PART-14:
Night 12:30; working women's hostel room:
Vijji just returned from the award ceremony and got changed into her night wear and took a bottle full of water and sat with her laptop and camera by her side. She could not control her anxiety to have a look at the pictures which she clicked at the most classy and grand party she has ever attended till date. She was exhausted but her anxiety over powered her tiredness and that made her sit infront of the laptop at that late night. By the time the pics were copied she settled herself on the bed leaning onto the head board of the bed. She was watching all the pics again and again as she could not get enough of it. The business tycoons and their families and the grand venue and the elite arrangements had made her feel excited and happy to witness all that in real. As she was going thru the pics she was trying to collect the interactions she had with them and the information she collected about each and every business man. As a journalist out of her habit she started noting down about the event and the interactions she had with some of them. When she was doing this one of the pics which she took on the pool side grabbed her attention.
Amidst the beautiful arrangements and the many people present around the pool side the presence of two persons caught her eye. It is always said that we need to have an eye of a journalist to see the hidden truth and being a journalist her eyes has seen something which reminded her of any earlier similar incident and probably her mind was trying to hint something. More keenly she looked at the pic more she could relate with the earlier such incident. Vijji immediately opened pic of that incident and zoomed it and tried to match it or precisely was trying to find the similarity. And that's it after a careful observation she could clearly spot the similarities. By comparing the old pic with the new one she could realize that the one in the old pic for whom she was searching since the time she came to Kolkata was none other than the one who were present in the today's pool side pic that is ragini and swara.
Vijji clicked the pics of pool side from the first floor of the other end of the pool. When she clicked pics ragini and swara were captured in it with swara's back and ragini's face to the camera. Ragini and swara were standing in the same position just like the way they were captured in her earlier pics which she had from her parents Kolkata tour. The earlier pics were from a much farther distance and the faces of the girls were clearly not visible but the present day's pic clearly contained their faces. Vijii to reconfirm herself checked the pics many more times and each time she looked at both the pics she was more and more convinced with the similarities she was able to find in both the pics. Finally she concluded that it was swara and ragini in that pics. But that conclusion has brought a wave of questions in her mind. She was unable to answer any of them. Though her observations made her feel that she was right in guessing the people but the unanswerable questions weakened her assumptions. she thought, " if those were swara and ragini really then why would ragini try to kill swara? Swara is such a nice girl and she could never think of hurting someone why would she do something wrong with ragini? and according to my knowledge even ragini is a nice girl. She is praised by all in the Marwari community and the women communities when I went there. I know that ragini and swara are step sisters but that cant be enough reason to take this step. And if ragini was the one who tried to kill her then why is swara calm and if swara is calm how can sanskaar be calm. Are they trying to protect ragini or they are calm as they don't have any proofs??" after so many questions started running in her mind she made a note of them and tried to answer them for the limited information she had about the maheshwari's families. After a lot of discussion with her self she decided to find about the relation between swara and ragini and also to know what was ragini and swara doing on the second of august of the previous year to confirm whether they were the one who were present in the pics or not. To answer all these questions she thought of meeting a close friend of swara who lived in baadi and is well known to her also. And then she decided to meet ragini and swara if at all she needed any more information.
Night 12:30, swara and sanskar room:
Sanskaar and swara returned from the award ceremony and sanskaar was looking at some of documents which were urgent for the next day's work and waiting for swara who was changing into her night wear. After few minutes swara came swiftly towards sanskar and pulled the file from his hand and sat on his lap and hugged him tightly. even before sanskaar could realise what was happening she kissed him tightly on his right cheek and hugged him tightly. sanskaar though in confusion loved her move and smiled at her and wounded his hands around her waist and called her name.
