(Black) magical viewing

The plots of most of the leading soaps on TV are flirting with the supernatural these days. Makers explain that witches, nagins and black magic always make riveting TV and ask how much longer could they have milked the saas-bahu sentiments

Superstition, black magic, occult... Our TV shows are currently thriving on these. And the audiences, too, of course love it as the ratings are through the roof.

We wonder whether the saas-bahu storyline has exhausted steam, which has led to, the makers fall back on outdated concepts like nagins, witches, shape-shifters and black magicians.

In Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Ishita is currently possessed by her husband's ex-wife's ghost, who is making her do crazy things. What was the need for the supernatural element?

Divyanka Tripathi, who plays Ishita, says, "The track is going great guns. Obviously I too was skeptical about becoming possessed. But I am really enjoying my character."

She adds, "I do not agree that the content is outdated. Magical tales and supernatural elements have always been there and people like them. We are catering to the audiences' demands. Ekta (Kapoor) always gives the audiences what they want."

And people are quite involved with the storyline. "One gentleman has been shooting hate mails stating, Shagun leave the body of Ishita or else I will stop watching the show'. Many kids are also now scared of Ishita as their parents tell them " yeh karlo varna Ishita aa jayegi. I think I am giving tough competition to even Gabber Singh," laughs Divyanka.

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein : @Divyanka_T Dazzles As A Woman Possessed

http://www.india-tvforum.com/scoopsnews/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/DT_bhoot.png

Dismay, fear, agony, anger, pain, confusion, happiness, hurt, joy, jealousy, pleasure  are not just emotions of our lives, they are phases each one of us goes through individually as we lead our lives and interpret the situations that come our way. These are a life time of phases. Some precede, some follow and some co-exist.  One would correctly assume all cannot be experienced at the same stage of life. This could be a fact in real life, however when it comes to reel life there is no end the possibilities that are made possible to occur and all of these emotions along with some more may descend on a person's life at the same time. This is what is happening in Balaji Telefilm's very popular show Yeh Hai Mohabbatien on Star Plus.

Dr. Ishita Bhalla (Divyanka Tripathi), a very sensible lady who smoothens the creases of life with patience, understanding and empathy is now someone who is no longer predictable with  these traits. No, she is not a stranger in her conduct. In fact when she is not her own familiar self, she is even more familiar or rather eerily familiar. After the suicide of Raman Bhalla's (Karan Patel) first wife Shagun (Anita Hassanandani), his present wife Ishita shows shades of herself as well as the deceased person. As day to day life unfolds, understandably multiple questions form in the minds of the Bhalla and Iyer family members with no logical or believable answers. There are questions in the minds of viewers of the show as well. Has Ishita been possessed by the spirit of Shagun ? After all there is no dearth of believes pointing out the consequences if there is a situation of untimely demise of a person. Then there  is the more logical explanation that perhaps a look alike of Shagun has been introduced and will play a role of adding fuel to this spooky tale. Ekta Kapoor's shows may show twists which may not be comprehendible in reality, however end of the tracks always chase away any scope of thoughts that may dwell in the minds with regard to superstitious believes and reveal more logical reasoning by way of plots set up by people with ulterior motives.

As everyone tries to piece this jigsaw puzzle, the person who is living through all this is blissfully unaware of the havoc she has been creating with her changing shades of personality. Ishita tries to pick up the pieces of life scattered round after witnessing the gory suicide of Shagun and is helpless as her attempt to ward it off fails. As Ishita tries to tread on this challenging road, Divyanka mesmerises everyone with the sheer power of her astonishingly make belief portrayal of such jumbled up emotions. To show shades of  the so many varied emotions at the same time could have been very chaotic to witness and also could have left the viewers in disillusionment of a track which cannot be described as logical. However the smoothness by which she sails into these array of emotions, actually add to the suspense and thrill. The fact that the creative team of the show is trying to show the spook not with the Shagun as a reformed person that she was just before her death, but with personality of Shagun of bygone years. This perhaps is being done to add some more spice to the track by showing the totally different personalities that Ishita has to portray. While the visiting ghost' seems to forget from time to time the changed equation of her life with Raman and his family, it seems delighted each time to come across the infidel Ashok Khanna(Sangram Singh) Shagun's ex love interest for whom she had ditched Raman. Although at the time of her demise Shagun had her life more sorted, the personality engulfing Ishita seems to be leading Shagun's past  life  but seems to nurture the anger and anguish of present at the time of her demise.  All this is made believable as Divyanka relives Shagun and at the same time remarkably fluidly portrays Ishita in the easy manner. Divyanka's body language, her expressions or even just the swirling of her hair instantly tell viewers whether the next scene is going to be laced with spook or confused reality. More than the dialogues or the special effects, it is the amazing enactment of this hugely talented actress that keeps the viewers glued to the screen.

Viewers are eager to see this track takes shape bit by bit with Divyanka enthralling all with her acting. The heart goes out to Ishita with every confusion, pain and agony she portrays. She makes viewers want to smile with her as she tries to smile away the troubles of her life, currently clouded with doubts. The power packed acting skill of Divyanka breathes life in all shades of the conflicting emotions she is portraying. The steely gaze of Shagun and soft tender helpless look of Ishita all are delivered flawlessly and with no trace whatsoever of awkward portrayal even for split second .Infuriated Shagun or an emotionally wrecked Ishita are all displayed is an array of power packed performances.

How the show will sort out this twisted tale of Raman Bhalla's two wives in one body, that of Ishita, is something which we will see with time. However there is no doubt that in the meantime the viewers are in for a treat of mind blowing performances of the very talented actors of the show. As the logical reasoning of the doctor is conveyed to Ishita or the superstitious solutions are sought each is soaked in by Ishita and delivered to remarkable perfection in accordance with the innumerable nuances of the character.  Currently the track is akin to  black and white chess board with two contrasting characters existing side by side. As the story inches forward it will undoubtedly be interesting to see the tryst of both the distinct shades  of Ishita and Shagun enacted brilliantly by Divyanka.
