CHAPTER 15. ARNAV GETS JEALOUS PART I!
"Kya? Sachchi? Oh! I did not know!", Khushi mumbled with excitement of her face. It was the day after the party and Khushi was talking on the phone. "No! No! I am free! Just having breakfast, you know! Did you have your breakfast yet?", Khushi continued. She was seated on the breakfast table listening to Arnav scold her when her phone rang. Any other day Khushi would have excused herself but right now she was so annoyed at Arnav that her manners went right out of the window and she sat right there and took her phone.
"Achcha! Parathe? Gobi ke?", anyone around Khushi could see that she was salivating at the thought of those parathas. And then the person calling her asked her something and she visibly deflated, "Kahaan yaar? I am stuck eating salads!", she tossed an annoyed look at Arnav and continued speaking, "My teacher is a health freak!" Khushi continued to speak on the phone.
Watching all this was a fuming Arnav and amused Anjali and Aakash. Arnav watched with narrowed eyes. As he was seated closest to her, he could actually hear the voice of the person calling her and without knowing his hands clenched the fork and spoon tightly as a male voice came out of Khushi's phone. He was just scolding Khushi at what all wrong things she did the night before which was one page long in his eyes when she cut him off to answer some phone! Arnav was beyond annoyed right now. How dare she chose to pick up the phone when he was scolding her? Arnav could not fathom what was more important than him right now to Khushi. And then he heard, a male voice! Arnav did not know why but his anger rose at this and right now the fork and spoon were in danger of being permanently disfigured.
Thankfully for Arnav's fork and spoon the danger lessened as Khushi replied with "I will think and answer!" and kept the phone. If fork and spoon could speak, you would have heard them sigh in relief.
Anjali and Aakash passed amused looks to each other as they noticed Khushi's oblivious attitude and Arnav's blatant anger filled staring. Both had only one thought. Naaniji would have enjoyed this! Unfortunately for Naaniji, she left early morning as she liked the comfort of her farm house more than the city house.
Khushi smiled as she disconnected the call. Prem was so sweet. She smilingly looked up and then her smile disappeared when she took in Arnav's anger filled eyes. She gulped. Oh teri! It seems his rants have yet to end! Rant away Mr. Raizada! I think you are bursting with words to scold me! Suddenly, Khushi had the image in her mind of Arnav bloating up and then bursting. She giggled and that was the trigger for Arnav Singh Raizada!
"ENOUGH!", Arnav roared as he slammed the hands on the table.
Khushi looked at Anjali and Aakash helplessly. Her eyes seemed to ask when Arnav's anger will abet. Both shook their heads. Khushi wondered whether they were trying to signal never or they just did not know.
"Yeh ho kya raha hai yahaan pe? What is happening here?", Arnav shouted, "I am here teaching you valuable things and you would rather waste the time laughing like a donkey on the phone!"
Both Anjali and Aakash winced. Aakash shook his head. Bro! Don't you know? You should never compare a woman to an animal! No wonder you are so clueless when it came to matters of heart!
"Kya kahaa?", Khushi stood up annoyed, "Did you just call me a donkey?" She glared at him.
"What? Of course not! Don't be ridiculous!", Arnav snapped, "Here I am talking to you about something important and you are thinking about donkeys! Who was that man on the phone? You were giggling and cracking jokes, acting so idiotic. He must have thought of you as a fool! Is this how I taught you to behave in upper society? You are ruining your reputation in front of this man! Who was it?"
Aha! Aakash smirked. It was a man! No wonder you are acting like this! You are jealous bro! Awesome!
Khushi was bursting to shout at Arnav, Aakash could see. But suddenly, instead of shouting back, she simply closed her eyes and after taking a deep breath, she spoke in a cool and calm voice, "Why do you care?"
Arnav seemed to be taken back by her reaction, Khushi realised. Very good! It is about time the tables are turned and you are the one being confused! I am tired of your tirade and your emotions doing swinging between being proud of me and being angry at me. And I am also tired of being your proverbial punching bag, the person you always scold even when it is not my fault.
Khushi huffed out her breath and stared at Arnav, "Answer me Sir! Why do you care? Yes! You should worry about how I behave in the party! But here? Here I can behave the way I want; you have no right to stop me! So why do you care?"
And then her eyes burned with anger as Khushi continued, "And as far as the person I am talking to is concerned, it is none of your business who I talk to!"
With a final glare, Khushi turned and stormed off.
Arnav stood there stupefied as to what had happened. The cold manner with which Khushi had dealt with him left him feeling empty. It was cold, calculative and definitely not the way Khushi normally behaved. The warm and sunny manner that Arnav associated with Khushi was nowhere to be seen and Arnav felt empty without it.
"Yeh kya tha Chote? What was that?", Anjali asked Arnav. Aakash noticed that she was annoyed at Arnav. He chuckled. Anjali continued, "I did not expect this from you. Why do you even care about whom she talks to and how she talks to! I don't understand you! You act like idiot sometimes! Uff!", Anjali shook her head, "Why do you always scold Khushi? Poor thing! All she wanted was her dream job and to get her that you treat her so horribly. I am so annoyed at you!"