Swara broke the hug and looked at him with a broad smile. He could realise that she was happy but he doesn't know why she was happy and when he asked her the reason she gave another peck and started "today im so happy and there can never be a better ending for this day than this." sanskaar smiled seeing her happiness though he has no idea about what she was referring to. He asked her to say the reason for her happiness. swara looked at him lovingly and with almost tears in her eyes she started " jaan.. just now I realized that I missed my periods and when I tested the pregnancy test was positive". Listening to this sanskaar remained calm. He was trying to decode what his wife said to him few seconds ago in his mind and the moment he realized he asked her for a reassurance with his eyes and she replied yes with almost tears welling up in her eyes. she took his hand and kept it on her stomach and said "yes sanskaar im pregnant this time. Its our baby and im very much sure about it." This made sanskaar's heart beat faster. He just hugged her tightly for few minutes and then broke the hug and kissed her all over her face. He was smiling madly the happiness in his eyes and on his face was indescribable. He just hugged her back and then took her in his arms and walked till their bed and made her sit on it and he kneeled down before her and placed his hands on her lap and looked into her eyes with smile on his lips and tears in his eyes.
She could understand his happiness. she just rushed her fingers thru his hair and made his head rest on her lap near to her stomach and she bent down and laid her head on his head. after few minutes he asked her when shall they reveal this news to the family members. Swara said that once they are sure and confirmed by the doctor then they will break the news to the family as she doesn't want to disappoint them again like the last time and he agreed to it. They both slept cuddling each other and preparing themselves to welcum a new chapter into their lives.
Next morning:
Swara and sanskaar left to the hospital for check up and consulted Dr. Anjali. She has sent swara's blood for the test and they were waiting for the reports. The reports arrived and Dr. Anjali declared that swara was pregnant and the reports were positive. She even said that swara was physically fit and there were no complications in her pregnancy but even said her to be calm and composed and not to take any stress on her as it is not good for the baby and herself. Anjali and ajay congratulated them and Sanskaar and swara were more than happy and they thanked Anjali for the news and left to home. Anjali and ajay were also happy for swara and sanskaar as finally they both found their happiness after a lot of struggle.
Swara and sanskaar reached their house and even called sharmista and dida to reach there. After sharmista and dida reached the house swara and sanskaar declared that swara was pregnant and she and baby were fit and fine and everything is fine now.sujata, ram Prasad, sharmista and dida all were happy with the news. Happiness had no bounds in their house for that moment. Everyones faces were clearly reflecting their happiness. all of them hugged and blessed the couple.
That evening Ram Prasad maheshwari invited his brother durga Prasad and his family for the dinner to share the gud news. Even shekhar dada and dadi were also invited along with them. Sujata and sharmista were preparing for the dinner while swara was sitting in her room thinking about something. Sanskaar who returned to his room after a discussion with ram Prasad on some official matters saw her lost in thoughts. he came and sat beside her and made her lean her head on his shoulder and asked her the reason for her worry.
Sw: sanskaar I don't know I feel everyone will not be happy with this news.
Sa: I know that shona but we cant do anything for that. Our happiness is important for us. There are people around us who are happy for us. Then why do u think about others.
Sw: I agree for that sanskaar but I don't want our baby to see the same hatred which we are witnessing now. I don't want my baby to be hated by anyone for the things which are blamed of.
Sanskaar understands her and hugs her more tightly and says "I don't know how and why shona but im sure that by the time our baby comes into this world the whole truth will be out infront of all and everyone will respect us more and will love our baby unconditionally. This baby has come after a lot of struggle and it brought lot of happiness and hope in our lives and now she will get the respect and love we deserve . But don't worry as a father I will protect my baby from all the hatred and will never allow any hate or negativity to touch my baby. I promise u that."
Listening to those words swara leaned more close to him and kissed him on his cheek expressing her happiness and trust on him. sanskaar asked swara to take rest as she was looking little tired but swara suddenly sat and was looking completely restless. Sanskaar was shocked looking at her. she was just holding her neck and was trying to take deep breathes as she was feeling suffocated. Sanskaar was totally worried and he went near her as he came near her she was feeling more irritated and then ran into the washroom. Sanskaar too followed her and saw her puking in the washroom. He waited outside little tensed and as she came out he went near to her to ask her condition and as he came closer she went away from him. when he tried to catch her hand she stepped back and asked him to stay away from him. he was shocked at her behavior. She never behaved so and in a shock he asked "what happened shona?? Why r u moving away from me??"
