Like every girl, she too dreamed of a prince charming. Someone, who will make a princess. She believed in fairy tales. Even though she knew that real life is far more complicated than fairy tales, she wanted to make her story a fairy tale. She weaved dreams about her future, at a very tender age. She was inspired by the bed time fairy tales her mother used to narrate her when she was a child. She wanted to lead a royal life as a princess. Not every girl is lucky to find a life partner who would treat her like a queen. She was fortunate enough to be blessed with the best life partner that anyone could possibly ask for. Today is the day, she'd been eagerly waiting for. To start a new chapter in her life, with more responsibilities. She is no more the naive person who used to be a couple of years back. She is going to start her new life journey with him beside her. A new milestone in life. A new name for their relationship from lovers to life partners.
She was getting ready for her big day. She looked at her reflection on the mirror. A bright smile crept in her beautiful face. A smile filled with extreme happiness. Then she noticed the reflection of her mother's face in the mirror. Her mother put her hands around her shoulder and was staring at her on the mirror. She noticed the tears in her mother's eyes. She knew that they were mixed with happiness and sorrow. She was the apple of her mother's eye. She knew that it is going to be hard for both of them to stay without each other.
'Maa..' She turned back. Her mother smiled trying to conceal her sorrows. Her mother cupped her face.
'You look so beautiful today.' She spoke softly. Her voice was wobbly. A daughter is precious to a mother. Raising up a daughter is difficult than raising up a son, with lots of responsibilities on a mother's shoulder. It is a universal truth that daughters do not mean to be with their parents. She should leave her family when the time comes. She should leave her family aside to form a new family.
'Wasn't I beautiful yesterday?' She chuckled.
'You were my dear. Not only today. For me, you are the most beautiful child in the whole wide world.' Her mother smiled.
'Maa.. I'm not a child anymore.' She chuckled again.
'Children may outgrow of their parents laps. But they never outgrow from their hearts.' 'I still remember the day I saw your face for the first time Madhu. You made me a mother. You gave me the most precious position in the world. 25 years have passed. But you will always be my little girl.' Her mother smile amidst tears. It was an emotional moment for both of them.
She was Madhubala Malik, a charming young lady who was in her mid twenties. She was the only child in her family. She was born to a conservative middle class family. The apple of her parents' eyes. Her father Shamsher Malik retired from his post as a vice principal a month back. Her mother Padmini, is a house wife. Though her parents couldn't give her a royal life like in fairy tales, they always tried their best to give a comfortable life to their only daughter.
Madhu pursued her academic goals, as an accountant. She wanted to pay back her parents and wanted to keep them comfortable and happy during the latter half of their lives. She had witnessed the struggle her parents underwent to raise her up, nourish her and educate her.
She felt two protective hands on her shoulders. It was her father. Shamsher was proud of his daughter. He smiled at her.
'Papa..' She hugged him tightly. No matter how much her father was strict, she loved him the most. Padmini & Shamsher looked at each other. Both of them understood the pain, deep down in their hearts. There was no option than letting their daughter go away from them.
Trio shared an emotional moment with each other. Her parents tried their best to conceal their sorrows. They didn't want to make her daughter sad. Though Madhu was eager about her marriage the excitement slightly faded away when the days were coming nearer as the fact hit her hard that she is not going to be with her parents anymore. After a few minutes, her parents left the room, busy with the last minute preparations.
She was dressed up in a gorgeous red lehenga. The heavy jewellery gave her a hard time but she was patient enough to bear up it. Though they were heavy, those beautiful jewellery multiplied her beauty.
She heard her mobile buzzing. A smile crept on her face noticing the caller id on her mobile.
'Hey beautiful! She heard her favourite voice from the other end.
'Hmm.. seems like someone is impatient to see me!' She chuckled.
'How can a person be patient on his wedding day?' He replied.
'What's up? my to-be pati?'
'The ceiling.' He chuckled.
'Hahaha I was expecting that reply from you.' She smiled.
'Can't wait to make you mine Madhu.'
'I'm already yours Rishu.'
'I know, but today we will make it official.'
'Rishu?'
'Hmm?'
'Is this a dream?' 'I can't believe I'm gonna marry you!'
'It is the reality, Madhu. Just a few hours left to make our dream come true.'
'I love you Rishu.'
'Love you too, Biwi'
'Biwi?'
'Haha yeah. I will call you by that name. Isn't it lovely?'
'Hmm...' His response made Madhu blush.
