Part 13

Arnav guided her through Sheesh Mahal, while she tried to memorize those wall so that she wouldn't be lost if flight situation arises. Surprisingly enough, neither Arnav's grip nor his pull was rough; it was as gentle as a petal waiting to kiss the ground in mid-air.

But the betraying air maneuvered that petal into a place reigned by terror. The place whose mere mention scared her. It was the room of artillery and ammunition.

Terror gripped her as she walked into the store of artillery. The very feel of the room was so gloomy that she could feel the bile rising up to her lips. These were the things which snatched lives from people, which snatched love from many and compromised the peace of the society and she, was completely surrounded by them.

Arnav's hand still held on to her wrist and hence guided her through the room but still she was scared of getting lost. Getting lost in the room which screamed fear, violence and death.

Death...

Was he going to give her a threat of death?

The fact that the room was enclosed so deep within Sheesh Mahal and the probability that someone would hear her scream, if at all she chooses to, is almost negligible didn't help Khushi's situation at all. Arnav could feel her goosebumps and slight shivering but he didn't stop his feet from leading his way to his desired destination.

Their feet stopped moving when Arnav stared at something on the wall with an unusual demeanor of softness and warmth. Khushi, whose eyes were stuck on a completely changed Arnav, found herself following the line of his sight to arrive at two lifesize photos of two beautiful women.

Khushi read the text, which probably hinted at the names of these ladies, louder than she had intended to. " Shanti Malhotra. Manasvini Sehgal."

" That is my mother and Anjali's mother. Father was double-timing with both. Both of them were under the belief that he was just theirs, but he wasn't. He had betrayed them both and when the women, agonized by their husband's betrayal committed suicide, he followed them like he loved them all his life."

A feminine gasp broke through the deadly silence which engulfed the sorrow-filled room. "I was 14 then. Anjali was 8. But it feels like it was just yesterday. Such a cheater he was. Both of them belonged to high class families like his, so they had a chance of meeting each other, which they did too. He even asked them to retain their maiden names so that they would remain blissfully unaware of each others' significance in their lives and named it as a gesture of affection and love. That day at their funeral, I promised myself three things. To shut everyone's mouth which threw assaults at victims of my father with power, to never cheat a woman and to make the woman whom I love just mine, forever. One of those promises came back to me when I saw NK with you. And the result is nothing you have not known. "

Arnav expelled the breath which he was holding without his knowledge while Khushi stared at him incredulously. This man had stored too much of pain in himself for long and Khushi found herself sympathizing with him, after all they were afflicted with the same unfortunate fate, but his was worse. She didn't see them die, in fact she doesn't even remember them and that reduces her pain. But Arnav Singh Raizada had not just seen them die, but writhe in pain helplessly and also was the one who ignited the funeral pyre, during the crucial teenage.

" But why me," Khushi helplessly wondered and she was blissfully unaware that her doubt was voiced and was not just pondered about till he answered it for her.

" Because you reminded me of my mother. That innocence, that radiant smile, that selfless nature, and, I guess everything did. She had the same warmth in her eyes as you and your innocence was something which wouldn't let you get lost among a billion. I come here everyday. When I came here to see my mother, the day I met you for the first time, I saw you instead of her and I knew I had fallen hard. Instincts kicked in, just as they did when I announced that Anjali would stay with me and Nani, and your closeness to NK troubled me. I didn't want to lose you like my mother lost my father because I knew that if I lost someone like her again, I wouldn't have the motivation to live anymore. I realized my mistake only when i saw your pain, your emotionless mask and your monotonous behavior. That hurt me and it slapped me on the face that if I was hurt seeing you like this, how much pain must you be enduring.

Believe me when I say that I want to relieve you of this pain but I cannot afford to. I love you and Anjali more than anything, after all you are all that I have. And if I break this marriage and reveal the truth, both of you will leave me. Utterly selfish of me. What to do, I proved to be my father's son. But only thing I can do now is to allow you to leave me if you want. My mistakes and hence rightfully punishment should be mine and not yours."

Though Arnav turned around to hide the lone tear struggling its way towards the ground, Khushi knew that he was in deep pain and was crying by the way his voice cracked and his body stiffened.

Khushi's caring instincts kicked in. So what he had hurt her by marrying her forcibly, he was giving her a way out of it after letting out his biggest secret and trusting her immensely. If he can get rid of his ego and pride to apologize to her then she can let go of her prejudice to console him, if not forgive him.

" You are not like him. Because if you were, you wouldn't be opening up on your past and giving me a chance to leave from here. You might have been selfish but you were not blind to not see m-my pain or your sister's expectations from you. And that sets you apart, Arnavji."

Arnav's pooled orbs stared at Khushi's warm eyes, reminding him of his mother and in a blur of a moment, Arnav was in Khushi's arms, shedding those tears which were never seen by anyone.

Emotional Update
Felt sorry for Arnav and his past. Arnav was emotional in letting Khushi knew about his loss and wanted her in his life because he sees his mother in her. Though he will be in pain he is ready to let go of Khushi so that she will not be in pain because of him. Loved how Arnav let his tears not hiding infront of Khushi. Though Khushi forgave him for forcing her into marriage waiting to see will she leave Arnav or get married to him.

Thanks for the PM