Sw: the smell.. its irritating.
San: smell?? What smell??
Sw: the smell of ur perfume. Its irritating sanskaar. Just don't come near me. I may puke again. Its making me go restless. Please don't come near me..
San: but shona this is ur favorite one. And u gifted me this. (he takes a step ahead)
Sw: I know.. but I don't like that now. I guess this a symptom of pregnancy. U never know what irritates u during this time. So don't come near me.(she moves back a step)
Sa: ok ok.. but are u ok??
Sw: im ok now. But if I get this smell again I will not be ok..
San: oh God.. then what should I do.?? I wanna be with u but u.. (thinks for a minute) ok I will just take a shower and come back.. is it ok..
Swara nods.. she was looking totally flushed out and restlessness was clearly visible on her face. She moved towards the bed and sat there. sanskaar from far away moved towards the cupboard and took the towel and went for a shower. By the time he came from the bath swara was walking in the room. As he came she could smell some freshness in the room. When she turned back sanskaar stood infront of her with just a towel wrapped around his waist and with water drops dripping from his hair and upper body. She was mesmerized at him. though this was not the first time but she always loved watching him so. She slowly moved towards him and stood infront of him and closed her eyes and inhaled the fresh aura of him. as she stood with her eyes closed, he disturbed her by tapping on her cheek. She looked at him and he signaled "what" she just moved towards him and hugged him and nuzzled her head into the crook of his neck and said "I love this smell. U smell so fresh and good.please don't use those stupid perfumes from today they irritate me. Ok" sanskaar replied yes and smiled at her mood swings and hugged her back. After a few minutes he got ready in his casuals and both of them slept to take some rest before the evening dinner.
Afternoon 3pm ; Baadi :
Vijji after finishing her college went to baadi to meet Neha mukerjee who was best friend of swara since her childhood and stayed in baadi. Even neha's mom and sharmista are friends and so nothing about swara's and sharmista's past was hidden from them. Neha also knew vijji as vijji met swara many times in the college when she was working for the coverage on project DHSR. Viji entered the room of neha and asked to tell all the details she knew about swara and ragini and their relation how it was and how it is now and what was the reason for the change of their relation. She assured her that the information she is gonna give will not be leaked to any one and moreover she wanted to use it to solve problems in swara's life. she assured neha that she cant disclose the reason why she need the details but promises to not misuse them against swara. Knowing what type of girl viji is and having trust in her professional ethics neha agreed to give all the information she know about swara and ragini. viji started recording their conversation in a recorder so that she can listen to it repeatedly if needed.
Neha started explaining things to viji. she initially explained about the family background of swara and ragini and the relation between sharmista and shekhar which she got to know from her mom, and then She said "initially ragini was engaged to laksh but laksh fell in love with swara and he broke the alliance with ragini." this shocked viji. but she kept calm to know the whole story. And neha continued " later after few days ragini made swara to accept her love for laksh and she declared that she was happy with swara and laksh's marriage. There were a series of events happened in swara's life after her match was fixed with laksh. None of them had explanations. And then on the wedding day of swara and laksh everything changed between swara and ragini. the two sisters who were very close became like enemies and now everything has changed between them. I got to know that ragini was the reason for swara and sanskaar to leave their ancestral home and stay in another house." listening to this viji was more confused. To clear her confusion she asked many questions to neha.
Viji: ok.. but can u tell me when was this marriage happened?? I mean the date and time??
