Chapter 22

Arnav drove the car cutting through the traffic. "Why didn't she come today? Is she alright?" he wondered. Numerous thoughts were coming to his mind. "Gaadi kharaab ho gayi hogi uski... Or may be there is some important household work to be done... May be she has some family issues..." He couldn't stop thinking. "Accident?! No!! She shouldn't have met with an accident...!!" He was more worried now. He just pressed he accelerator and the car sped away.

Arnav and Aman reached Khushi's home. Arnav parked his car near the gate. He immediately got out. He hurried to the door and rang the doorbell as Aman rushed to the door.

"Arnav! What are you doing?!!" said Aman. "Are you sure this is Khushi's home?!"

"Ofcourse I am!!" replied Arnav, waiting desperately for the door to be opened.

"How do you know?" asked Aman.

"I have been here once...!" replied Arnav as he rang the bell again.

"What?! When?"

Arnav was about to tell when Garima opened the door. Of course she did not recognize Arnav or Aman as she had never seen them before.

"Yes?" she said on seeing two strangers at the door.

"Kya Khushi yahan hai?" asked Arnav impatiently. Is Khushi here?

"Uhm... Maaf kijeeye, maine aap logon ko pehechaana nahi..." sad Garima not sure whether she should tell them about Khushi. Sorry, but I didn't recognize you...

Arnav was about to say something but Aman stopped him.

"Arnav!! Relax yaar..." said Aman.

The word "Arnav" shocked Garima. Is he really "the" Arnav Singh Raizada?!!

"Aunty" said Aman, "this is Arnav, Arnav Singh Raizada... and I am Aman" he paused. "Actually..."

"Oh! Please come in...!" said Garima. She was a bit nervous to receive Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada. "I am Khushi's mother" she introduced herself.

Dadi quickly went in the kitchen to get water for the guests.

"Please have a seat..!" said Garima.

"No, thank you!" said Arnav. "Is Khushi at home?" He asked, his eyes looking around for her. "Why didn't she come to office today...?" Arnav didn't let Garima speak. He went on, "She didn't even inform that she wasn't coming... I tried to call her but her phone is switched off... and..."

Aman patted on Arnav's shoulder to tell him to be patient. Arnav realized he was speaking too much.

Just then Dadi came out with two glasses of water. They both sat down.

"Yes, Khushi is at home. She is not well. She is sleeping in her bedroom..." told Garima and before she could complete Arnav interrupted.

"Not well? Kya hua Khushi ko?" he was worried.

Garima told them that last night when Khushi returned, she seemed too tired. And then suddenly she collapsed, unconscious. They called their family doctor immediately. Khushi had high fever. Doctor asked them to get reports of various medical tests for Khushi. Now the tests were done, and the reports were to be collected tonight from the hospital.

Arnav was relieved, for all his thoughts while driving remained as thoughts and didn't turn out to be reality.

"How is she now?" asked Aman.

"She seems better, but now only reports will tell..." Garima said sadly.

"Kya hum Khushi se mil sakte hain?" asked Arnav. May we meet Khushi?

"I will just go and check..." said Garima and left for Khushi's room.

Arnav was restless. But why? He didn't know exactly. He had never been so restless for anyone before. Why was he so worried? What was this fear? He didn't know... and right now he didn't want to know it. Right now, he just knew that he wanted to meet Khushi once.

Arnav and Aman drank the water served to them.

"Maine landline par bhi call kiya tha... but I wasn't able to connect...!!" said Arnav.

"Jee... our landline is not working since a couple of days... We have informed the company for repairing it... Ek-do din mein theek ho jaayega!" told Dadi.

Arnav just recalled how tensed he had been when he couldn't connect the number. He sighed. Nothing is as bad as you had thought, Arnav!

Here Garima tried to wake Khushi up.

"Khushi..." she said. "Khushi see who has come to see you!"

Khushi was not feeling well. She still had fever. Without opening her eyes, she weakly mumbled "I don't wish to meet anyone..."

"Khushi, Arnav Sir is here..."

"Arnav Sir?!" Khushi suddenly sat up. "When did he come? Abhi? But how did he come here? And how does he know that I..."

"Khushi, wash your face and come down... Okay? Arnav Sir wants to see you. And there is some Aman too wih him..."

"Aman Sir has come too?!"

Khushi was surprised. Arnav Sir is here?! Why? Did I do anything wrong again? Khushi wondered. She quickly washed her face, brushed her hair, put on her sweater and walked down. She was feeling very weak, but Arnav and Aman's presence strengthened her at the moment.

Arnav and Aman looked at her as she walked into the hall. With the support of the walls and the sofa, Khushi finally sat down.

"Bata nahi sakti thi tum?" yelled Arnav. Everyone was shocked including Khushi. "Couldn't you inform?! Ek phone nahi kar sakti thi?! Do you know how worried I was?! A number of times I tried to call you, but you phone is switched off! You landline is dead! How will we know what has happened?"

Garima and Dadi were stunned. Khushi just looked at the floor. "Sorry Sir..." she said in a low voice. "I know, I should have..." and she began coughing. Arnav quickly filled a glass with water and handed it to Khushi. Aman saw how much Arnav cared for Khushi. Even Garima and Dadi didn't fail to notice that.

Khushi drank some water and felt better as Garima rubbed her back.

"Are you alright?" asked Arnav, worried.

Khushi nodded.

"What will you have? Tea, coffee? Should I prepare something to eat?" asked Garima.

"No, thank you...!" said Arnav.

"Have something, please..." said Khushi. "Even I have to eat Khichdi now..." said Khushi making a sad face.

