina ( in thoughts ) : Innocent Girls , I fear how they will live separately after marriage

Janak cast a look on sunaina , grasping cent percent from her facial expressions as to what she was thinking

Janak ( in thoughts ) : Hey bholenath , I trust your Leela , I know u will find a solution to this.