Neh: wait I have the wedding card of swara and laksh with me which I have found in my old books I will get that.
she gives the card to vijji . vijji notices the date to be 2 august and that was the same date which was on the pics too. so viji was damn sure that the girls in the pics were swara and ragini (as she noted earlier that the girl wearing a red saree must be married or might be getting married) and now she need to know why did ragini try to kill swara. She asked neha to explain all the events of that day in line if posiible and neha explained vijji all the events that happened that day in detail. Vijji was totally confused with all that she heard and then she asked her some more questions.
Viji: so u have seen swara and ragini going together but only ragini retuned back from temple. Can u tell for how much time ragini was out that day?? And do u have any idea to which temple they have gone??
Neha: yes they both went together and only ragini came back. Ya since it was during holidays I got up around 8 and when I was brushing in my balcony I have seen them going. And I guess around 9:30 or 9:45 ragini came back and said that swara alone went to the temple. I don't know clearly to which temple they went .. (thinks for sometime) wait I have listened to uncle saying that swara went to shiva's temple on river bank. After the puja in temple bride usually does puja to river and throws flowers and some Prasad into river and wishes for her happiness and long married life. so she has gone to that temple only.
Listening to this vijji was more sure about her assumptions. She again asked neha "when did swara return back? How was she I mean was she normal or something was wrong with her?"
Neh: no when I have seen her she was completely broken down to know that ragini and laksh were married and ya she looked pale and there was a bandage on her forehead. I guess she met with some accident that day that was why she couldnot come to wedding. But I don't know how that video came. Moreover it was swara who was in the video who said clearly that she doesn't want to marry laksh.
Viji thanked neha for all the information and went back to her house trying to decode what has happened.
Evening swasan house:
Durga Prasad and family arrived for the dinner at almost 7 in the evening. And even shekhar and dadi joined them on the invitation from ram Prasad maheshwari. Sharmista, sujata and ram Prasad greeted all of them and the younger people took blessings from the elders of the house and took their places. They were given the sharbath and that was when swara and sanskaar reached the hall. As they reached downstairs ram Prasad declared the reason for the arrangement of the this dinner and declared to all that swara and sanskaar were expecting their kid and he is gonna be grand pa soon. All felt happy. Ragini laksh and Annapurna were shocked. Though Annapurna was shocked looking at sanskaar she was happy for him. now since her son life is all settled she was ok with the thought of swara's and sanskaar's child. Shekar felt happy for swara but on seeing unhappiness on ragini's face he kept calm. Dadi was completely not happy with the news thinking about ragini.
On listening to the news parineeta ran to swara and hugged her and congratulated them. Even adarsh hugs sanskaar and congratulate them. After adarsh and parineeta laksh and ragini goes near swara and congratulate them. Ragini hugs swara and wishes her but the moment ragini hugs swara she starts feeling irritated because of the smell of her perfume and runs towards the washroom and pukes. Seeing her running everyone will be confused and when Annapurna asks for the reason sanskaar explains that she was puking since morning at smelling some strong perfumes. As they finished the talk swara enters. Upon seeing swara ragini asks her how she was feeling and also inquires about her health in a mocking way. Sanskaar gets angry at the way she asks the question but answers back coolly saying everything is absolutely fit and fine. Ragini understands that sanskaar was angry and tries to add fuel to the fire by asking sujata whether she will allow swara to have non veg during her pregnancy as in pregnancy ladies crave for variety of things? And what would she do if swara wants to have non veg??
Su: I have absolutely no problem ragini. if my bahu wants to have non veg she will have it. For me her happiness and health is more important than all these customs and traditions. I have learnt to accept all these and I don't mind them now.. I cant say no to the wishes of any pregnant lady and this is my bahu What ever she wishes for will be fulfilled
Everyone were stunned at her answer. Especially durga Prasad and Annapurna.

Suj: yes ragini I have no problem with swara being a bengali. I have understood we need to judge people only on the basis of whether they are good or bad but not on their caste creed and religion. And I know that my swara is good and I love her and so for all of us her happiness is important.