Soon they disconnected the call as Rishabh was called by his parents to leave for the wedding rituals.
He was supposed to leave his house in another few minutes. He felt something strange. A suffocated feeling that almost made him uncomfortable. He felt dizzy & his head started aching like never before. He almost dropped himself on the sofa rather than sitting on it, holding his head with a great pain. He re-called the similar headaches he got for the past few days for no reason which he ignored all of those.
'Rishu, what happened?' Radha, Rishabh's mother inquired him, worried about her son.
'Umm.. nothing maa, just a headache'
'Headache? Why is that? Didn't you eat? How many times I told you to take care of yourself. You've been running here and there!'
'Maa.. how can I just stay idling? It's my wedding. I have to look on everything, not a single mistake would be there on the preparations.'
'I know you want everything perfect but health should always come first. You've been so much exhausted for the past few days.' His mom taunted.
'Maa.. what if I repeat the same to you?' 'Even you didn't take care of yourself ever since the wedding preps started. You were always on your toes. Just sit back and relax! Everything is alright now'
'Haha in a way, this would be a good practice for me to run after my grandson or granddaughter one day.' Radha chuckled.
'See how far you have thought maa!' Rishabh smiled. His mom offered him a pain killer to make him better throughout the function that would take several hours. He felt a bit better.
The groom and his family & friends reached to the hall where the wedding was arranged to take place. The bride, Madhu was dressed up in a beautiful bridal attire which almost captured everyone's attention.
Rishabh and Madhu exchanged an eye lock. Rishabh was mesmerized with her beauty.
The wedding rituals started. The symptoms that made Rishabh uncomfortable, popped up again. This time, it was much more severe. He felt as if someone is sawing his brain in to two. He was disturbed by the severe headache that made him dizzy. He started sweating.
'Rishu?' 'Are you okay?' Madhu whispered, worried about his condition.
Rishabh nodded, pretending to be fine. He tied the nuptial chain on Madhu's neck. Madhu's eyes moisturized with happy tears. Rishabh caressed her face.
Rishabh's headache increased within the next few seconds. He felt dizzy. His vision was blurred. He started rubbing his eyes but he was unable to see Madhu who was sitting beside him. He was about to keep the sindoor on her forehead. Madhu was closing her eyes in anticipation.
Rishabh couldn't figure out what was happening inside his body. It was so painful that he couldn't control himself anymore. Within no time he collapsed on the ground.
'Rishuuu!!' His mom Radha screamed out of fear. Everyone stood up wondering what happened to Rishabh. Madhu was shocked to see Rishabh lying on the floor. The red sindoor was all over the floor.
'Rishuuu!' 'Rishuuu!' She screamed loud. 'Rishu please! Rishu please open your eyes! She almost shook him. She was holding him tightly, but there was no response.
Rishabh was rushed to the hospital emergency unit. Madhu was there holding his hand. She kept calling his name trying to wake him up. She couldn't believe what was happening. She couldn't run fast with her bridal attire. She didn't want to let him go.
'Rishuuu..' She cried while the doctors guided him to the emergency theater. She was all numb. Everyone was devastated about this incident which happened unexpectedly. Both the parents could not believe it. All of them were worried about Rishabh and also Madhu. It was so unfortunate that Rishabh fell sick on their wedding day.
The doctor came out after examining Rishabh. Madhu and others were waiting with much anticipation to know about Rishabh's condition.
'Doctor! Doctor Rishu? Doctor.. please tell me my Rishu is fine?' Madhu sobbed. She was almost shivering out of fear. She was worried about him more than anyone else.
The doctor was silent for a while. His silence made all of them more worried.
'Doctor! Please tell me how my son is? What happened to him?' Rishabh's father Mohan inquired the doctor.
'Mr. Kundra, this is a serious issue.' 'Rishabh will have to undergo some further tests. As per the examination we did a few minutes back, it is clear that he might be suffering from a brain tumor.'
'What?' The doctor's reply made all of them shocked.
'Yes. We need to clarify it. If it turns out to be true, then Rishabh will have to undergo a surgery as soon as possible as it is a threat to his life.'
Those words were like bullets for Madhu. She was wounded by them. She couldn't believe what was happening in their life. She almost dropped herself down senselessly. She was on her bridal attire, her eyes were filled with tears.
'No! This can't happen. This is not possible!' 'Rishuuu!!' She screamed, almost crying her heart out. The worst part was, there marriage was left incomplete.
Pre cap - 'I can't marry you Madhu.' 'Please! leave me alone.'
