Comedy Nights Live does not match upto Kapil Sharma's Comedy Nights with Kapil, here's why!

Keeping aside the bias and prejudices, Comedy Nights Live disappointed on many counts

Comedy Nights with Kapil was a totally lovable show. One just cannot deny that. The zany team of Kapil, bua, Manju, dadi, Palak and Gutthi made our Sunday nights a roaring one. So, the news of the show going off-air was indeed disheartening for viewers, including me. However, I tried to keep my bias and prejudices aside when I watched the first episode of Comedy Nights Live. While I applaud Krushna Abhishek for having the guts to step into Kapil Sharma's shoes', the way the first show panned out was highly unfortunate. With Krushna and his gang getting such a huge platform, we would have hoped that the team focused on the creative content rather than on Kapil Sharma's exit.

Firstly, the jokes on Kapil were in poor taste. While he might have had issues with the star comedian, the first episode was no platform to vent out one's feelings. And if he thought he was being discreet then he is mistaken. Kapil's fans, who were willing to give a chance to Krushna were extremely put off with such negativity. There is no denying that Krushna too is pretty talented and he could have used this opportunity to showcase his best rather than harp about Kapil and what went wrong. One should also note that Kapil never made fun of any comedian on his show.

After the first episode, it became evident where Navjot Singh Sidhu's loyalties were. The hot seat was taken by another colourful Punjabi, Mika Singh, the singer. The Rakhi Sawant controversy where the Tu Mera Hero crooner had smooched the item girl is a decade old. It happened in 2006 (Yes, you read that right!). Sadly, all the jokes made on Mika were on that matter only. It was not surprising to see the singer looking disinterested after a while. After all, he has graduated from a bad boy to a top singer with panache. Wish Krushna had shown some comic flair too! Everyone will agree that a good satirist needs to be aware of what's currently happening around him to crack a joke or two. No awareness, no spontaneity!

Doing comedy is a tough. The best of actors across the world vouch for that. While I can empathize with Krushna, who has to manage two comedy shows, there is no excuse for being so repetitive, at least on the inaugural show. We have seen Bharti mimicking a child a zillion times and Krushna in drag in every other show. Drag, dance and a total drag, this is how one can sum up the entire episode.

It is tough to replace Kapil Sharma because he created an extremely strong brand. However, there are zillions of talented people in the country who would grab such a platform to showcase some originality, what say?