Anjali turned around and stormed away. Aakash followed her.
"You know I think something else is going on!", Aakash spoke as both walked to their rooms.
"Matlab? What do you mean?", Anjali looked confused.
"What if Bhai was jealous?", Aakash whispered with excitement.
"Jealous?", Anjali made a face, "Jealous for what? And jealous of whom?"
"I don't know what he was jealous of! But the way he asked who she was talking to was so possessive and reeked of jealousy!"
Anjali stopped walking and with hands on her hips she turned to look at Aakash, "Possessive? Reeked of jealousy? What have you been reading recently? Mills & Boons?"
Anjali chuckled and started to walk away but Aakash grabbed her arm effectively stopping her, "Laugh at me as much as you want, but you cannot deny that Bhai has been behaving out of character since Khushi arrived!"
"Ha ha ha!", Anjali laughed haughtily, "He always behaves out of character when anything disturbs his daily boring life!"
"I am not as assured as you are! I think something else is cooking here! I think Bhai is falling for Khushi and is in denial! And I am definitely sure that he is blaming Khushi for his heart's predicament!", Aakash explained.
They reached Anjali's room and just as Anjali was about to enter, she turned around and retorted, "Heart and denial? My foot! He is just disappointed that Khushi's antics yesterday set back his plans and there is just good chance that he might loose the bet! And that is why he is so annoyed!"
Anjali turned around, entered her room and closed the door. Aakash huffed. Why doesn't she believe me? Now with whom can I discuss this topic and see if my idea has any merit? Hmmm... Of course, Naaniji!
While Aakash planned to discuss the current situation with his Naaniji, Khushi on the other hand paced in her room as she fumed over the current situation, "What does he think of himself? So arrogant and annoying! I understand him scolding me about yesterday. Even though I defended his Naaniji, he is not happy with the way I went about it so he scolding me is also forgiven. But now he had no right to scold me. I can speak the way want to on my phone! Who is he to scold me? And then he went on to ask me whom I was talking to? Has he no value of my privacy? How could he? He has no right to complain about my informal talking. He should be thankful that I did not speak in Hindi and remembered to talk in English! Uff! Till now I tolerated you Arnav for my dreams! But now you are being intolerable!"
As Khushi paced around, she remembered the phone call. It was Prem! Just remembering him, Khushi felt a smile bloom on her face. Now here is a man who knows how to treat me! Khushi sighed softly. She remembered how Prem had asked her if she could show him Dilli this evening. At that time her first thought had been about how much training she needed to finish so she had politely told him that she will think and reply even though she had made her mind to say no. But now? She huffed. The way Arnav is behaving, I don't think I will have any confidence left by the time I get tested. Arnav keeps on constantly belittling me and irritating me. No! I have to get out of this house and throw Arnav and his cutting words out of my head. And spending time with Prem is the best option for it. She took a deep breath and nodded. Yes! She will go with Prem and show him Dilli today. She pulled out her phone and placed a call to Prem.
"Kya kahaa?", Aakash was amused as he heard his Naaniji speak on the phone, "Phir se bolo Aakash bitwa! Kya kahaa?"
"Haan Naaniji! I am not joking. Bhai was raging like a volcano! It was too funny to watch!", Aakash chuckled.
"Hmmm... interesting! But what was the reason behind his reaction? Don't tell me he is still ranting about yesterday night!", Naaniji mused.
"Oh no Naaniji! That's an old story! This is something new! Someone called Khushi and she talked very cheerfully and next thing you know Bhai is bursting like a bomb! I tell you, Naaniji he was jealous!", Aakash chuckled again.
"I don't know beta! Maybe he is just reacting over the fact that she is not taking his words seriously!", Naaniji replied cautiously.
Aakash shook his head, "Nahi Naaniji! I am sure there is something cooking between bhai and Khushi. If Bhai played his cards right, I might get a Bhabhi pretty soon!"
"Forget Bhabhi! You tell me when you are giving me a bahu!", Naaniji retorted.
Aakash rolled his eyes, "Aren't you satisfied by getting one bahu?"
"Don't change the topic!", Naaniji scolded and Aakash pouted, "Lets Arnav Bhai's love story come on track, then I will think about my love story! But first you focus on this and tell me, do you see what I see? Do you see the chemistry between Bhai and Khushi?"
Naaniji huffed, "By the way, I did see the sparks between them at the party! I could sense the chemistry!"
"Aha! So I am right. So there is something going on between them! Awesome!", Aakash crowed.
"But I warn you, don't meddle in their affairs! Let them make their own decisions!", Naaniji ordered Aakash.
"What? But if I left them to their own devices, Bhai will ruin everything!", Aakash whined.
"I don't care! You are not interfering!", Naaniji's voice raised.
