A new day, A new Beginning
Arnav plopped on his chair & let out a sigh of relief. This 20X20 room might be termed by an overzealous realtor as prime property. But for Arnav this was not just a piece of prime realty in the posh environs of South Delhi. This was his sanctum, his home away from home, the place which keeps him sane & releases him from the suffocating prison that was his personal life.
Were we all not prisoners in some form held captive within walls, some self-inflicted, some created by the society with its maddening norms of conformation.
Arnav mused on the fact that of late his thoughts were becoming more & more cynically philosophical. Symptoms of advancing age perhaps.
He chuckled at that thought. Di always maintained that he was born middle aged with the despairing symptoms only intensifying with time.
LIVE CHOTE... Let go your emotional baggage & experience life to its fullest. Have you not heard the cliche SMELL THE ROSES or may be in your case Smell the roses after smelling & sipping your hell brew of choice, coffee!
She had remarked cheekily which had earned her a jab in the elbow from Arnav.
Actually you are to be blamed for my bleak outlook Di. Having been subjected to all this melodramatic droll from childhood has turned me into this so called Zombie state. Reverse psychology anybody...
He guffawed & it was now his turn to be at the receiving end of some good natured mauling by Anjali.
Those memories brought a smile on his face which was soon wiped off on reading the latest email in his inbox.
Yet another consignment of the latest AR Fall Collection to their top retailer had slipped the delivery schedule & Arnav was livid.
He could never tolerate slackers & started dialing Sheetal's number.
oOo
Khushi stared at the imposing facade of AR Towers before her & experienced a renewed bout of nervousness. Was she committing hara-kiri by accepting this job right where her nemesis ruled the roost owing to her proximity to the CEO Arnav Singh Raizada.
Her traitorous heart skipped a beat even at his mere thought. She couldn't begin to fathom the effect on her miserable heart if she had encounters at close range with him.
She quelled the thought as quickly as it originated. Fat chance of that. If all these years he had been oblivious of her presence, what were the chances that now magically he would notice her. Typical wishful thinking on her part. But at least she had achieved her dream of entering the fashion industry & what better place to help her get the much needed foothold in the highly insular yet cut throat competitive fashion industry. She heaved a sigh, sent a fervent prayer up to her Devi Maiyya & stepped inside the citadel.
The receptionist shot her an extremely disdainful look but reluctantly gave her directions to her workplace after taking a disbelieving look at the appointment order clutched tightly by Khushi. She became uncomfortably aware of all the weird looks she was eliciting from the other fashionably dressed employees. She clutched her bag more tightly praying for courage. She had long since become immune to the talks & furtive looks that she attracted back at her school & neighborhood. But somehow this strange setting & environ made her diffident & unsure.
Rattled by this cold welcome she stumbled into someone who as her poor luck would have it turned out to be the bete noir in person. Sheetal Malhotra.
Well, well well. What do we have here. Sheetal sneered inducing a fresh bout of snickering.
Actually today is my first day here in office.
What, are you implying that you actually got a job offer from AR. Who are you kidding.
She roughly snatched the letter that Khushi was brandishing & was incensed to find Khushi to be speaking the truth.
Well now that you are actually joining work, lets start your induction right away.
Post her proclamation she dragged Khushi towards what turned out to be the pantry area.
oOo
ASR's temper rocketed.
Where the hell was Sheetal. Most likely she must be with those simpering bimbos, Pam & Kirti who were perennially hanging on her arms.
He muttered an expletive when he found her room empty. Suddenly he heard some commotion & rightly guessed that the racket was originating from the pantry area. He gravitated towards the source of all this ruckus & as he neared he could hear a babel of voices, loud snickering & giggling.
Sheetal's team was huddled around a girl who was standing with bowed head. That slight frame looked vaguely familiar & he inched closer to get a better look. He was surprised to see her head whip up & saw a pair of beautiful hazel brown eyes staring at him. Their gaze collided & she immediately averted her glance. However in that split second that he had captured her attention he had recognized her. He was strangely intrigued. What was she doing here.
Except her no one else had noticed his presence. It was as if she had sensed his presence though he was not in her immediate line of vision. This piqued his interest further but was distracted by the ensuing round of uproarious laughter.
So you claim to be a designer but dress in such gunny sacks. Pam drawled sarcastically.
You do realize that this is AR Fashions, the leading fashion power house in the country. We have high standards & how dare a trailer trash like you step into these hallowed portals.
Whom are you planning to design dresses for, Delhi's rag pickers? Kirti swooped in for the kill.
This taunt was greeted by a fresh round of mirth and guffaws. He saw the girl's fists clench around her dress tightly, the only reaction from her while her face half concealed behind those long tresses was oddly inscrutable.
He looked at the mob convulsed with gleeful merriment & he felt a sudden onslaught of repulsion at their callousness. Were the people around him always been this shallow & vapid. He closed his eyes momentarily & then took a deep breath.
ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!
Everyone just froze & turned simultaneously to behold ASR in towering rage. There was a stunned silence.