Aman giggled as Garima and Dadi smiled.

"Don't you like khichdi?" asked Aman. Khushi shook her head in "no" making an ugly face. Aman smiled.

"Okay, I will also have khichdi with you!" said Arnav.

Everyone was surprised.

"No no, I will make something else for you both!" said Garima.

"Actually, khichdi would be great!" said Arnav. Aman too nodded.

Garima had no other option but to serve khichdi to Arnav and Aman along with Khushi.

Arnav began eating as soon as it was served. He did not wait for Khushi or Aman to begin eating. After a while, Arnav noticed that everyone was staring at him. He felt awkward as he noticed that Khushi ans Aman had not begun eating yet.

"Tum log bhi khaao na...!" he said. Everyone giggled.

"You know Khushi, Arnav must be very hungry... He has not had his lunch today... just because of you!!" said Aman making fun.

"Because of me?!" Khushi was confused.

Arnav tried to stop Aman from speaking but Aman continued.

"Yes!" said Aman as Khushi, Garima and Dadi listened curiously. "Arnav was supposed to go home for lunch as Ajinkya Uncle and Lavanya have come. But, you did not come to office, your phone was switched off... So he waited thinking maybe you would come... And finally, after waiting for a long time, we came here!"

Khushi felt bad. She just glanced at Garima to tell her to serve some more khichdi to Arnav. Garima nodded and did the same. Arnav initially refused to have more, but Khushi urged him to. He could not deny. Khushi just looked at him as he ate. He was really hungry and gulped down the khichdi as fast as he could. He had no patience to wonder what others might be thinking. Khushi felt satisfied.

After some time, Khushi asked, "Yeh Ajinka Uncle aur Lavanya kaun hain?" Who are Ajinkya Uncle and Lavanya?

"Ajinkya Uncle is Papa's childhood friend and Lavanya is my childhood friend!! I will be meeting them after a long time...!" replied Arnav filling his mouth with the last spoonful of khichdi.

"Woh log kab se aap ka intezaar kar rahe honge, aur aap yahan hain...!" said Khushi. "Aur haan, Lavanya pe gussa mut karna jaise aap humesha mujhpe gussa karte hain, bina wajah!" she complained. They all must be waiting for you since long, and you are here! And yes, don't be angry with Lavanya like you always get angry with me, without reason!

Aman smiled. Garima and Dadi were clueless. Aman went to the wash basin.

Just then Arnav's phone rang.

"Yes! I am coming in some time...!!" he replied rudely and cut the call. "Yeh Mrs. Raizada bhi na...!!" he said shaking his head in irritation as he kept the phone in his pocket.

Khushi heard that. She felt bad for Nilima. Arnav noticed that Khushi had heard him say that again. He just looked away from her.

Arnav and Aman got up to leave.

"Take care Khushi!" said Aman with a smile.

Khushi smiled back and nodded.

"Take care..." said Arnav, "And eat something otherwise you will vanish in the air one day!" he paused, and then said "And don't come to office till you are perfectly fine, alright?"

Khushi just smiled. Though Arnav always seemed stern and rude, he was kind at heart. Khushi knew it now.

Arnav and Aman took their leave and walked towards the car. But Arnav came back to the door the next moment. Khushi curiously waited to hear what he wanted to say to her and he spoke... but not to her.

"Khichdi bohot achhi thi...!" he told Garima and went back to the car. Khichdi was very nice!

Arnav and Aman left.

Aman knew that the real Arnav was slowly coming back... He knew it was Khushi who would bring Arnav back. Seeing the concern and the worry for Khushi in Arnav's eyes, Aman was sure that Arnav had feelings for Khushi.

Here Khushi was very happy that both, especially Arnav, had come only for her. She felt alive. Happiness could clearly be seen on her face. Garima and Dadi looked at each other.

"Yeh tumhaare Arnav Sir kitne akdu hai na..." Garima said purposely to Khushi.

Khushi immediately replied, "Nahi nahi Amma!! Woh toh bohot achhe hain!!" she said trying to clear here mother's misunderstanding. He is very nice!

"Achha?!" asked Dadi, teasing Khushi.

And Khushi understood that Garima and Dadi were making fun of her. She blushed and ran away to her room.

Arnav dropped Aman to office and then went home. Before Arnav reached home, Aman called Akash and told him everything that had happened. Akash told everything to Payal and both were very happy that finally Arnav found someone who will make him normal again.

Arnav reached home and he was welcomed by none other than Lavanya. "Arnav!!" she cried on seeing him. She came and hugged him. He didn't like that of course. He didn't hug back. "Where were you yaar?!" she said, "We were all waiting for you!"

Arnav didn't reply.

"Hello Arnav bete, how are you?" Ajinkya said.

"I am fine Uncle" he replied and touched his feet. "Khush raho beta!" blessed Ajinkya.

Nilima came out. She was angry. "Arnav, where were you?! How many times I had called you...!" she said. "Come now, eat something!"

"I was busy in an important work!!" replied Arnav. "Aur mujhe bhook nahi hai... main kha ke aaya hoon!!" I am not hungry, I have eaten already!

Everyone was surprised at the reply.

"I will just be back" he told others and went to his room.

Lavanya stared at him as he went. He didn't even say 'hi'... he didn't even ask how I am... She felt bad.

"What is wrong with Arnav?" wondered Anup.

Akash and Payal just smiled. 'cause they knew very well what "important work" Arnav had...!!

Badle hue hain andaaz tumhaare,

Aaj kuchh toh zaroor hua hai...

Yun hi khilti rahe zindagi tumhaari,

Buss yehi humaari dua hai...!!