Aakash sighed, "Fine!"
"No Khushi! Its fasaad! Its pronounced as fasaad!", Arnav explained.
Khushi frowned, "They write it as faade and call it fasaad! English is so weird!"
Arnav glared at her, "Why don't you focus on what I am teaching you? You can worry about why faade is called fasaad later!"
Khushi huffed and continued to read the paper in front of her aloud. It was training time for Khushi and Arnav was working with her on her diction.
"Charle. Magne..., Khushi read and Arnav interrupted, "Shar-le-Maan!"
"Kya?", Khushi looked at him confused.
"Its written as C.H.A.R.L.E.M.A.G.N.E but read as sharlemaan!", Arnav explained.
Khushi wanted to protest but gave up. She continued to read ahead and Arnav continued to correct her. Once she had gone through the words in front of her Arnav had her reading passages. After reading the same paragraphs for almost ten times, Khushi had enough, "Sir! How many times will you make me read the same para?"
"Till I am sure you can read it properly even half asleep!", Arnav growled out, "It is obvious that you need to get used to speaking in English! It seems you can easily revert to Hindi without any given warning and we don't want to have another fiasco like yesterday night on our hands again!"
Anjali opened her mouth to scold Arnav but stopped when Aakash shook his head. Aakash and Anjali were sitting nearby as usual observing the training and as usual Aakash had his camcorder recording the whole training too. Anjali leaned over and whispered, "Why did you stop me? Chote keeps on scolding her, not once relenting. We need to tell him that what he is doing is wrong!"
Aakash huffed and whispered back, "I know! But you are forgetting that Khushi can defend herself and as we saw in the morning she can shut Bhai up more effectively than you!" Anjali sent a glare his way but remained quiet.
While Aakash and Anjali were whispering, Arnav continued to rant about Khushi's antics the night before and after a while Khushi had enough. She interrupted him, "Mr. Raizada! We only have one hour of training daily! I would appreciate if you would not waste it with your rants!"
Arnav took in a sharp breath at Khushi's words but Khushi was not finished, "I hope you are done with your temper tantrum because I wish to go back to fulfilling my dreams!"
After that, Arnav did not speak unless he needed to correct her. Khushi continued with her training but with relief on her face. Normally, Khushi would not have scolded Arnav like that, but her fear, that his rants would make her loose her confidence, made her interrupt Arnav and retort coldly. But still the guilt of scolding her teacher remained with her and try as she might she could not push the guilt away. She kept on being reminded that she back talked to the one person who took chance with her and was helping her gain her dream job.
It was early in the evening when Anjali passed by Khushi's room. As she passed she saw something that made her stop and backtrack. She looked into Khushi's room and watched as Khushi dressed in one of the new clothes admired herself in the mirror. Anjali's eyes widened. Getting ready? Oye hoye! But for what?
"Khushi! What are you getting ready for?"
Khushi was pulled out of her thoughts by Anjali's voice. She turned and smiled.
"You are looking gorgeous by the way!", Anjali said and Khushi's eyes lit up with happiness.
"Waise why are you getting ready? Anything special?", Anjali wondered and Khushi blushed.
Anjali raised an eyebrow. So something special it is!
Khushi shrugged, "Actually... woh... hum ... woh... I met a guy yesterday. He wants me to show him Dilli so I am going with him. That's all!"
Anjali was beyond surprised now. Khushi was going on a date? Interesting.
"You know what? Why don't I help you?", Anjali asked and Khushi nodded eagerly. Anjali joined her and started doing her hair. As Anjali worked, Khushi explained about how they planned to meet near Red Fort excitedly.
Arnav had just arrived from his work when he looked up and his breath stopped. Dressed in a new designer salwar kameez was Khushi. She looked stunning, Arnav realised. She neared him and he looked at her in wonder. Did she dress like this for me? His heart stuttered.
But Khushi passed by hollering, "I am going out. See you later!" and walked right out of the door. Aakash, who had followed Arnav, gave her a wave. She waved him back as she walked away. Arnav was stupefied. What is happening here?
"Where is Khushi going?", Aakash asked as she looked at Anjali curiously. Anjali, who had followed Khushi, smirked at him, "She is going on a date!" Arnav took in a sharp breath at her words. Aakash noticed it and smirked but Anjali remained clueless as she continued to speak, "She met a guy yesterday!"
Arnav felt his anger boiling at the thought of Khushi with a guy. Then his brain reminded him of the male friend calling her in the morning and his anger reached the boiling point.
"How dare she?", Arnav growled, "How dare she go out when she is supposed to be studying? She has no right to waste her time with us. And how can she go out with a guy who she met yesterday? Khushi has gone mad!" Arnav stormed off as Anjali frowned. Chote ko kya hua?
Aakash smirked. My guess is definitely right. Bhai is falling for Khushi!
And that's it for today folks!
Next update is on 31st December where Arnav will get more jealous!
Thank you, take care and have fun,
Kalpana