Ragini shuts her mouth upon listening to the answer. When everyone were calm dida comes with some fruits flowers and gifts for swara as a part of shagun. On listening to the words of ragini and sujata while coming dida answers back ragini as soon as she enters. She keeps the things aside and looks at ragini and says " u need not worry about shonu ragini. her dida is still alive if swara wants to eat non veg she will come to my house and will eat. U need not worry for that. So how is ur health?? Which week are u in??
Rag: 8 week nani..
As dida gets the things sharmista makes swara sits on the sofa and starts filling her godh with the fruits flowers and sweets and gifts which dida brought as a shagun. Along with sharmista sujata also presents a small necklace to swara for giving the good news. After the rasam is finished, everyone finishes their dinner and leaves to their house.
Vijji's room:
Viji has recorded the whole conversation between her and neha and went on listening to it and started to understand it. After a a lot of struggle she could decode some things from the info she got. She now concluded a theory about the happenings of that day, it is "on wedding day swara and ragini both went to the temple around 8 and ragini came back around 9:30 and the since the temple was just a distance of 20 min travel from baadi she definitely went there and then she pushed swara into the river after the puja at around 9 which is time present in the pics and then she came back baadi after getting ready by 9:30 and then shekar uncle went to temple and searched for swara but she was not there as she was flown away in river and by the time he reached baadi baraat came to home. Then laksh received a video from swara's phone. Since swara was flown by river the video has to be sent by ragini who might be having swara's phone with her. laksh was disheartened seeing it and ragini acted innocent but when truth about ragini's intentions were exposed by dida she played an emotional drama and married laksh. I guess the video might have been some morphed one where swara might have said something else and ragini could have morphed the voice over of it. its not a big deal. so now the picture is clear about the wedding day. And then out of no choice swara had to marry sanskaar and the both fell in love and are living happily now." This was the theory she could form.
After getting into a conclusion viji was confused with her next step. She did not know whether she needs to give the pics to swara or sanskaar or police. Viji had a doubt that swara might have been protecting her sister from getting imprisoned and that was why she is calm till date. She was even against the submission of proofs to police as maheshwari's being the people of high society would influence the police and get their bahu out of the mess. As she is a journalist, and was always made to take an oath of standing by the side of truth and getting the culprit punished she could not let this case go so easily. So she kept on thinking about a source thru which she can get ragini punished. she was irritated with the thought of a person killing her own sibling for some one's else love and wanted to get the culprit punished at any cost.
After a lot of thinking she could find a person who could help her and he was none other than the district collector Mr. Prashanth Banerjee.. he was an officer well known for his honesty and sincerity. In his service of 30 years as an IAS officer he was known to face the most challenging cases and solve them without any further issues. Viji now thought of handing over this information to him and get the justice done. With that thought she immediately called at his residence and asked for permission to meet him the next day.
Swasan house:
Swara and sanskaar waved a good bye to the maheshwari's and had a thought of going for a walk for a while in the pleasant weather. Sujata asked them to come back and also informed them about her mannat she wished at the pahaadi durga ma temple which was in the outskirts of the Kolkata city. She asked swara and sanskaar to visit the temple the next day as that day was auspicious and she wished that she would send her son and bahu when her bahu will give them a good news. Though sanskaar tries to explain sujata that swara was little weak and they would go some other time but swara agreed for that and assured sujata that they will visit the temple the next day. After sujata left sanskaar started to scold swara for her behavior.
San: shona don't u know u are weak. U have been puking the whole day and now why did u agree for mom's wish. Please atleast from now learn to think about urself and stop worrying about others.
Swa: baby. i agreed to it as it was about a mannat and mom wished it for us. So I could not say no. and im ok sanskaar. I can go. Moreover even I wanted to visit that place. Finally durga ma has given us such a big happiness in our lives its our duty to thank her. so we will go. And I promise from now I will only think about my health and our baby. promise.
Looking at her face sanskaar's anger melted within seconds. And he agreed to her words without any further argument. After a small walk they both returned to their room and called it an off.
