Chapter 34
They had been so happy, Ragini thought as she rearranged the wardrobe for the fourth time.
These past few months, he had been everything she could have dreamed of and more. He had held nothing back... not attention, not affection and pampering, he had not skimped on respect and honour. He had listened to her! No one had ever listened to her like that... He had behaved as if... almost as if he loved her... as if she hadn't cheated him into marrying her instead of her sister...
She remembered how he looked like standing there on the upper corridor, looking at her with such disappointment when he worked out it had been she who had plotted against Swara... her heart had plummeted, she could have sunk into the ground at that moment... but when he asked, she tried to brazen it out... hoping the problem would just go away if she beat it with a stick. She had sworn to herself that she would never ever do such a thing again... but... He had pounded and pounded for the truth... and now, she thought, tears streaming down her face, it had all gone wrong. He was upset with her, he had left home rather than be with her... she had let him down, let herself down.
And for such a stupid reason too. Swara didn't matter now, she KNEW that. If she had learnt one thing these past months, it was that Lakshya was a man of honour. He had made that commitment to her and he had meant it... he would not go back on that, and she had brought Swara into the conversation, like a fool! She didn't really think he was entangled with love for Swara any more... she had just been trying to backfoot him... and it had backfired on her. He hadn't respected her to begin with and now, he thought she was a compulsive liar... and...
He had been gone five days. The days were terrible and the nights were torture. She missed him. Ragini collapsed on the bed, sobbing. She had ruined it all!
