The Lull before the Storm
Amidst the clinks of champagne filled glasses & drone of irrelevant small talk, he could still isolate & discern her tinkling laughter.
He turned in the direction from which her voice kept drifting towards him & caught a glimpse of her. Decked up in her bridal attire, She looked beautiful, her stunning visage further enhanced by that wonderful glow on her face, testimony to her happiness. The lehenga had come from his personal design but even he had failed to envisage the staggering impact of the final output. His face reflected his pride both at his creation as well as at the woman who would soon be his.
As if in response to his chain of thoughts she turned right at that moment & looked at him. A brilliant smile lit up her face as she stared at him with love & passion.
He would do anything to conjure up that look on her face again & again.
She felt his intense gaze on her & turned to find him literally singeing her with his hooded looks. The scorching expression on his face made her heart beat faster. This is what she had always dreamt of. This day, this moment. She in her bridal glory, him looking insanely handsome with that secretive smile hovering mischievously on his face meant only for her. His smile, his love, his passion all hers. Hers to possess, cherish & nurture.
She darted another surreptitious look at him & waggled her eyebrows suggestively before winking saucily at him.
He smiled contentedly unaware that all this while this exchange was being closely observed by a malevolent presence.

She had yet again managed to blend into the backdrop. She had mastered that art so well that for all the notice that others took of her she might as well be the invisible wallpaper or the inanimate furniture. Wisely so since amidst those sparkling chiffons & shimmering satins she looked like a jarring aberration.
She caught the exchange underlined by silent sexual innuendos & a frisson went through her soul. All these years when she had convinced herself that she was OVER HIM she had simply been reiterating a painful lie. He still mattered. She still hurt albeit the soul searing pain had dulled into a throbbing ache, never overwhelming but never dying down either.
